5 minute sermonette : The "sinners' prayer" is a seed . This seed needs to grow . Read through the parable again , Matt 13:1 - 9 and 18 - 23 . But this time , with the soil being heart of a believer . Skipping the hard packed soil. The heart is fully open to receive His Word . The other 3 descriptions apply : A) stony , B) thorny and C) good . A) Break up this ground with Bible Study and discipleship . B) Keep the weeds away : Bad influences (friends), places that tempt to sin , Books , movies , etc. Combine both A) and B) to get C) , the good soil that yields a multiple increase . Sadly , it is a rare teacher that emphasizes that both A) and B) are an ongoing , lifelong process to become closer and more like Jesus Christ .
