I've been following Vortic for years, since they started even, and what they do to turn antique pocket watches into wearable timepieces is amazing. Your finished product is exactly what I would expect Vortic to create. The movement and dial are stunning to say the least.
I dont really understand why people are advocating such horrific acts against the pocket watch, what was wrong with his pocket watch to begin with? a wristwatch is as common as it gets, why do we suddendly feel the need to turn rare one of a kind antique century old pocket watches into wristwatches, mind you they have no shock resistance whatsoever, and our hands move around a lot, so i ask WHY? has every1 gone mad? why is this a good thing? i buy a pocket watch to have it as a pocket watch, put a chain on it carry it on your pants, your jacket your hoodie, looking at the time is as simple as pulling it out, i cant fathom why some1 would want to convert a timeless piece of history into the most common type of watches that there are... a WRISTWATCH more so a wristwatch without shock resistance Wristwatches come and go there are millions on the market, a pocketwatch of this caliber and demaskeening deserves better, i bet whoever had this pocket watch before the guy in the video is rolling around on their grave right now
Yes & No - if this watch was original (original dial / original case) I wouldn’t have touched it. But since this watch at its best is a Frankenstein of different watches I see no harm in making this watch become alive (pun intended) in any form that will get love and attention. Yes, there’s no shock resistance - that’s why I wear it on special occasions and don’t “shock” it.
@@ernestochang1744, while I agree with your sentiment about these "timeless pieces of history", not everything is as it appears. The real sadness of what has happened to pocket watches down through the years, is that they have been parted out for their precious metals. The inner mechanics are pulled and the gold and silver cases have been sold off. The Voric Watch Co. searches all over and buys the mechanics and actually saves them and gives them new life in a way that they can be enjoyed by a new generation. They have also taken a few that were special and created new pocket watch cases for them. With the wrist watches they create, Vortic builds them with a see through back so those 100 year old inner works can be appreciated. I still have my grandfathers railroad edition pocket watch that he had custom made and used while he worked the railroad in the early 1900s. I carried it on my wedding day as 'something old'.
Looks awesome! I have a beautiful original Waltham watch from my great grandpa. He purchased it in the early 20s. I’ve been interested in Vortic for awhile and our wrist size is almost identical. 46 and 54 lug is massive but I wonder if they could make a custom case that is thinner. I’m sure it wouldn’t look bad on me but prefer more elegant proportions. Especially since a 12s is less than 40mm. Thanks for the great video!
That’s a good question. I’ll have to weigh it and get back to you. It’s a big watch… But it’s not necessarily a super heavy watch because the case is made out of titanium.
Wow that’s amazing. So good to see what you achieved with this piece and now you have a very unique watch and what a conversation starter. I have liked and subscribed and will follow with great interest. 👏👏👏👍
The dials randomly show up from time to time. I’ve bought similar dials as cheap as 100 bucks… And I’ve seen similar dials sell for as much as 2 grand. I think I found that dial on eBay.
Those hands and dial are fabolous. I'm not really much into pocket watches, but I do love how Waltham use to work, very impressive for that age. At some point, I do really want to add at least one in collection, and what a really good conversion!
It’s not inexpensive - but Vortic does a complete restoration and service to the movement as well as the case modification. Total cost was about $2000.
This is really impressive Patrick. I’m aware of Vortic but I haven’t seen a watch reviewed from them. Your Waltham movement is simply gorgeous. The cost to get that level of finishing today would be astronomical. And for the cost of an upper end Seiko (since you had the movement), great! I’m really surprised that the case dimensions work for your wrist too.
Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised how well it fits on my smaller wrist too. They make a military edition with a 16size pocket watch instead of a 12size (like mine)… I’m really tempted but I’m afraid that one might not fit as well.
As someone born and raised in Massachusetts, Waltham Watch Co. has a rich history and it’s a terrible shame they ended up disappearing. Also, you’re pronouncing the name wrong. It’s pronounced like (Wall -tham) not wall-them
Gorgeous! They did a stellar job with it, and I could just sit and marvel at that thing all day long. I would love to see a bit smaller of a watch done as well -- something like a size 6-8 could actually work quite well by modern size standards. Enjoy this amazing timepiece, and thanks for another great video. 👍
Beautiful piece
Thank you 🙌🏼
Looks great! That dial and hand set WOW.
Thank you. Vortic makes a great watch.
@@PocketWatchTime Your welcome. Did a similar one had a Gruen anniversary PW movement and Vortic made a watch for my son he loves it.
@@dominickcolasanto6582 Do you have pictures posted anywhere? I’d love to see it.

Awesome!!! It really turned out great
I’m definitely impressed with Vortic’s product - very sturdy.
Great Video!
Thank you. Hopefully my videos are getting consistently better.
I’m here😂 Go big or go home, right. Gorgeous🥂
Exactly. A friend of mine is sending in a similar dial in PURPLE for a watch conversion. I’m waiting to see how it turns out.
@@PocketWatchTime that will be a stunner! See, I didn’t even know they did custom conversions🤯
Woo its really amazing ⌚😍😍😍
Thank you

That’s a great story about your grandfather’s pocket watch.
Another great video, great looking watch never knew you could convert pocket watches . 😮
Haha. Another watch wormhole to get sucked into.
is not too big, your wrist is too delicate ❤
Haha 😂 It’s big - but, I manage just fine. Compliments to Vortic for making the lugs so form fitting that even my 6.5in wrists can pull it off.
Really cool! Works so well stunning dial! Great video well done 🔥
Thank you 🙏
Wow!! Super cool 😎 the end result is amazing!! 🙌🏻👍🏻

Vortic does a great job. I’ve never tried out this company (yet)… But they do seem to make smaller watches. Check them out:

May i ask how much the conversion cost please?
No secrets here 😁 - cost a little over $2000 for the servicing of the movement, conversion, and extras.
How much does it weigh? I'll be at an event in July where Vortic has a booth. I'm looking forward to seeing them in person.

Hi, can you give an idea, how much it cost to convert the watch from pocket watch to wristwatch?.
I purchased mine a few years ago… Not sure if prices have gone up secondary to inflation. Generally the prices are about 2k.
Im so glad you went with the conversion. That dial is gorgeous. Really enjoying your channel so... subscribed.
Thanks so much.

Thanks. I’ll probably wear it to NYC for the WatchTime event. No one else will be wearing one. 😉

How much did it cost to get it converted
It wasn’t cheap. I provided all the movements/parts. They serviced and manufactured the case. I think it was around $2500.
