Let us hope this is not because we've blasted civilisation and technology as we know it today to kingdom come. I already own multiple kerosene lanterns, including a Petromax. So I'm not calling these lanterns obsolete, rather I hope more of them will be sold for enjoyment and worship. Not necessity and hardship.
The legendary actor Koundamani, wrote and acted in a segment involving himself, Sendil, and a Petromax Lamp in a movie named VAIDEHI KAATHIRINDHAAL (1984). This lamp is tied deeply to Tamil culture. From temple processions to weddings, this lamp was rented by many for special occasions. There were dedicated businesses in most villages that rented out these lamps and other supplies (water tanks, utensils, other types of kerosene lamps, stoves, etc) necessary for a wedding or a temple festival. Not anymore (since most people have electric lamps). But this great invention will never go away (although diminished in usage) since there are still many situations like processions etc., where the light source needs to be both SUPER BRIGHT, and PORTABLE at the same time. The Petromax Lamp will live on.
Wow! Back in the day a few could afford to light up their homes with cfl and led lights! In which year were you born? Between petromax and CFL, there were incandescent lights, thick fluorescent lights (called tube lights) with wire wound chokes, slim tubelight, tubelight with electronic choke and three decades. Please educate yourself before educating others.
Huh?! Back in the day everyone used incandescent bulbs not cfls, those came later. I never liked the quality of the light & still use low-wattage incandescent bulbs for reading. Where can I buy one of these lamps? The video got my attention bc I’ve been looking for the biggest fuel lantern I can get & so far the only one I’ve found is the Coleman 639c. It’s big but not big enough. These fit the bill. It can even mantle-less. I like the quality & ambience of a flame even if it isn’t as bright.
Bro I just googled “pressure lamp mantle” and its available online. At amazon too of 299₹. So, the production is still going on. What kind of research have you done?
One day this present world will get to know about this, and people may rush to get one for themselves.
Nostalgic.

Remembering Goundamani comedy...😅😜
By the way Kerosene Oil, if said continuously by a native Tamil eventually becomes Krisnaail...😁
came here to comment this 😁
Not really the blue hue that kerosene has might have also gotten it the name Krishna oil. Because Krishna has blue skin. 😅
In this days, still its existing, amazing, my early days remember 😊
Oil necessities. petromax is used for all rural cultural rituals nowdays. "Seiyum tholilae deivam".
Why all the media outlets are obsessed with "why?" in their head lines these days?
That's how you undermine the TH-cam algorithm 🤔
so is the light use jet engine oil (kerosene) ?
Yes
