You can't win MVP being just DH in this era unless he hits 60+ Homers that will never happen he gets injured too much..

    Josh Naylor, with his second straight yr of a 130+ wRC+, should be ahead of Hoskins, Pasquintino, Nate Lowe, and Casas. A 14% k rate, .308 batting average and .350+ OBP with a solid glove should absolutely get you in the top ten. I mean, he praised Olson for “never striking out” with a 23% k rate and Naylor was at 14%!!! Cmon man

    • @Charlie_Stuart
      @Charlie_Stuart 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think he was looking at strikeout to walk ratio. While I agree it’s a bad statement I still think Olson is top 3 and he isn’t 3

    • @davidwindell
      @davidwindell 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Charlie_Stuart even if he was praising the k/bb ratio, Naylor is still right there. Olson is 23/13.5, Naylor is 14/7.6. That’s almost the same, and the raw K rates are dramatically different. Sure Naylor could take more walks, but he has an excellent contact rate and his .350+ OBP is plenty good enough. He’s a top 10 1B without a doubt. Olson, IMO, is #2. I think Naylor should be 6-7.

    Rizzo at 20 is VERY harsh considering he was outstanding prior to the concussion. If the thought is that he just won't be healthy, I can fully understand, but that was not the main reasoning given. It was that he "started to take a few steps back," which was simply not the case prior to the concussion. He was hitting .304 with a .376 OBP and .880 OPS with 11 HRs in 53 games before he got hurt. Then he played through it for months. Not saying he should be top 10 by any means, but he needs to be in the 15 range.

    Rizzo got fucked by our medical staff, dropping him down that much is a bit insane. Its wild he was allowed to play for two more months while clearly struggling with something physically. His numbers dropped because he wasnt healthy, not because hes actually getting worse. He was having a really strong year until the concussion, i think its unfair to drop him into the bottom half of the list when he can still absolutely produce at a top 10 level. Like there was a very clear performance drop after the collision with Tatis, its just not right to say you want to see better from him when he was doing really well before the injury. If he was properly managed maybe he wouldve been treated correctly and returned healthy during the season instead of having his season ended because they didnt realize he was struggling with post concussion symptoms.

That being said, I don't agree with your assertion that he only had that many RBIs cuz he was in the right part of the lineup. Look at his 2023 splits, he was huge for the Astros in clutch situations; he batted .275 with a .900 OPS with RISP, and over 1.000 with a runner on second or third. Also, he was MUCH better post-all star break, and was lights out in October. I fully expect an Abreu revival in 2024.

    1. Freeman
    2. Olson
    3. Harper
    4. Guerrero (his ceiling is MVP)
    5. Alonso
    6. Casas (and I'm a Yankees fan)

    10. Rizzo (had an .890 OPS pre-concussion)

    What I’ll say about Torkelson is this.
    He had such a disastrous start to the season that some of his numbers never recovered. He had some incredibly bad luck, and his strikeout rate is a lot like J-Rod’s early numbers where he was dealing with a lot of bad strikes. His other stats were lower because of insanely bad babip luck. He hits the hell out of the ball, he has an average glove, and I fully expect next year, with more protection in the lineup, that Tork will be a very good 1B next season.

    • @davidwindell
      @davidwindell 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Much like Naylor. Josh had incredible barrel rates and exit velos the first two months last year but had an absurdly low BABIP. Once the luck started balancing out he played incredible.

    Marc, I understand your concern with Abreu. But when you look into it more he had a back injury he was fighting for the whole first half of the season. He finally took time to get it fixed and started performing in the second half and popped off in the postseason. No doubt in my mind he bounces back.

    • @brandondillman5841
      @brandondillman5841 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      they might. Kjerstad and Santander can play 1st. O'Hearn destroyed right handed pitching and Samuel Basallo is flying through the farm system and projects to be a first baseman. If trading Mountcastle can get them a good starter I'd do it.

    • @mx4159
      @mx4159 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brandondillman5841 santander has very little experience at 1B and as good as I think Kjerstad will be, he still hasn’t proven himself at the MLB level yet. I wasn’t aware that Basallo also plays 1B but as good as he will be, I don’t think he’ll be in the majors for a bit.
      Mounty is young and still has multiple years of team control, and unless they can get a bona fide ace, I don’t think they should trade him. I just don’t see a trade happening where Mounty is the deal breaker

    I can almost certainly say Jeimer Candelario is not going to be the every day first baseman in Cincinnati with Christian Encarnacion-Strand still hanging around. They're not gonna DH CES every day, I wouldn't think. I'd say he probably plays a good chunk of time at 3rd base to let Marte get some rest. That being said, 15 is a good spot for him and I do like the signing... weird fit and all.

    So the only thing Freeman led Olson in was steals, OBP, and batting average. I'd have to give it to Olson, the only reason Freeman finished 3rd in MVP and is "ahead" of Olson is because he's with the Dodgers. If he played for KC or Pittsburgh he'd be top 5.
