    Lost in this conversation is that Ollie Gordon isn't even of legal drinking age. Then we put the DUI on top of that. Then his coach is tripping over himself to minimize the seriousness of the offense by incriminating himself. Then OK State fans are eating it all up. What are we doing here?

    Mike Gundy recently said he had probably driven 1,000 times while under the influence of alcohol. That’s a great thing to admit to doing.
    You got lucky? Coach, the people who got out lucky were the people who were not struck by your vehicle, while you were under the influence of alcohol.
    I imagine Gundy was exaggerating just to support his player who was arrested for driving under the influence.
    Wouldn’t it have been better just to say that his running back should have used better judgement? That he made a mistake and hopefully will learn from his mistake? And then announced (at least) a one-game suspension for his young ball player?

    Hard to tell what's sarcasm and what isn't with Gundy, but he's been that way since day one. I wouldn't take this too seriously as an OSU administrator. I'd be more concerned about how it gets handled behind the scenes.

    • @UhHuh-yr5hy
      @UhHuh-yr5hy 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agree this is sarcastic. I think the concern from administration is that admitting to a crime committed repeatedly is not a great way to handle this situation. It’s in the same vein of another head coach who dismissed sexual assault allegations by saying “it’s never been more popular for women to falsely claim assault”.
      I’m sure that was sarcastic too.

    Ollie Gordon should be on suspension until further notice and should be sweating the consequences of his decision that night!!! But here's the problem these athletes are going to get free passes until there's some kind of contract or rule that would prevent an athlete from just transferring. Mike Gundy has handled this situation very poorly no doubt. But I do believe his hands are tied if he punishes Ollie like he should, Ollie will hit the transfer portal and go elsewhere. The sad thing is if he did hit the portal he would probably get a NIL deal making more money for another program??? It was handled wrong yes. But handled properly he would get a pay raise and still not be held accountable?!?!?!?!?

    I like Gundy’s decisions. Having a couple beers and driving has been done by millions of people and it’s not looked down upon. And to be clear, Gundy never said he drove drunk. He said he’s driven after a couple beers, but implied his blood alcohol level was below legal limit.
    It makes total sense to me that you don’t expect your athletes to carry breathalyzers with them everywhere. if he was at 1.6, then yes, Ollie would have a major issue.

    • @sarahmccoy1941

      Please explain to the millions of Americans, who have lost someone at the hands of a drunk driver in a vehicular accident, that having a couple of beers and then driving is not looked down upon.
      There is such a thing as a designated driver. Ever hear of that?
      There is NO EXCUSE for anyone driving while until the influence of alcohol, whether it be one beer or a dozen beers!

      @@sarahmccoy1941lost a friend a few months back to a drunk driver whom slammed into him at a red light while he was on a bike. It happens, and people don’t think that it will happen to them. The state that I live in has a not a drop policy, for those under 21. I know that it isn’t the case in Oklahoma, but he was administered a breathalyzer at the jail, not on the street, so that could’ve been hours later after he’d sobered up a bit. Just dumb decisions on his part when you’re a D1 star.

      @@sarahmccoy1941 stay logical, or at least try. deaths from drunk driver related incidents are just over 10,000 per year and majority are the drunk driver themselves. Most of those 5,000 innocent deaths are by someone well over 1.0 BAC, so now we're somewhere around 2,500 per year. Way too many, but way way less than people dying from auto accidents just because someone is a bad driver (i.e. texting or drowsy).
      So Saint Sarah, tell me you've never ever texted or were tired while driving, because you would then be a much bigger villain than someone driving after 2 or 3 beers.
