just found your channel after buying and planting my first set of Valisneria, before now I just had java fern which I've accidentally grown a fair amount of since buying the original plant a year ago. Channel is great, presentation style is great, videos are enjoyable to watch, liked and subscribed = )
i got a small piece hitch hiked with some other plant ,it' s a weed grows like crazy now i have it in 6 tanks i have to throw away bunches. It's great for breeding tanks. wish my local fish stores would buy some.
Apparently it is Süßwassertang or Süsswassertang in the original German name and there isn't a 'b' sound. Somebody pointed it out to me on FB or I wouldn't have known either. It looks like a macro algae which is what a lot of seaweeds are as well.
I did actually know that but since it's more well known as it's American pronunciation and spelling I decided to let that go. It's always a balance of getting information out there that's helpful without going into more detail then the viewer wants. In addition to the "ss" sound and not the "b" it also should end with a "tong" sound instead of a "tang" sound so the full correct pronunciation would be susswassertong.
Good info but just FWIW it’s not an unusual name, it’s just German - and in German, it’s pronounced suss, not sub. The German alphabet has a capital B looking thing which is a direct replacement for ss. So they’ll spell it SuBwassertang, but the B is pronounced ss. They actually dont even say “freshwater.” They say either saltwater or sweetwater. So its Suss = sweet Wasser= water Tang = seaweed 😊✌️👌👍
@@IansFishRoom Or maybe just sneak it into another vid next time it’s mentioned? Not a big deal really, I mainly just commented to feed the algorithm. Anyway, thanks again for doing this channel. 🙂
You are absolutely correct...but...most people in the USA (my majority audience) don't know that and look for it spelled with a b. I could have gotten into that subject but it wasn't the purpose of the video.
@@IansFishRoom Yeah sorry, I am an American but know how German works. I just ran across this word as I've been researching aquarium plants. I haven't seen other German words with "ß" picked up this way, but that's language for you!
Wonderful stuff. Thanks to its relatively slow growth, ease of care, and unique look, stores will pay decent money for your trimmings too.
I haven't tried selling any but I'm sure if you found the right LFS they would love to have it.

I'm surprised more fish stores don't carry it
Thank you for your prompt response. My local stores DO NOT carry it. :-(. I'll check your suggestion. Thank You again.
You're welcome! Hopefully you find some soon.
who can i buy subwassertang from??? LOVE the video!
There are quite a few online retailers but I'd start with your local fish store. If you can't get it locally I know flip aquatics sells it.
I hope it likes tropical weather, my tanks and fish deal with 30C all year.
They gave me some free Subwassertang with my Shrimp.
My guess is it won't like going above 80.
@Ians Fish Room oh well it was free 😆. These tropical fish aren't very tropical either.
The shrimp don't mind 86F
Subwassertang and guppy grass makes a good shrimp tank👍
Agreed!

@@IansFishRoom it's pronounced "sysswassertang"
It seems to be susceptible to green hair algae. Solutions?
Less light or amano shrimp. You can also increase water change schedule unless you water is heavy in iron.
OK, thanks!
Very cool.
Thanks for watching! Hope you've subscribed!
👍👍😊😊
Thanks for watching/commenting!

I did actually know all that but went with the American pronunciation since that's how most people pronounce and spell it.

@@meminustherandomgooglenumbers maybe I'll redo the video with some educational info in it.

@meminustherandomgooglenumbers I definitely appreciate any comments I get so thank you!
That's not a "b". Sußwassertang. It's a double "s" so "susswassertang" is the way to spell it without the special character.

Subwassertang literally translates to Freshwaterseaweed
Just use the English word, stop punishing your selves lol
May have to consider that.
