  • Can it lift one of my heaviest MOCs ever? I put it to the ultimate test. Beast mode. Over-engineered this 60324 mobile crane. Taller. stronger. Watch it try to lift a lego city excavator MOC, a lego coach bus MOC, a lego express train car MOC and the finally...see if it can lift an entire lego 8-wide train engine MOC

I intended to mention in the video but forgot:
    1. Thanks to the Lego designer for using flame yellowish orange! I needed that crane boom in the flame yellowish orange for my CargoMaster Crane modern day remake (watch that video and you'll hear me mention it)! He read my mind! 😆 and I definitely prefer flame yellowish orange over the standard yellow! 👍👍👍
    2. When this crane was first unveiled I immediately thought this was a homage to the #1489 Mobile Car Crane set from 1989!
    3. Lego designer, excellent job on the reinforcing the outrigger sliding channels using the top and bottom angle brackets!

Individually, you've done an excellent job of upgrading every component. I'm especially impressed by the increased boom length, lifting capacity, and extra storage space. However, the end result doesn't look as nice to me as the original. Of course, this is just my personal opinion on aesthetics, but I think it's too bulky and not streamlined enough. Still, well done!

Good murning, I love this new Mobile Crane of yours! It's really compact yet has a strong sturdy look to it.
It's yet another great example of why your channel is so great: the MOCs are amazing, the lore is meticulous, but most of all we get to learn from the real world and you put your designs to the ultimate tests!
Thanks again for sharing one of your impressive creations.

It may be conventional now...but knowing myself, this is just an intermediate step and it will get upgraded in 12 months 😂
I did mention I made upgrades to my train in one of my previous community post! There will be a video eventually, likely right after my videos on the Boutique Hotel expansion coming up!
What exactly caught your eye regarding the changes to the train? 😆

@@TealBricksinParadisa that your making a complete walk through train....and the slopes on Bothe the cab and train made me think that 😂😂😂😂 also you updated the sides and couler due to the suggestions I gues 😂😂
It's nice to see how quick you evolve....
      Reminds me of myself....
I can be stagnant ans look at a model for ages then when I've got inspiration again change a lot and so it evolves and don't know the way you build reflects more on how I do I guess...
I Watsh a lot of Lego builders and they all are different but don't know I feel a kinship in the way you design and in your eingenering.....
I also like the whole way you present your Citty / utopia that also hits my philosophy in life and what I tried to do in my previous job as a structural cad designer getting the whole aspect that greener can be better and beautiful and also be profitable.....etc
And yes I've been working on my own crane for some time now and it has sat stil for some months and now I made more progress solving problems I see you do as well although I'm more of I make what Lego never did or Wil do or true and recreate a real / fictional vehicle 1 on 1
Same as this my crane is an ode to set 6361 and actually one of the alternate builds on the back but one Lego Wil never make as it's to fragile for kids ...
And a folding tower crane has never been done yet and I love the eingenering that goes into them to make them transform etc ...
It's those puzzles that wrack my brain like the escalator did with you.....
And I notice it every time and is very pleasurable to see ....
Sorry for the long late reply
      Have fun building 😉

@@xfilethe Haha yes, I developed the trains for walk-through now. You are right about the slopes. I will it unveil it when I make another video for the train.
The changes to the side color pattern were already created before I received comments and are not based on anyone's suggestions. No offense to anyone, I dismissed suggestions about changing the side color pattern. Firstly, I already had my own personal version (with the teal and green) that I liked already done beforehand. Secondly, and unfortunately, some people missed (or didnt understand) my explanation & reasons in the video for why I made the version of the train with the green arrow extended down to the front: it is not for me: It is for the people who want the instructions who have already bought the trains and they want to save money of buying extra pieces. I suspect you missed that explanation too..haha
Its funny, some of my evolving designs occur almost immediately after I film the videos for them. Making videos and having to explain why I did things a certain way often pushes my ideas even further than my original intent. Yes, we are similar in that regard! I'm always having new ideas about finished creations and I end up updating them. Almost all the creations I made last year already have significant updates!
I'm happy to know you are a fellow engineer and that you can relate and appreciate the engineering thought processes that apply to my creations! The escalator definitely wracked my brain and took me a loooooong time to get it good enough! I'm thrilled that you enjoy that experience as well!
And I'm especially happy that you appreciate, understand and also try to apply concepts for a more green, more naturally beautiful, more efficiency-- design philosophy!! 😃😃🌿🌿
I'm intrigued by your folding crane creation and hopefully someday I will get to see the end result!
Thank you for the thoughtful comment! 😃

This is a good remake of a somewhat lacking set,but it kinda lacks in realism at certain parts such as,the crane base being too thick, when you look at mobile cranes, even the biggest ones that are far bigger then this one,you will see that the body of the turret is actually kinda thin with the counterweights on the back sticking out sideways, but then again this is a universe where stuff they said would happen in 2016 actually happened

    • @TealBricksinParadisa
      @TealBricksinParadisa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sure, the turret is chunky, and for good reason.
First, my intent wasn't about replicating realism, nor did I say so in my vid. In fact I didn't do any research of real life mobile cranes, whatsoever. My intent was to take the status quo (the original set) and enhance it. The primary focus was simply to get it taller and more lifting power than my cargomaster crane moc (since is would be weird if the cargomaster was taller and stronger than this crane). Ignoring my creative intent is like criticizing a streetside kabab vendor that they aren't michelin star restaurant quality or critiquing Vincent Van Gough that his paintings don't look as real as photographs haha 😂
Creating vehicles and buildings out of lego at the minifigure scale is always going to be a losing battle if you want full realism. Why are apples the size of basketballs? why are the buildings too small? why can't we have doors and sunroof's on cars? Why is a truck tire as tall as the minifigure's chin? where are the bathrooms? Why is a can of soda the size of a jug of milk? why can't we have seats on both sides of the aisle of a bus or tram or train? why can't this dinner plate fit into a lego cabinet? Why do the outriggers stick out of the side of the crane truck instead of tucking in flush? Lego hasn't ever made a flatbed rollback towtruck that a car can realistically drive up onto.
The limitations of scale, limited lego piece versatility and cost is what forces us to make these unrealistic compromises. We already have to bend so many rules of reality for the minifigure universe, the chunky turret is the least of of them, I think.
There's always going to be that tug-o-war struggle between aesthetics, functionality, scale and realism. I think considering the mods I made, I've done well to strike the best balance based on my priorities. My main focus was primarily functionality and I'm beyond stoked at how much this crane can lift! Consider the purpose in real life of cranes and all other industrial equipment: they are strictly tools to perform a job. In real life, crane customers primary goal is have a crane that can do the job they need at the most efficient cost. They don't care all that much for if the turret looks chunky or not.
The turret is chunky cause I built it to lift which is what cranes are all about: I embedded two lego weights into the turret. Lego weights take up space. a lego weight (mass/volume) isn't as compact as a weight on a crane. Each lego weight takes up 2x6x2 of brick volume. The other 3 primary components are in as compact of a formation as possible. the winch sits just above the weights, the boom pivot point is just enough to clear the winch and the linear actuator pivot point is in the right position to lift the boom. The boom can't be moved up in position cause I need it to clear my road tunnels. the turret extends more forward to prevent it from shearing off the turntable plate.
If I want a more compact turret I would have to either: really raise the bar of build technique (go more technic based) ....or ditch the embedded weights completely.
I have since taken a look at the Leibherr LTM 1050. And I've also looked at Leibherr's bigger cranes with more axles and when you look at the volume of the turrent + the volume of the weights, in total it's about a similar volume as the turret I made. Difference being that my crane's weights are visibly hidden inside (not considering the extraneous weights I added as external additions) making the turret look like one huge volume ...and that the real life cranes (Leibherr LTM 1110) there is a clear visual separation of the weights and the turret making them look like two separate entities.
That said, I have no doubt I'll upgrade this crane sometime in the future. I've already gone on a rampage these last 6 months and upgraded most of my industrial vehicle mocs that I made over the last two years and they are even better than ever!
