    With Dodgers marketing, he'll make millions just on endorsements. so I don't think money will be a factor.

      He's make more $$$ endorsement-wise in New York City. He'd be 3rd place in Japanese endorsements in Los Angeles.

    Unless there is some reason to believe he could become a Met, why is this being discussed? I simply see NO avenue for the Mets on this one. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is just a case in which circumstances dictate that Uncle Steve cannot outbid other teams. How could any of us think he might be a Met?

      Mets need to focus on pitching and stop overpaying for 1 player. The Dodgers right now are power house in the NL and in all of baseball. Unless the Mets build depth in the rotation with Aces, they ain't getting over the hump.

    Guys been a Met fan since 1967. I hate to break the news to you but he’s not going to the Mets. I’m not saying I don’t want to and I don’t know how you’re gonna spin it cause I haven’t heard it yet but you may as well pencil him in with the Dodgers. As it stands right now, the Mexico only get him $300,000 cause they’ve already spent all their money for international players. They could offer more in January but that’s about it.

  • @MeanwhileinSyracuseNy

    I don't think Roki Sasaki is necessarily giving up nearly as much money as it may seem by coming to the major leagues now, instead of 2 years from now, and that could be very good for the Mets. I think I read somewhere that Shohei Ohtani, despite the insane contract he signed with the Dodgers, actually made more money from endorsements than he got from the Dodgers. As I understand it, the Japanese public closely follow Japanese players in the major leagues. The earlier Sasaki starts pitching in the U.S., the earlier he starts making insane endorsement money. Assuming I'm correct about all that, would it make more sense for Sasaki to sign with the Dodgers, another West Coast team, or a New York City team? If he signs with the Dodgers, he'd be the third Japanese player on the team. He might be able to make more money in endorsements playing for the Yankees because of how prestigious the Yankee team is. Playing for any West Coast team probably makes it easier for people in Japan to follow his career more closely. Obviously, neither of the last two things helps the Mets.
    What is the best case for Sasaki to sign with the Mets. First, NYC is the largest media market in the world. Second, Kodai Senga is already playing for the Mets, so he will have a fellow countryman on the team. The Mets have experience transitioning a Japanese player to the American game. The Mets have their pitching lab as a selling point. The Mets have already been considering going with a 6-man rotation, something that would help with his transition.
    Finally, the Mets are poised to become a sustained winning team for a very long time. The Mets made it to the NLCS in a year when they weren't even all in. They have the richest owner in the sport, an owner willing to spend what it takes to field a winning team. Right now, the Mets are probably the favorite to sign Juan Soto. If they do sign him, that has to help make the Mets more attractive. Playing for a winning team in NYC could make lots of endorsements available. When he does reach free agency if he enjoys playing for the Mets, he can count on Steve Cohen matching any offer he gets. If he'd rather play most of his games three hours earlier, he could move to the West Coast then.
    Obviously, Steve Cohen and David Stearns will have all kinds of neatly printed binders and things, but I think that is probably many, if not most, of the points they will raise with Sasaki and his agent. Did I miss something? Was I wrong about anything? I am cautiously optimistic.

    Here’s a question - you know how teams buy out a players control and arbitration years? You control the player and don’t have to pay him more. But it doesn’t mean you can’t. I see lots of guys sign 100 million deals to buy out those arb years. Couldn’t we just wink at him and do one of those deals? Yes he only gets the 7.5 mill bonus pool but sign him to a big deal buying out those years once he is here?

      @Tony-q8r หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Dodgers will pay him under a million dollars for the next 2 years and they'll pay cheap arbitration for 4 years after that for him 😊 so total the Dodgers will have him for 6 years for 🥜's
