    What’s your favorite colour name from this pastel set? 🌈 Mine might surprise you! Let me know in the comments, and share any tips or techniques you love for oil pastels. I’d love to learn from you too! 🎨✨

    I have 5 or 6 different oil pastel sets, and the Lightwish are by far my favorites. They're so buttery smooth, the colors are great and they come with 5 whites which you need a lot of. I do like having different sets though because they all have different colors (although not all colors are unique to each set) and they all work well together. Fun!

      That sounds like an amazing collection, Ruby! 😊 The Lightwish set really is fantastic-they do have such smooth, buttery textures! And having those extra whites are such a bonus-so useful for blending and layering. I love how mixing different sets brings out even more versatility in your artwork. 🎨✨ Such a fun way to explore and create! Thanks so much for watching and then sharing your thoughts-always appreciated! 💕

    Hello Sarah ! Oil pastels are now part of my sketching tool kit (12), in a small candy tin. I like to incorporate that medium into my artworks, over a watercolor wash, colored pencils and even gouache. It can be applied in different ways, on different surfaces. Yes price and quality varies but anyone can find it’s match.

      Hello Daniel! 😊 That sounds like such a brilliant setup-oil pastels in a candy tin! 🍬🎨 I love how versatile they are, and the way you combine them with watercolours, coloured pencils, and even gouache sounds amazing. Mixing mediums really brings a piece to life, doesn’t it?
      And you’re so right-there’s something out there for everyone, no matter the budget or style. Thanks so much for sharing your process-it’s so inspiring! 💕 And thank you for watching and taking the time to comment-it’s always appreciated! ✨

    I got some Artecho oil pastels for Christmas, which I’m looking forward to using once the weather warms up a bit. Silicone colour shapers are supposed to be good for blending, also.

      That sounds amazing, Julie! 🎄✨ Artecho oil pastels are such a fun gift-I hope you love using them once it warms up (creating in the sunshine feels extra inspiring, doesn’t it? ☀️). And yes, silicone colour shapers are brilliant for blending-less mess, more magic! 🎨💫 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your pastel plans-I really appreciate it! 💕

    very cool about Picasso! I've always wanted some but have not tried them. I need to find out how to buy art supplies here in Portugal where I just moved. Has to be from an EU country to avoid customs which is a bummer since I'm from US and used to buying there. thanks so much for the good info. loved watching the colors on the swatches.

      There are great art shops all over Europe. Germany has a company called Peter’s, I think, which many artists use. France has Sennelier of course and Henri Roche soft pastels and I know Portugal has art shops but I don't know the names, I'm sorry. Italy is the home of A Gallo. Have fun!

      Thank you, Suzanne! 😊 Moving to Portugal sounds like such an adventure-what a beautiful place to be! 🌍 I can imagine it’s a bit tricky figuring out where to get art supplies, but I’m sure you’ll discover some hidden gems in the EU soon. 🎨 Yeah knowing about the Picasso info (and art) makes it extra fun to use!
      I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and the swatches-I had so much fun with the colours too. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts-it’s so appreciated! 💕✨ Good luck settling into your new home! 🏡✈️

    Thank you for a fantastic video and demo, your painting is fabulous!
    I am very new to oil pastels, but so far I like them. Especially, immediacy of colour that they give. And that it's possible to put lighter colours on top of darker ones. Not entirely sure, how one supposed to start a painting with them, so far I tried dark to light, and in most cases, to my utter disbelief, it worked!
    Duck milk yellow has to be the winner of the best name award from me, I wouldn't be able to come up with something like that in my life! The author of that name must be a character like Willy Wonka and no mistake! 👍

      Ellen, thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🥰 It’s wonderful to hear you’re diving into the colourful world of oil pastels-aren’t they just magical? ✨ I couldn’t agree more about the immediacy of colour and the joy of layering light over dark-it’s like breaking the rules and getting away with it! 😄
      And oh my gosh, *Duck Milk Yellow*! 😂 Isn’t it just the quirkiest name? I had the same thought-it must’ve come from someone with a serious Willy Wonka-level imagination. 🍭🎨 They deserve an award for that one!
      I’m so happy you enjoyed the video and demo-thank you for watching and for taking the time to share your thoughts. Can’t wait to hear more about your pastel adventures! 💛🖌️

    A medium I have never used. Never fully understood what they were for or how they fitted in with wax based pencils or even crayons. Will have to explore them a bit more. I like the duck milk something or other for colour names (if I heard correctly 😊). My little art space is now fully cleared. I thought it had just become a junk room but by the time I had finished, it was more like clearing a landfill site 😂😂😂

    • @sarahclementsart

      Hey Graham! 😊 Oh, oil pastels are such a fun mystery to unravel-they're kind of like the wild, unpredictable cousin of wax-based pencils and crayons. Definitely worth exploring if you’re up for some colourful chaos! 🎨✨ And yes, you heard right-Duck Milk yellow! 😂 I'm quite fond of Taro Purple. Who comes up with these names?! (Not complaining, though-love the whimsy!)
      Congrats on reclaiming your art space! Sounds like a heroic effort-landfill to masterpiece central! 😂👏 Thank you so much for watching and sharing your journey-I love hearing how its all going! 💛

    These pastels look fab, want to try. How do you get finer detail with a chunky crayon ( like the eye you did). X

    • @sarahclementsart
      @sarahclementsart  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Diane! 😊 I’m so glad you’re interested in trying the pastels-they really are a lot of fun! 🎨 To get finer details I usually use the edge of the pastel rather than the flat side, or if you want even more precision use a brush and some oil paint medium (any medium will do, even mineral spirits) or try pencil on top. For the eye, I started with lighter layers and then built up the darkest areas last. Hope this is of some help. 😄
      Thanks so much for your question-and for watching! It’s always appreciated. 💕✨

    What do you use to fix the pastels so they don't transfer to the previous page?

      @sarahclementsart  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Thank you so much, @veystone2580! 😊 I’m so glad you found the video helpful-that means a lot! 💕 For fixing oil pastels, I usually recommend a spray fixative made specifically for oil pastels something like this one amzn.to/3Px1yAP helps minimise the smudging and keeps your colours safe! 🎨✨ Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment-its so appreciated! 😄

    I have 2 boxes of oil pastels and never used them, kept feeling that would smudge and rub off in my sketchbook.
    How long do they take to dry? Are they like oil paint?

    • @sarahclementsart
      @sarahclementsart  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Gary! 😊 It’s great that you have the oil pastels ready to try out! They don’t actually dry like oil paints do. Oil pastels stay workable for a while, so they won’t "dry" completely, but they do set and harden over time. They can smudge a bit, but you can avoid that by using fixatives like this one amzn.to/4hco7X4 or simply working on paper that's a bit heavier or textured. If you’re worried about smudging in your sketchbook, you could also consider using a protective layer between pages (baking paper or brown paper will do).
      Thanks so much for your question and for watching! It’s really appreciated. 💖

    Very pretty pictures, but I did not like the colour selection of the set. It looks van Gogh'y, and when colours mix together, they do not look pigmented anymore.

    • @sarahclementsart
      @sarahclementsart  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts, @be666chan! 😊 I totally get what you mean-the colour selection does have that moody Van Gogh vibe. 🎨 And yes, some oil pastels that are true (Ultramarine for example) aren't mixed with opaque colours or white will always be less pigmented. I have experienced this across the expensive ranges to. Maybe they just need a bit of coaxing to behave! 😅 I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment-it means a lot! 💕
