    Have you ever tried this recipe? Let me know! I also found similar recipes under the name Sweet and Sour Sausages or Holiday Sausages.

    Fun recipe! I actually made a community cookbook where I used to work. We used to hold fundraisers, and one year we raised money for a local nursing home, by creating a cookbook with recipes submitted by their residents & our employees. It was a fun & rewarding project!

    So random idea. These might make some fun skews. So a small skew with pinapple, cherry, a piece of cooked susage, and a pre grilled green pepper. Thicken the sauce a little more, brush on and keep the warm in a chaving dish or some such

    Oh my goodness... the dramatic reading of the VERY DRAMATIC intro to the winter section... I'm one part scared and one part wanting to go there, drink Scotch and cozy up under a blanket, hahah! Well Tish did brilliantly, and this sounds delightful. Any excuse to break out those adorable little forks is a good one! Fantastic find Anna!

      Cohasset sounds so hazy and mysterious according to that intro. Visit Cohasset for the lonesome cry of foghorns, stay for the number of people named Tish!

    I have one of those little forks and had no idea what it was for. 😂 I love your apron. I have quite a few community cookbooks. My cookbook collection started with a church cookbook with my grandma's recipes in it.

      I almost feel like my mom or grandma had some of the little forks, too! Not sure if this was exactly their intended use, but it worked for me. 😂

    I so appreciate that you do an informational segment on each of the cookbooks you are making a recipe from so thank you for those.
    This looks so simple and yet would go over well for any party appetizer.. I wonder how it would fare in the crackpot on low for an hour or so 🤔

    • @cooking_the_books
      @cooking_the_books  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for this. It means a lot to hear that people enjoy the cookbook review/flip through part of my videos. Not everyone likes that segment, and those who don't have definitely let me know! 😂 Too bad, I have so much fun with that part, I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing. I believe this recipe would be excellent in a crockpot! I'm a huge slow cooker fan.

    What a coincidence, I went to a vintage Pyrex collectible store today. Always nice to see you . Don’t laugh, but I enjoy the 1960s party cookbooks. Have a wonderful holiday season. 🎉

      Girl I would NEVER laugh at that! They knew how to party in the 60s for sure. That Pyrex store sounds like a dream. Hope you're having a great holiday season as well!

    I love community cookbooks! Sometimes they have explanations of where the recipe came from or what celebration the dish would have been made. Have one from Cape Cod Five, the bank my SIL worked at years ago. So, I know where Cohasset is located. This these would be fun for a party served on toothpicks, with a bit of each item. Maybe no water so the sauce is thicker.

    I must admit, a lot of my early cooking experience was with community cookbooks. They definitely made me a better cook overall because they taught me to work from a range of instruction types, from very clear and detailed to very vague.

    • @cooking_the_books
      @cooking_the_books  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my gosh, the VAGUENESS sometimes! 😂 I also like it when surprise ingredients pop up in the middle of the recipes. Seriously though, this is a really good way to build one's cooking skills. There's a community cookbook from my hometown that is legendary, and has been re-printed every few years since the mid 70s.

    I’m totally making this and having it over rice. I have a couple tiny forks, but imma prolly go full-on big fork (after a few bites with a tiny fork, cuz who doesn’t love a tiny fork). I pretty much only get to use my tiny fork with pickled herring at the holidays, cuz I have some repurposed fondue forks I use for pickles and olives. 😃

    If you use the gel colors you could use red, and yellow. It takes a few hours to completely develop, but eventually it will be the bright color you're looking for.

    LOVED your "old movie" effect for the dramatic reading! Perfect! Also, are a lot of people in Cohasset named "Tish"? I don't think I've ever met one, and Cohasset seems chock-a-block with them.

    Howdy there Anna!👋 Greetings from Southern California! This appetizer looks quite tasty, as I enjoy all of the flavors included in this recipe! I hate to burst your bubble just a bit, since I can see how excited you are to use your tiny fork, but I was kinda thinking maybe this recipe would look quite appetizing and delicious on a skewer, like a shish-ka-bob maybe? You know...one piece of sausage, followed by one pineapple, one bell pepper, one cherry, etc🍒🫑🍍...What do you think? I also believe the fork is something like a cocktail fork...maybe something used for olives when you use them in a cocktail, or using them for smaller items like taking a cherry, sweet pickle, pimento, or a cherry tomato out of their jars and placing them on a party platter maybe? Also, I think they can be used for a shrimp platter and dunking the shrimp into the cocktail sauce🍤 ..just some ideas I threw out there!😁 Anyways, have a wonderful weekend, and a beautiful and blessed holiday season ahead!❄️⛄🎄🎁🎅 Thank you for all you do🙏...You are one of my favorite TH-cam channels (honest engine!🤣)...Take care! Ms. Elizabeth 😋

      Hi there!! I am missing the weather in CA after the massive storm we had here. I thought about using the forks for tiny kebabs, how cute. The shrimp would unfortunately be a no-go for me since I'm allergic, but my husband would love it. Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!
