🤔What’s an underrated classic you think more people should be talking about?

More than people think.... I've started reading a lot more classics and while it takes time to train your brain for the language they use (less modern English), it's worth the effort.
Thomas Hardy is a classics author I didn't know of until I started "hanging out " with more classics readers. His writing is very accessible. Also Elizabeth Gaskell. My first book by her was The Moorland Cottage. I think you'd like it too. You can use Project Gutenberg for many classics in ebook form.

@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD Ooh good recs! I have Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy and both Wives and Daughters and North and South on my shelf from Elizabeth Gaskell ☺️ I hadn’t heard of Moorland Cottage, definitely adding that to my TBR :)

For anyone reading 'Anna Karenina' for the first time, who wishes to skim over or it or just want avoid reading that part entirely...DON'T! It's there for a reason, and it was written/kept in the final manuscript that way by Tolstoy, because he's trying to impress thoughts, feelings and the way you judge a character, upon you during this scene. Allow the mundanity and peacefulness of this evening, to wash over you, as you relax and get out of your comfort zone.
I only discovered your channel today, but I'm glad I did. An easy choice to make about deciding to "Subscribe" , I'm looking forward to bingeing on your other videos, as well as waiting for what you do next.
    Have a good week!

Oh and the part I was referring to after imploring y'all not to skip it was of course the infamous 'Lev/Haystck' scene. If it feels boring and slow and unnecessarily long at first, but just relax and let Tolstoy work his magic on you! It'll all make sense by the end! 👌

I personally loved that scene. You’re right, the inner debate, inner war that Tolstoy reveals to us through scenes such as that are an essential piece of the storytelling. But to be graceful, I’d say that if a reader got that far and felt the book wasn’t for them, it might just be the wrong time to read it :)
      Welcome along! 🥳

Thank you, reading Levin part is such a bliss and Anna part an trail for me, not because of the plot or character, but the reflection. War and Peace is on another line great, it changed my life perspective for a half year serious reading.

Great video. I'm excited to reread this by a different translator just to experience the story in a different way.

This cover is the worst from the penguin deluxe. All the others are great, in my opinion.
I'm going to read the translation from Marian Schwartz, which is the one I liked the most when I compared it to the others available.

Yeah, the cover is a fail. Too bad, because the translation was excellent, and I had 0 issues with the text size or weight of the book. Very readable.

This is not any romantic love story, like all Jane Austen's, they are lives...
