My favorite part of Emerald is the promenade. The walkway wraps entirely around the ship, albeit with some stairs. But it’s much nicer for walking than the jogging track. Skywalker lounge is great place during the day if you want some quiet time with a GREAT view.

I got of emerald today from a New England Canada cruise. Thoroughly pleased with everything, great service. Food was fine except for a strip steak

What were the options for the Casual Dining Restaurants, where you pay a surcharge ($15 per head)... Steamers? Planks BBQ? Gigi's? Alfredos? Where did they all go?

@@DH-qz2so it will have Planks, Steamers, Salty Dog Gastro pub… but these are pops ups as far as I know and not available every day. I don’t believe the others you mentioned are involved.

Looking forward to Emerald Princess! Just FYI, Emerald is in the Grand Class not the Crown Class

The common areas need a major remodel. Our room was fine.

A good friend of mine is currently aboard the Emerald Princess and is NOT happy with the food , activities or the entertainment, or rather lack of it. He has also commented on it being a geriatric cruise with the average age of passenger being over seventy, He travels mostly solo and there seems to be no solo activity or dining group, To make matters worse, he is dining at a table for one. Hopefully the Maitre d can remedy that.
He has been on over 30 cruising the last 18 months and his first comment to me when he called was ,” I will never sail Princess again!

Perhaps your friend did not properly research the cruise he chose, nor the personality of the cruise line he sailed with. This part of the planning process is imperative. Princess tends to present a more classic type of cruise… and not the strongest contender for solo cruising, as such. And, due to port limitations, does not send its newest largest ships to New England. Prices tend to be much higher with newer, enormous ships going to more exotic locations.
Your friend complained about fellow shipmates largely being elderly. Perhaps. I’m fairly certain there were very few families and virtually no extensive child activity programs. It wasn’t that kind of cruise. Princess is great, but not for every person. Your friend just did his homework wrong.
I’m sailing on this same ship and same route in a couple of months and very much looking forward to it. But it’s pampering, relaxation, good food and beautiful sites that I am seeking this trip. And we were able to afford a balcony!
Do your research. One size does not fit all where cruise ship personalities are concerned.
And, FYI, when making reservations aboard the ship one is asked whether they want to be part of a larger table or not. His choice.

@@julieann4616 I am thinking it’s going to be lovely. I’m looking for relaxation and pampering, coupled with some good food.
I will admit, the excursions seem far less than exciting. A lot of passive bus rides. I’m not into lobster or Anne of Green Gables, but I do love the idea of sailing out of Boston without a lot of extra time and expense.
OK It’s my friend‘s first cruise, and my second. We each have ancestral ties to Nova Scotia and PEI, so that will make it more interesting but honestly, I’m treating the ship like a resort hotel, and anything else is extra. I will say this, I’m thinking the shows will not be my cup of tea. On the other hand, I got the free drink package, etc. 😜
I have traveled with multigenerational family once,.It makes for good memories and a busy time. Smile. Relax. Take from it what you like and leave the rest. Plus, Mama’s boys often make good husbands. 💕
I wish we had a way to meet up, but we’re on a cruise at the end of the month. Give I would love it if you report back after you return.
It’s possible that my friend and I are the same age as your in-laws. I’ll be interested in your opinion of the experience. Bon voyage!

Because this ship is slightly smaller, it can go to ports larger ships can’t. We will be on a port-heavy cruise from Quebec City to Boston. A lack of lots of onboard entertainment is not an issue.
