This is wonderful and like someone else mentioned true for every aspect. Genetic limits to intelligence, musical ability, etc. Lyle is hilarious, easily one of my favorite podcasts you've made.

I've been training steady and smart for about 7 months. I'm 55 with an ffmi of 19.3. would it even be possible to reach 22-23 at my age without drugs?

No way to say it, genetics, environment, injuries are so complicated. My best bet would be looking at some of the drug tested powerlifters in your age/height class and check if they can. You should also consider they are probably top 10% genetically with 10+ years of good training.

What about 24hr fasts and training in that state? Boosts testosterone up to 5000%

    • @johnfurr5698

And what will testosterone do without food? Nothing.

@@johnfurr5698 well they will stay elevated until food is reintroduced after the workout is completed around 24 hours after the fast began?

I don't understand Lyle's opinion on being the same as you were in high school. How is someones genetic potential determined by the dietary and fitness habits and environmental situation of someones teenage self? I'd say most people aren't pushing themselves to be their best self in high school, so besides the minority of jocks (and even then different sports tailor training to different needs) this ideology just seems ignorant with no structured reasoning. Maybe he just tells himself this because it looks like he doesnt even lift

Epigenetics will probably be a factor as well, meaning your long term habits will affect your gene expression.
I think what he means is that your diet and fitness has an effect on your development during puberty. As he did in this podcast, you can essentially compare puberty to a steroid cycle but with more or less permanent effects. During a steroid cycle, you can gain muscle mass even if you don't train much or eat much protein/kcals but it's never gonna give you as big an effect as eating a lot and training a lot and the same goes for puberty in a way. This is obviously simplified but it should hold up decently well.

I am near 50. I classify myself ecktmorph but close to mesomorph.
The guys I went to school with K-12 who I am in touch with all have the same body type in middle age. The skinny bastards are still skinny. The mesomorph body types stayed mesomorph.
      Lyle is right.
