    Calypso (her name means "to cover", "to hide" or "to deceive") was a well-known Nymph in ancient Greek mythology, who lived on the island of Ogygia, where she held Odysseus for seven years, preventing him from returning to his homeland .So the beach got the name Calypso because it is in a well hidden location.

      It is extremely well hidden! We really enjoyed it there -- exploring the south side of the island is magical!

    Did you take the boat from Chania harbour? And how much did you pay? I am going next month and the prebooked boat trips seem sooo expensive!

    • @KathrinZenkinaOfficial
      @KathrinZenkinaOfficial  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes from Chania! I haven’t been there in the last two years, so I can’t speak to the prices and inflation. I think generally private yacht charters aren’t cheap - they are a premium experience. But our price felt like a great value relative to other places I’ve taken boats in the world. My husband loves being on the water in the Mediterranean so we just have to charter. This company has been great. Shoot them an email and ask for their rock bottom rate on their least busy day. Hope it works out for you! 🥰🙏🏻💕

    Love this heading to Crete, would you recommend domes hotel? Also what rental company did you use and what boat excursion did you use?

    • @KathrinZenkinaOfficial
      @KathrinZenkinaOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We loved the Domes Zeen hotel! It was lovely!
      Rental company was a weird deal 😂 litterally told us when they dropped the car at our hotel, that they had taken it on the few that morning from Athens, 😂😂. But in retrospect, I would definitely get something bigger than a sports car for Crete. Especially if you want to explore the island.
      For the boat, we used this company! And negotiated a little 😉 www.cretaluxurycruises.gr

    • @KathrinZenkinaOfficial

      Yes Nikki! That was Balos Lagoon! The boat was amazing, I absolutely would recommend doing it! The nicest part was the beach there is SOOOO busy. But because we had a boat, we left everything there except iPhone (and vlog camera, cause we’re crazy 😂) and swam to shore! Also, there’s a shipwreck across from Balos that was really cool to snorkel in as well!

      Hi A&J! Congrats on moving there! It is an UNBELIEVABLE gem of an island -- although its enormous, I feel it may be deeply underrated. And seeing as your moving there, clearly you agree! :) We loved it! We stayed at the Domes Zeen - domesresorts.com/domeszeenchania/
      While most of our time was spent exploring -- we really enjoyed the food and unwinding at the resort. Close to everything, but out of the way enough to be peaceful and quiet as well! :)

    Two questions. I saw your mosquito bites are mosquitos everywhere, are they bad? And you say prepare to sweat but I read it only gets to the 80’s as a high temperature… is that right?

    • @KathrinZenkinaOfficial
      @KathrinZenkinaOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mosquitos weren’t horrible! But they are there. As for temp, it definitely depends on the time of year. For us, it was 95-105 with massive humidity. That was atypical for Crete (from my understanding). But I would definitely be prepared for some strong humidity in the Chania area. For what it’s worth, it felt less humid on the southern beaches, but I’m not sure why!
      Hope that helps!

    I’m going in may. Did you prefer Crete or Santorini?

    • @KathrinZenkinaOfficial
      @KathrinZenkinaOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We loved BOTH! Very different. Santorini is extremely beautiful and romantic - although we didn’t experience this (one side benefit of traveling during Covid was no cruises) there can be thousands of cruise vacationers in certain places (like Oia) at prime times.
      Crete is an enormous island. Definitely advise renting a car and just Exploring! Going to the beaches the locals go to. Stopping in the best restaurant (TripAdvisor) in a tiny drive through town w/o lots of tourist traffic!
      Love both, it’s really hard to choose. I would say 3-4 nights in Santorini, while I would’ve loved 5-7 nights in Crete! How’s that?! 😂

      Hi Jana! The boat was SO amazing! We actually JUST went again with the same company! We took their bigger boat this time (I’m pregnant 😂) and we had a spectacular time!
      I think this boat was 1,750€ for all day? So definitely a luxury option. However, I KNOW that there a lots of options in many price ranges. Callie at Creta Luxury Cruises will help you out! But if you want to shop for options and price, you can see all the boats in Chania harbor in the evening - promoting their boats for the days coming up! Definitely recommend some window shopping! 😎
      Also, there is a large ferry that makes multiple runs to Balos it’s a few hundred people, and guessing by your question, you prefer something more private… but there’s all the info! 🙏🏻💗
