Agreed. The Beatles music was based on folk, early rock & roll, soul music, ballads, the blues, stage music, Dylan lyrics, with later added complex orchestrations and electronic sounds. There were only a few hard rock, heavy metal Beatles songs in the White Album.
Led Zeppelin is rooted in the hard rock blues blended with the heavy sound from Cream and Hendrix which also had long guitar solos that were moving into jazz. What immediately set Led Zeppelin apart was Robert Plant’s very high vocal singing which gave the band a unique sound. Multiple heavy metal bands would copy those high vocals.
From there Led Zeppelin moved towards the direction of the Beatles adding more ballad sections, acoustic playing and more toned down vocals in a more folk style.

Both bands achieved enormous success, however, I have to agree with both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in that both bands are entirely different 'entities." But, if you look back at Led Zeppelin's September 17,1970 interview in New York (I believe) Jimmy was asked a question by a member of the American press, what he thinks of the Beatles and if he respects their music, he said: "I think they're great", and said in a manner of speaking 'it's what you prefer (musically) us or them', he is telling us it's which music do you prefer (the public) and he is right. Led Zep always respected the Beatles and vice a versa. This press conference took place literally like less than a month before Led Zeppelin III was released.

From an article in Far Out:
Ex-Beatles guitarist George Harrison was in attendance at the show, and he was blown away by what he saw and heard during the three-hour show. Afterwards, the party became one of the most notorious instances of hedonistic abandon in the history of Led Zeppelin. It was written in a news report at the time that the band was in “rare destructive form” and madness ensued, including ‘The Quiet One’, Harrison throwing a chunk of birthday cake at the birthday boy.
Regardless of the antics, Led Zeppelin had left an indelible musical mark on George Harrison. “Fuck me!” he allegedly said backstage. “With the Beatles, we were on for 25 minutes and could get off in 15.”

I also feel the Rolling Stones have been massively successful and are in a league of their own withall 3 groups breaking ground in different directions in different ways with different styles. Two amazingly talented and influential bands. The Beatles did it first, writing in many genres and being responsible for taking pop music into the more serious realm of compositional music, ala Sgt Pepper. The major difference between the two bands was Zep's improvisational and musical skills. Each member of Zep excelled at their instruments. As Ringo said, the Beatles were more traditional and didn't go for all that "flair." That being said, the bands are certainly neck and neck for significance and influence in the rock genre.

One thing that's true here is the Beatles were more about image and Zep was more about music. The Beatles were more of a pop band while Zep was a true rock band and the 2 had completely different types of music. For musical talent, Led Zep was superior to the Beatles and Ringo knocking Bonhams drumming is a joke as Ringo was an average ordinary and relatively unexciting drummer while Bonhams drumming was a lot more technically advanced. In any event, it all boils down to what you like. Some liked both bands just the same while others liked one or the other better.

I was devastated when they split in 1970 because in addition to being a band, they were close friends.
I think the beginning of the end for them was in August 1967 when their manager,Brian Epstein died of a heroin overdose.

It is stupid to compare these two bands against each other let alone include the Rolling Stones in on this too. What we are really doing is turning music into sports contest [a Neanderthal approach to music]. They are all different bands, different genres and levels. Like comparing Mozart to Beethoven to Tchaikovsky to Gershwin to Duke Ellington to Miles Davis to Motown. if you don't know any of these composers or genres I mentioned you are musically ignorant. But it is not your fault...Thank you America for cutting music programs in school s first over everything else. You'll never see a weed growing in a football stadium. Music is an art, not a competition. We are also comparing musical preference with no analytical ground rules. From a retired music teacher.

Typical, appallingly researched statements regarding The Beatles. "The Beatles rarely performed live?"!!!
In their first 4 years of fame (1962 - 1966), they did approximately 300 live shows per year, plus radio series, 2 albums and 4 singles (per year!).
And, as producer Glyn Johns (who engineered a couple of Zeppelin albums, and whose brother, Andy, produced several Zeppelin albums) said, when he first played George, Mick Jagger and Pete Townsend the first Zeppelin album, they all hated it.
Should I go on? Because I could. Get your facts right.
