Paul Gonsalves felt that his ballad playing was often overlooked. He was in fact probably a better ballad player than even Ben Webster or Dexter. My opinion.
@barneylessing4781 I think Gonsalves is underrated overall. He is so modern in his phrasing and his sound is full of soul. I don't like making rankings, I don't think it is possible to compare different saxophone players big as Dexter or Ben Webster. They are just giants, including Paul Gonsalves.
