Thank you Doodlebud! Some plastics are more easily ruined by high temperatures, so I practice lately a further step of care when heating with hot water: If the build of the pen permits, I submerge only the visible part of the nib, and count on the heat conducting property of the metal. It may take one or to more passes of heating, but the content of my bottom drawer’s content of ”pens for parts” tells me a tale of caution.
You do make me smile with your comments. I follow a few pen people on the Tube and you are amongst the best. You are no good for my wallet though, because I buy so many of your reviews. One thing I have learnt from you is that never take a pen apart. Take nib units out OK, but not the filling mechanism. One particular reviewer is never happy unless he can dismantle the pen he is reviewing ( here's looking at you Doug) but it takes all sorts. Thank you again for making such entertaining and educational pieces
When I buy a new item from the store, even as an engineer, I don't take it home and start taking it apart. Its handy for some instances to be able to fully take a pen apart, but usually unnecessary. It also opens the opportunity for damage or broken parts.
Welp, time to reset the "Doodlebud Days Without An Incident" clock. I love breakdown videos of all sorts so thank you for taking one for the team 😂 I'm so damn hyped for that Fifty4T (love the name) video!
Doodlebug, you are hands-down the most EDUCATIONAL and VALUABLE fountain pen reviewer on TH-cam! …on the whole interwebs! …no, the GALAXY!! 🏆🌟🌍🪐 I’ve learned more *invaluable* things from you than any other person or source anywhere. Period. Whether on TH-cam, or Reddit, or any fountain pen source out there. 🫵🏻You, sir, are head and shoulders above the rest. I look forward to seeing your channel grow to over a million subs.❤️ PS: and you’re so funny! All this valuable content PLUS a sense of humor? Pure gold…just pure gold.
I have yet to buy one but I see the possible difficulties with dis assembly. I had he same problem with my Wing Sung / Junlai 630. It took a lot of soaking but I did manage to get it out. As for pulling the piston, I had the same problem with a couple of Hong Dian pens and the Asvine V200. It can be done with a lot of patience. Thanks for the instructional video
Appreciate your perseverance and sacrifice! The lack of an ink window on V1 has been/is rather an annoyance -- but not as much as Majohn updating the pen so soon after the first release! I'm ticked! As for pistons, they're probably my "go to" filling mechanism (for volume) but I find re-assembly is always fiddly. I'm with you -- I won't unless I really, really need to. Even greasing up the piston is something I do via toothpick after rmoving the nib assembly (when I can).
Some people...or Doug in particular. I respected how honest he was about in what state he received the first opaque V60, people after him downplaying all the clearly visible faults in the pen not so much.
About that water temperature, most plastics stay safe to round about 60°C. That's 140 for you Fahrenheit lovers... Should be enough to loosen that glue.
Hi DB! Thanks for showing what to do (and what not to do) while servicing the V60! Very useful info! Like that transparent gray, but the red sounds REALLY nice!
All stuff coming from China will increase price because of tariffs if you purchase from United States or your pobox and courrier are located there, about this pen i am not a huge fan of the triangular section or any other shape that is not circular (my liking or not is subjective) but the pen in question looks great. A seasoned nib-smith like you can easily deal with troubleshooting details on pens that for the rest of us may be a headache. Thank You sir! and sorry if my english not so good.
What you are calling a stress fracture is more likely an artifact of the casting process they are using to make these pens. Mine have them all over the pens , they are extremely shallow and don't seem to affect their durability.
So is there any hand assembly with these pens or is it all just an injection moulding process. All the stub nib versions of these demonstrators are out of stock at the moment. Brilliant idea with the hot water in terms of making it possible to change nibs. I wouldn’t be tempted to do anything at the other end.
@@Doodlebud I had a casual job once that involved assembling multi packs of plastic key tags 🏷️ and putting them in retail cardboard boxes. I can imagine putting these pens together from a tray of parts.
Off Topic - What Doodlebud video not too long ago were we shown an example sheet of French cursive letters? I'm pretty sure I saw it, but now I am doubting myself.
I don't think it is or else it would be present on all pens. I have 2 before this one and it was fine and is for many. Just some excess adhesive that trickles onto the nib unit causing the issue I think. Majohn seems to make a decent pen so I don't think they would play those games
At about 3:50 I think I see the stress crack. I think it may have been there before you started. I can't be sure because I'm on my phone right now but maybe someone else can corroborate?

I never thought I would subscribe to a channel about pens but I'm hooked and now own a Scriveiner.

Hey dude, I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time watching so many of your videos. Don’t stop making them. Thank you

I have one Im editing right now and you'll have to reset the counter again!
Helpful guide. I'm having to get better at judging temperature as I work on vintage pens.
Hahaha thanks for taking one for the team! I love these transparent ones, im hooked!
I can’t wait to try mine out, I got the exact same pen with the long blade nib. It just arrived today! Cheers, DB
Hope you like it!
I like my translucent red V60 so much, I've ordered the brown pen as well. Hoping for a blue one to be released.
I know. These are great!
I expect to see a bunch of colors
Great explanation and repair. I’m afraid of doing any work to my pens because I’m sure I would break and make a problem worse. Great work!
Most pens are pretty durable so I don;t worry too much about them breaking

Wow, that's incredibly kind of you to say! 🙏
This is a very useful video DB, and such a big help for the community at large.
I'm glad it helps
Glad we have an engineer in our corner haha!
That hot water trick also works the other way round in case a nib and feed are too difficult to get into a housing.
I love these detailed inner workings videos. Also hoping that stress fracture is only cosmetic damage. Bummer to crack a new pen.

Yup, can always add more heat if needed

Thank you very much!
Great info, thanks.
What a task bud
Jsut need to get a 100+ nibs to get at my griding!

Just like any pen there will be assembly. The main components are injection molded then all the parts need to be assembled into the final pen

@MrAndrew1953 yup, wouldn't take much for a tiny bit of glue get somewhere it shouldn't
First time ive ever seen a triangular pen lol
Anyways day 14 of saying
As always a great review!
@@VortexVoid6969 it's a fun pen!

Hmmm I don't think that was me. I did a video a while ago where a calligrapher gave me a calligraphy lesson but that's all that comes to mind
i hope the glue wasn't their way of making these throw aways after the nib deteriorates. great video, as always, sorry your pen cracked.

@Doodlebud that is great to hear. I like my majohns too.
What kind of metal nib does this pen use? I'm interested in ordering one plus some extra nibs to play around with.
@@notDYLANCOWLEY it's a majohn/mooman branded nib. Can easily buy extra nib units
@@Doodlebud do you have a link handy for a good priced one? And do they generally come with the black plastic feeds as well?
@notDYLANCOWLEY comes with nib, feed, & housing

It seems to be there indeed.
The closeup really shows the poorly made thread. Perhaps it was better before it was chromed.
You should have transplanted the gray transparent barrel onto the white pen
