    Recent trip to a local museum, looking at canvas webbing and pouches made me consider painting space marine equipment something other than black or brown for the first time. Could make for a more visually interesting contrast to whatever colour the chosen armour is. Great work, looking forward to more Badab schemes.

      Cheers Fransaacs, very much appreciated! :) I used to do them an olive drab colour like the old UK military webbing, but moved onto the brown leather effect for a bit of a change! haha That's the thing, there's so many different ways you could paint them to look great. :)

    I like how you've protected his shoulder pad with an extra shield. I've always thought those huge, thick shoulder pads were an obvious weakpoint that needed extra protection. ;)
    Great scheme btw!

      Don't worry, the shields are heraldic and not there for extra protection! haha :)

    I honestly have NEVER seen a Fire Hawks chapter anywhere at gaming events. So cool to see such a wonderful, early WH40k Astartes Chapter brought back into the fold. Seeing most chapters now going all Primaris just makes me yearn more for the old, traditional chapters more. I saw your tutorial on painting the icon for the Fire Hawks and loved it, as you make it so possible to do something that could be done easier with a decal, that myself and most of my fellow painting service friends are now following your videos religiously, picking up new tips and inspiration every time we see one :-) I'm seriously thinking of starting a traditional Chapter of Astartes myself, as I've just been given a huge collection of Scout sprues as payment for painting a club's Necromundan gangs for them, so maybe the Fire Hawks could be my choice, after seeing your latest videos. I didn't know the Fire Hawks had become the Legion Of The Damned. I just read that the LOTD were originally an Ultramarines successor Chapter. Must read the Badab War books now :-)

      Cheers Paul, very much appreciated! Yeah, the Fire Hawks were lost in the warp and they reckon eventually popped out as the Legion of the Damned. It’s worth having a mooch on the 40k wikia at them, really good chapter info there! :)

    Amazing video! This may be your best one yet. Love the color scheme of this chapter, it feels more optimistic and cheerful. Also nice flame details on the knee and shin. Thank you for sharing it with us :)

    Great work! I’m tempted to try this red scheme for my blood ravens - (I like the dawn of war style colour over the Khorne red scheme). Can you remember how much Squig orange you used with the Mephiston red to create the armour highlight?

    Great video again thank you! I was just wondering when you use the coloured sprays in your videos (leadbelcher, mephiston red etc) these work well as a primer right? I'm sure they do, only I thought I'd ask as there seems to be so much ambiguity in regards to this, some people like to spray on chaos black/corax white first as they are worried about the paint not fully adhering but I understand that the coloured sprays still include primer elements anyway. Also I noticed the warhammer guys use the coloured sprays in their videos too but good to get another view from a great painter such as yourself, cheers!

      Yeah, they're fine as a primer and base/undercoat. I tend to use them for that for everything and haven't ever had an issue. All the minis I've used have either been sprayed with black primer to begin with, or a coloured spray directly onto the plastic. The only things I've had problems with paint adhering to is resin and that's usually down to me not washing it properly! haha :)
      I've never washed a plastic sprue, and never sprayed an undercoat/primer before using a Citadel (or Army Painter) spray (unless I've sprayed it one colour, and change my mind and have sprayed it another, but that's just to change colour, not because of necessity). :)

    amazing work, one question, why use the chrome for the base metal in place of say led belcher? im using a lot more of the Nuln Oil Gloss because of the effects from one of your videos, so ... what i'm asking for is a video similar to yours where you shaded gold, maybe show us your wisdom in how to choose the metal base; ie: silver, metal, ledbelcher, chorme... why you chose the one you do

    • @BrushandBoltgun
      @BrushandBoltgun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Colin, very much appreciated! :) It tends to be down to how I've thought about the army. If I want them dark and moody (like chaos) I'll use leadbelcher, if they're imperial, it tends to be a lighter colour to make them look a bit pristine. Would a vid on different shades on metallics, or TMMs be useful?

    Ah yes the Douche Marines 😏 (and that says a lot considering most space Marine chapters)
