i remember being taught something from my painting teacher: be absolutely careful disposing of oil. it can catch fire if it’s exposed to extreme heat and sun. i’m guessing that’s the case for the burnt trash bin anyway. the best advice she gave was to keep the oil sealed off so it won’t burn any air, probably in a plastic bag (not a transparent one), and keep it out of the sun. it’s how my work’s prevented grease fires when we had to throw it out.
I work on a printing press. Oils (lubricant and the ink itself is veggie oil based), grease, dirty rags, strong cleaner. The trash can beside it is metal with a tight fitting lid, only one in the whole building.
A few anecdotes of my own, both involving birthdays and fire, funnily enough: My sister was planning on taking my mom to a new restaurant for her birthday this year, and it burned down beyond repair before she could On my own birthday this year, some a-hole contractor guy chucked a still-lit cigarette butt into a nearby dumpster, and caught that on fire. Fortunately, the dumpster was across the parking lot and away from cars when it happened. Nothing says Happy Birthday like a literal dumpster fire.

5:17 gardening enjoyer here. At no point would those vegetables be perfectly cooked, as they grow beneath the surface. They would have barely cooked at all, the reason why they’re ruined is because the leaves on the top would be destroyed, preventing them from absorbing the necessary sunlight to grow. The roots would likely be fine, same with the vegetable itself, they are just not grown enough to be eaten. Also, that would be a lot of ash. A small amount of ash _is_ good for the soil and plant growth as it acts as a good fertiliser, that’s why dormant volcanoes are always really good areas for growing crops, but large amounts of ash can do more harm than good- as it poisons the plants.
