Ohio State Marching Band GoPro Experience

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 26 ก.ย. 2024
- This is a video of me marching in the I-6 position with The Ohio State University Marching Band on October 6th, 2018 against Indiana University. Since I am assistant squad leader, I normally lead out the band in the I-1 position. However, this time the head squad leader and I decided to switch positions. This is a true representation of what it is like to be on the field for the ramp entrance, and the incomparable Script Ohio. A special thank you to Emily Dean and the Big Ten Network for allowing me to use their GoPro!

@@hansmanfred1962 I'm gonna be in marching band next year(the year I start high school) and everyone's like it's gonna be so fun but it's also very tiring
It’s the fact that I NEVER saw any of them out of step. That is the most impressive part.
Absolutely. Unbelievable. A lot of hard work went into this.
I did
There were several people out of step. The fact that it was hidden so well is a testament to how good they are. It also has to deal with numbers. The more people that there are, the less obvious it is.
I know right and I tried so hard to find at least one person at a step and I failed epically
I don't think that's the most impressive part, if everyone starts on the same step and stays on time with the beat everyone will stay in step.
In my opinion I think playing the instruments while making coordinated movements is the most impressive thing; there's a lot of things to think about, nothing much to think about to stay in step.
For a person who knows nothing about marching bands this dope asf
for us marching band people it's just another game

The vocal callouts are what have my attention. I marched through high school, and would have marched in uni if I went through with it. That there is the difference between a band that’s “good for their age” and one that’s genuinely amazing. The coordination and confidence is unmatched. So many kids are afraid to vocalize on the field when they start out.
Hearing all the little time keepers like the step, kick, kneel or even a simple audible countdown is so refreshing. It keeps not only the caller in time, but the whole group on the same page. Like the call of whistle at the very start, calling the whole band to attention and starting the pace at the same time… it’s such a little detail that needs more appreciation.
Also damn those turns are sharp. Every one is so clean and snappy and just brilliantly executed.
I would like to become in an marching band🥁😁👍

I know this is a year later, but it's actually fairly simple. You focus on what you have to do; Each member does what they do perfectly, and it looks like the whole band doing incredible things. Rotating squares? Just each person in the band moving perfectly in straight lines. :P

Being a former marching band member myself…. This brings back some fun memories and fun times. You guys are awesome
I can’t believe how steady this is, like I understand the GoPro probably digitally stabilizing this but it crazy that at the pace you match and it looks like a dolly shot
People in marching bands are trained to walk super quicky without their heads bobbing at all. It's crazy
first things said in high school marching band is “hi welcome to band!” promptly followed by “forget everything you know about walking, you’ve always done it wrong.” College just builds off of that.
When you join a marching band you spend weeks, or even months, learning how to walk in such a way that it looks like your gliding on the grass. This is so your foot hitting the ground doesn't jar your body which would then reflect in the music you're playing. It's not easy, but even now I find myself doing it sometimes , especially when I'm carrying drinks without lids.
By sqweezing your lower body and marching it stabilizes your upper body which makes it easier and sound better to move and play (at least for winds)
It's called glide stepping, The name may vary but still the same concept, its to make it so your upper body does NOT bounce up and down. If you've tried walking, without proper training, with your instrument, you will understand why it is so so very essential.

One of the many things we do for marching band
Jess Randomness actually it was to not smack the guy infront of him as he turned.... but you gotta add some flare to it
Well, they do that plenty of other times, as well, just for the precision. Say, for example, that they’re making a perfect rectangle. They snap their instruments upwards, and back into place, so as to not have parts of the instrument outside of the area.
Just look at 11:34 for example. In front of the drums, they’re snapping their instruments into place.
Edit: Or literally even 9:55.
They are ordered to do that so they dont hit anything or anyone its for safety reasons

I wouldn't know I'm trumpet
Actually tuba is we get worst music
I’m always amazed at the precision of TBDBITL, but the tiny movements are unbelievable….
The turn of the head, the position of the hand, the step-snap. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
I just got a new TBDBITL license plate. So proud!
As a native Ohioan this is like finding a bunch of candy.
How do you pronounce that
@@noahmay7708 Ohio but with an?
nobody:
percussion: DUT DUT DUT DUT DUT
*O H I O*
Let's be honest, if your percussion isn't doing that, they're doing something wrong.
PaineintheBurke they aren’t marching in time
Wow. This is the most unfunny, unoriginal, and flat out retarded thing I’ve ever read.
I never understood why they yell dut dut dut before the ramp entrance starts
Man that corner turn at 9:56 was SHARP
Guess he must've been playing a SHARP note😎😂
Watching the shadows in 11:53 is insane. They are all in exact time, marching and playing perfectly. Truly amazing!
1:56 the best moment ever. Man I wish our band did that 😂
i’m still not sure what he said
@@STR8ARRW "Drums, on the side!" (three strikes) "Ready to go!"
It always feels like going into battle. Best feeling ever
@@lebecccomputer287 I mean they are wear civil war type stuff
@@DJTrainBrain OOHH
Dunson, you never told me how good of a singer you are
Lol
I'm a senior in high school (trumpet) and this is sooooo cool! I want to say thanks for all the help during summer clinics and sessions etc. Even though I didn't ever meet you, I still recognized you and your name. I know you have definitely made an impact on a percussionist the way Katie Brink impacted me. Can't wait to be accepted so I can do this. It is a perspective very few have seen. Amazing video!
Anytime! Looking forward to seeing you at summer sessions ;)
I play trumpet too
Dylan Daugherty trumpets are superior
I play trumpet I’m in middle school 6th grade just started
Nah double basses are where it’s at although we can’t really march lol so I guess that’ll never happen.
This brought back many memories of marching in my college band in the late 70's. I played bass trombone and it was great to march along on the field with this great band. Thanks for taking us on a trip down memory lane! Glad you guys only had to do a glide step and not a high step. Every eight steps I saw everyone's instep hitting the yardline and in step - that is impressive!
"being tall for the first time in my life"
I miss marching band, I had some of the best moments in my entire life. ( SAX SQUAD 🔥🔥🔥)
Blareitonees are bletter
Freddy Flores 18 did you get given a hard time for being in marching band? We don't have them in Britain unless it's Army.
I'm from Austria and this is insane and so fascinating omg
Keks Socke me too
Hey look at that, fellow Austrians lol
after finding this a year ago i still come back to this
the dude with the trombone must’ve broke his neck at 9:46
I thought I was the only one who saw that. For a second I was like, “Is the Trombonist’s neck okay?”
Is that a budgie in your profile pic? I love budgies
Gotta do what you gotta do for the band 👊🏻😞
Nah, they practice snapping their instruments into place, safely. They do the same things in other parts of the show, as well, so they gotta do what they gotta do.
You control the horn mostly with your shoulders and stabilize it with your arms. Your core muscles stabilize your shoulders and spine so you can control the horn's momentum instead of the other way around. Your head just follows the motion :)
That national anthem, I could train my chops for years and never be able to that so cleanly.
I feel bad for the drummers, their hands must of been on fire...
The best is getting the blisters on your hands and still having to play
Preston Lopez yup this is my first year on snare. Band camp just ended and and fingers are aching lol
@@quiller6198 as they said it.
No pain. No gain.
They use gloves on.
For me it's not so much my hands, but the forearms after playing certain cadences or playing for a prolonged amount of time, and shoulder and back pain are a whole other story
