    The year now is 2023 and I can't thank you enough for your video still being up. I've been beading for a long time now. And these past years have been awesome. Thank you and so many others that take the time and share your gifts of knowledge. I live off reserve and have no teachers of bead . Thanks to technology you along with so many others, have been my teacher's. Thank you again.

    As a crocheter that’s exactly how we increase for the average round! I’m just learning to do beadwork and bead embroidery. I’m so new and it feels weird!! Thank you for your content! I learn things by heart and can remember things forever. But I’m a detail oriented perfectionist that learns slowly so your explanations during your videos are ideal for me. I love ya!!!! ❤

    Starts at 9:37.
    It's nice to see people interested in our culture. Please remember it is illegal to sell native bead work if you are NOT Native American. There are people that rely on bead work to support their families, and a lot of the patterns have sacred meanings and belong to different tribes.
    That being said it is nice to see our art being appreciated. When I was a kid, the white kids would make fun of my Regalia or steal it. This is a good change.
    A'HO.

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Cosmic. I so agree that our native bead work should not be sold by people who are not Native. If you watch many of my videos I show the techniques but not specific tribal patterns. I mention that the idea is to learn the ways of creating. The hope is that people will create their own designs or their own tribal patterns. When I was a kid my father (residential school survivor) did not let us participate in our heritage. My grandmother snuck me into beading circles and took me to many of the woman's gatherings where I learned many of teachings of my heritage. I hope each day that we can come to a place of peace with the earth and others.

    When I first saw this video I was a total beginner., and dropped the project . Now, 2 years later and after a lot of other learnings and applying them, and creating other stuff I tried this today . A GREAT success !!! Beading requires a special way of thinking and seeing , and I guess I'm just getting there . Thank you very much for your teachings, and be well/safe/healthy. With love, from France, Ester

    What brought me here in the first place was one small, rounded shape made of beads which was some kind of men's jewellery for traditional costumes here, in Greece. I have never done anything related to it and I was trying to figure it out. Then I found this video. Tried it myself and it went great! Thanks to you, of course. So, thank you so much for this tutorial! I think I'll be into beads for a long time 💕😊

    I enjoyed learning this from your tutorial, I've tried all the beading threads and didn't care for em, they fray easily and you can see em between the beads. I like to use Spider Wire fishing line, 10 lb tess, it works great, ya can't hardly see it between the beads and you'll Never break it, I wish there was a way on here to post a pic of my first Rosette

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spider wire works great for projects like this, but not so great for fringe or anything that needs to flow smoothly. As I always say use what you have and or what works for you.

    Thank you for sharing your gift. I have watched several demos and so far you are the best and most insrictive. I am a new beader and I am 76 years young and love to learn new crafts, or in this case, new art.
    There is so many things that I want to make, what is the best to start With?

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I was learning when I was young I started with something simple like a daisy chain stitch. It helps when you are young to handle the needle and thread with bead for the first time. Since you are older and I am assuming have had some experience with a needle and thread, feel free to try anything that is flat. Earrings are always a good place to start, or a peyote bracelet. I think it is awesome that you are still learning new things and teaching yourself new skills. Have fun.

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karry, I have tried having a white background but a couple of things happened. I ran into the same issue when I worked on light beads, it also got so dirty so fast, no matter what I did. It also really set the white balance spinning as I worked, trying to deal with all the white every time I moved my hands out of the shot. Unfortunately I don't have one of those fancy cameras yet. So for now I stay within my limitation, and do the best I can.

    I'm not 100% on how that last row was done. Was it all singles on one bead or doubles or a variation.......? I'm new at rosettes and want to be sure I'm doing it right! I love the Native American techniques and want to learn as traditionally as I can!

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Teira, The last row is the same as the others increasing one more bead between the doubles. As I suggested in this video let your beads be your guide. You want it to lay flat. if it does not then you either have two many or not enough beads on the row. Makes a cup = not enough, Frilly= to many. Have fun!

      I don't create videos anymore. There are so many different ways to thread a needle. Use whatever way works for you. The big concern is not using a thread that is too long. If you do you will have twisting, self knotting and fraying issues. Happy creating

      Hello Terry, I get my beads from several sources. The first place I go is to my local reservation. They sell good quality beads, so I am lucky that way. Online I order them from Potomac Beads, Fusion Beads and Eureka Crystal Beads. The last one has some great bulk pricing and if you catch a sale that can be used at the same time, you can save a lot. I am in Canada so Potomac and Eureka don't cost me customs fees. I hope this helps.

    • @ManieMartinez

      you weave in a new thread through the work coming out where the thread ended and keep going. Have fun

    I would love your advice...Cousin took Native Studies instead of French. She made various crafts using hide and beads (I also understand for beginners they can use a stiffen felt? Do you know where I can get KITS for these types of crafts?

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At Present I am not aware of any place that sells kits. You can get the parts including the beads from Potomac Beads. They have beads and thread and needles and the stiffened fabric.

    Can this circular rosette be made on a loom?

  • @tonjaponja3709
    @tonjaponja3709 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello... I have quick question. So I figured up to row 6 but what do I do after that?
    1x2
    1x2 1x1
    1x2 1x1 1x1
    1x2 1x1 1x1 1x1
    1x2 1x1 1x1 1x1 1x1
    1x2 1x1 1x1 1x1 1x1 1x1
    Then continue that route?

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello that is the basic principal. The skill when going bigger is to keep medallion flat. if the beads are really uniform it will go fairly good, otherwise you will have to add increases and take away some as you go. That becomes the real skill. To keep the pattern as you get bigger. If you look at bigger ones you will see that the pattern often gets repetitive but with less precision, to keep it easier to get bigger. Good luck.

    I'm confused couldn't you just do two doubles on the fourth row for this one since it's two blues and then two whites or would that mess it up?

    • @ManieMartinez
      @ManieMartinez  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Sara, the 4th row you are needing 64 beads so yup you could do doubles. The repeating of so many singles and a double with the increases are helps you remember what is going on and means more thread passes through each bead. It can for some patterns give you a crisper look too.
      It is your creation for feel free to do what works for you.

    Hello Manie!
    This is a great tutorial! ☀️😍
    I just wanted to ask you what is the type of thread you are using? I tried with a silicone one, but it seems it's too thick. In the shop I saw there is an elastic one, but I thought it would break. Thank you!

      Hello Dormilonga, I tend to use Nymo D for most of my beading work. You can also use fireline 6lb or 4 lb. if you want your work to be stiffer and not use the wire around the outside you can use 8lbs fireline or wildfire if you are working with round 11/0 seed beads. I hope this helps and happy creating.

    I have noticed that at the end of round, there are two red each round but one red missed, supossed to be two red each around. Never mind. 👍. Did you notice that?

      we have a native tradition of having an imperfection in something we make. It helps to keep one humble. So when I make a mistake I leave it in. Good eyes
