If you don't feel your gender, you may be agender. Or you may just be a very intelligent person who doesn't buy into the whole gender game at all, who is sensible enough to just be who you are and focus on your personal identity instead. That's far more important. :)

I would say you don't *choose* your gender identity, because it's what you actually feel and are. But you can research to find out if a description fits you and use that label, or you can just choose your own label for your own unique gender identity. Since it's all about how we feel, I fully believe that there are actually eight billion gender identities.

We can still acknowledge the validity of people's identities, despite where the research is right now. The human brain is complex, and it's not an extraordinary leap of faith to acknowledge that there are people whose brains are wired to identify as non-binary or as a gender that does not fit your personal expectations or comfort level.
Rather than imagine yourself being wrangled into "following them," consider empathy instead. Digging your heels in for the sake of resistance leads to ignorance.

"The human brain is complex, and it's not an extraordinary leap of faith to acknowledge that there are people whose brains are wired to identify as non-binary or as a gender that does not fit your personal expectations or comfort level."
Well, it's not about anyone's personal expectations or comfort level; your worldview should be coherent before you expect anyone to buy into it. As for people's brains being wired to *identify* as another gender, even if we grant that as an explanation for their beliefs, that doesn't make their beliefs true.
"Rather than imagine yourself being wrangled into "following them," consider empathy instead."
Empathy does not entail agreement. Don't you have empathy for people with schizophrenia? I'd imagine you do, but still don't agree with their beliefs.

      @@Vic2point0
"What makes their identities valid? Can you provide an objective definition for "man" or "woman"? "
Regarding gender, no, I cannot. Can you?
Our identities are shaped in our brains. That's what makes them valid. It's my observation that while gender is mostly a social construct, there may be some biological contributor. If someone tells me they don't identify as a he or a she, or that they identify as a gender that does not match their birth-assigned gender, I am in no position to refute them. Neither are you. Deciding to label them as something with which they do not identify would paint me as someone who's insecure, apathetic.
I may not understand what it feels like to be them, but that doesn't matter, and if I know what's good for me, I'll reach for empathy.
"Well, it's not about anyone's personal expectations or comfort level;"
Your post does seem to indicate a level of discomfort.
"your worldview should be coherent before you expect anyone to buy into it."
That's a loaded assertion, and it reeks of a certain inhumane callousness and selfishness, though ironically, it's logically incoherent. What it seems like you're saying is, "I refuse to validate your gender identity because gender identity is not yet fully understood." Historically, try applying your assertion to any population of people with differences from the norm: left-handedness, homosexuality, red hair, autism, bipolarity, ADHD, albinism. I group these together because they are all states of being which were at some point (or still are) subject to derision and hostility. _You get to learn from history if you want to_ !
"As for people's brains being wired to identify as another gender, even if we grant that as an explanation for their beliefs, that doesn't make their beliefs true."
Is your gender identity a "belief?" Or is it just who you are? I imagine it's convenient to label someone else's gender identity a b"belief" in order to invalidate it, the same way people label homosexuality a "lifestyle" just to invalidate it. No.
"Empathy does not entail agreement. Don't you have empathy for people with schizophrenia? I'd imagine you do, but still don't agree with their beliefs.
_Agreement_ isn't even a talking point. Schizophrenia is not a "belief." There is nothing to "agree" with. But imagine responding to people with schizophrenia with, "Gotta love how even the 'experts' can't come up with an objective definition for 'schizophrenia', yet they insist we follow them anyway." The Mayo Clinic says, "It's not known what causes schizophrenia, but researchers believe that a combination of genetics, brain chemistry and environment contributes to development of the disorder."
Yeah? Well tough! The experts' conclusions aren't _coherent_ enough, and I refuse to acknowledge that schizophrenia is valid. ← That's what you're saying.

    • @Vic2point0
      @Vic2point0 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@aaronrosenberg6633 "Regarding gender, no, I cannot. Can you?"
So it's not even logically *possible* for their claims of being men/women to be valid, on your worldview. My definition for "man" would be an adult human male, with "male" being someone whose body developed primarily toward the purpose of producing small gametes (sperm). Similarly, a woman is an adult human female, with "female" being someone whose body developed primarily toward the purpose of producing large gametes (ova). This would include those who, due to aging, defects, etc., cannot actually produce their respective gametes.
"Our identities are shaped in our brains."
Sure, but so are all of our beliefs, both true and false. So it obviously doesn't follow that because a thought is shaped in our brains that therefore it's valid.
"Deciding to label them as something with which they do not identify would paint me as someone who's insecure, apathetic."
That doesn't logically follow at all. If a 10-year old identified as 40, I'm sure you would refuse to label them as such...
"What it seems like you're saying is, "I refuse to validate your gender identity because gender identity is not yet fully understood.""
No, I'm saying I refuse to believe your claim until you can make it make sense.
"You get to learn from history if you want to !"
I'm willing to learn, but you don't seem to have anything to teach so far... And I don't mean that as an insult; I'm just pointing out that your replies on this topic have been pretty empty at present. Appealing to generalities, implying it's about me being "uncomfortable", etc., anything to dodge the actual points I'm making.
"Is your gender identity a "belief?""
I don't have a "gender identity", any more than I have a race identity or age identity. I observe objective reality and acknowledge it rather than deny it (though it would be a lot easier for me to live as a 10-year old, believe you me!)
"the same way people label homosexuality a "lifestyle" just to invalidate it."
Well technically engaging in homosexual acts (which is what most of the religious types are actually disagreeing with) *is* part of a lifestyle. The question isn't, is it a lifestyle? or even is it a worldview? It's, is it coherent and/or harmful? I've showed why transgenderism is incoherent. That's enough to differentiate it from being gay.
ME: "Empathy does not entail agreement. Don't you have empathy for people with schizophrenia? I'd imagine you do, but still don't agree with their beliefs.
YOU: "Agreement isn't even a talking point."
It is for me, because it's the fact that I don't agree that makes people try to smear me as lacking empathy for, fearing, or even hating people.
      "Schizophrenia is not a "belief.""
But it's a condition in which people often have beliefs that are untrue. You sought to accuse me of lacking empathy on the basis that I disagree with the beliefs of trans people. Why doesn't that make you lacking in empathy of those with schizophrenia?
"But imagine responding to people with schizophrenia with, "Gotta love how even the 'experts' can't come up with an objective definition for 'schizophrenia', yet they insist we follow them anyway.""
If the experts started saying we should go along with the beliefs of schizophrenics, it would be very appropriate to respond to them that way regarding schizophrenia too. Indeed it would make schizophrenics yet another group not getting the help they actually need.

    • @absolutechadd8895
      @absolutechadd8895 ปีที่แล้ว

You're still wrong because gender non-conforming people will continue to exist, whether that hurts your feelings or beliefs or whatever, and this is the only way to explain and understand their existence, which is inclusive of cispeople as well. This is not a matter of agreement.
This is not any mental illness like schizophrenia, because we have already treated it as a illness for a long time (gender identity disorder). This approach has never worked and hence it's called conversion therapy now. Facts don't care about your feelings mate.
If I explained how gender is defined today, you won't understand. I didn't understand it for a long time either. I always thought that I didn't have a gender identity and all this was nonsense too.
The thing here is that one would need a lot of empathy to understand. You need to put yourself in their shoes. Talk or listen to their experience. Once you do that your perspective completely shifts. You start to see just how complex humans really are and understand what these experts mean with their mumbo jumbo.
That was what I experienced, it was a very gradual process. It's very frustrating at first, but then you eventually understand why these people say what they say.
One warning thought, don't get triggered by what some people perceive as 'buzzwords' or political-correctness or whatever if you decide to listen or read about their experiences.
Also, just wanna point out, both gender identity and age are social constructs, but age is just a measurement. Hence, nobody says that they identify as a 40 year old when they're actually 6. Gender identity is more about how we perceive ourselves.

I lost you when you said "feel" when talking about Gender.
Especially when you can't even define a "man" & a "woman".
"Gender expression" is another phony concept based on what you just decided defined.

But if we put man and women in a house ...after a while of time. We will find a society.
