    I have this as well as the old wooden one Cold Steel used to make. Both excellent low-profile defensive weapons.

    I bought one of these a year and a half ago after busting a toe. I used it while walking my dog to take a little weight off my foot and it worked well. It could really change someone's personality forever if it was used for self defense!

    Good talk regarding the semantics of levels of self-defense out in the public. I am 71 & have bilateral knee joint replacements that I had done at the same time. I am fully ambulatory, but there are limitations to prosthetic knee joints. Limited bend angle restrictions & quadriceps strength limitations at bend angles over 90°. I find myself carrying a walking stick more often lately in cold slippery weather. The Cold Steel line of polypropylene sticks & canes are my favorite carry items, serving double purposes of stability & defense. I have never been questioned about my choices, even the "axe head cane" which, with hand removed, definitely looks intimidating to the casual observer. I have added chair leg caps to all of my sticks & canes, which add slightly to the weight, but also add to the friction with ground contact & eliminate the wear on the end of these items & can easily be replaced due to excessive wear.

      Hey Barry, I'm sorry to hear about your knees, man I'm just 25 and I've been dealing with a busted kneecap from an accident, it sucks. I would really suggest you looking into KneesOverToes guy on youtube, I have to say that it's been really improving my quality of life, I can now bend my knees with more control and less pain, it hasn't happened overnight though, it's been a month's worth process, but at least my mindset has evolved from: I'm going to be crippled- to: I will get stronger and recover my mobility and get back to hiking.
      Really, give it a try, just the tibialis raises alone will do a whole lot of a difference to your pain and instability on your knees, heck, Ben (The trainer) even had a a knee replacement, and other 3 surgeries on his knees.
      Anyways, I hope you take a look at it, I really feel empathic about your pain and people who feel knee pain...it's not easy. Anyways God bless you.

    I like your review. I just ordered one for $30, because nunchucks & expandable steel batons are illegal.
    I'm less likely to get in trouble with a cane that says - Walking Stick - on it! lol

    Just to update, I was walking my dog one night. A guy standing in the middle of the road, screaming that my dog was gonna bite him. Chewie was doing anything, just standing there. He then pulled off his belt and HIT MY DOG!!! I wailed on him a couple of times with the walkabout, then we ran.

    I have one of these sticks and suspect that a full force blow to the head could kill and especially when their head hits a concrete surface after being ko’d

    I have considered with strike would be used in certain scenarios, and agree that the number one and overhead seems to make the most sense, with economy of motion.

    • @benmitchell5449
      @benmitchell5449  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Assault 'n Prepper , the problem with the #1 strike is that everyone uses it, and thus, everyone expectts it. Now, what may be more unexpected would be to just pop it up in an underhand strike and hit them right in the junk. :-)

    • @assaultnprepper1321
      @assaultnprepper1321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but that may take a bit more aiming. I have the African Walking Stick, but it really doesn't feel right in the handle area (just to bulbous). How is the Walkabout for using while walking?

    • @benmitchell5449
      @benmitchell5449  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assault 'n Prepper the Walkabout is pretty good stick for walking. I switch back and forth between my walkabout and my Ten Shin. I had an African Walking stick, but I lost it in a house fire

    Generally speaking polypropylene is stronger than wood with the exception that, below 32°F it can (Not will, not usually but can) shatter on impact. I like them but just something to tuck away in the back of your mind.

    From what i understand a cane needs to have a crook to count as a medical device in government buildings... axe head cane does thst nicely

    I teach CANE DO-- and have many years of hapkido cane, sword, etc.. and regular cane is actually BETTER for defense.. and yes you can carry the HOOKED cane anywhere-- but many areas the police WILL confiscate that knobby as a deadly weapon!!! As to philipno martial arts- yes- they're good- especially with a cane being LEGAL.. but be careful-= if you injure someone with the knobby- that's an ATTACK- no matter who started it, but if you do it with a hooked cane- it's DEFENSIVE!!!

      And that's why most people fighting with a cane hit their attacker on the arms and legs. A cane is a bone seeking implement. They do wonders on forearms and shins and can break them. I just ordered a fancy oak 'martial arts' cane and I'm going to learn how to spin it. And I'm going to take Hapkido classes. And now (September 2022) Midway USA has a sale on these I will be getting the CS Walkabout Stick too.

    • @YTRulesFromNM

      What is a regular cane? This is solid polypropylene and doesn't have any sharp edges.

    • @davidwayne9982
      @davidwayne9982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YTRulesFromNM Regular cane is wood- with a hook.... it's the KNOT on it that makes it classed as a weapon. It's only called a "medical device" when it's a normal wooden cane with a hook.

      Just goes to show how gay the world is now. Sure, this specific product is marketed as being a potential weapon, but those laws basically say “Your stick doesn’t have a hook!? ARREST THIS DANGEROUS MAN!!!” Extremely gay. How far gone are we that the managerial legal bureaucracy has to approve and mandate what kind of stick you can use to support your body weight?
