    Great video I got the same Toyo Open Country AT3 285/75/17 inch 10ply on my 2020 Ford F150 had my dealer install them with a 2 inch lift before I bought the truck. I have 6,000 miles on them I still have the whiskers on all tires the wear is almost zero ride and quality has been excellent 👍 so far.

    I’ve been running the Toyos for a few years now. I had them on my Tacoma and they did everything I wanted and lasted @42k. I put a set of Cooper ATs on it before I sold it and they were garbage in comparison. I have the Toyos on the 4Runner I have now but 10 plys. I had a flat tire in the mountains of WV and the Grabbers on there were worn. The shop only had the 10s. Been excellent also.

    Nice video. I have the same tires and size on my 2016 F250 with great results. I'm a defense contractor and do a lot of work at the northern bases so I've used these tires in the Dakota's, Illinois, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, even Michigan's lower half. I purchased them specifically for the 3 peak rating and they haven't let me down. With close to 30k miles on them, they still have well over half of the original tread depth left and I can see them easily hitting the 60k to 70k mark before I replace them. As far as road noise... of course they're nowhere near as quiet as the Michelin's that came on the truck but they are only slightly louder than the KO2's I had on it for a while. That said, they are MUCH quieter than the 35x12.50 Trail Graps I ran for 70,000 miles. The Nitto's were awesome tires and took me everywhere I wanted to go but I lost about 3mpg (about 15mpg hwy) with them and they got quite loud after 25k. With the Toyo's, I only lose about 1mpg compared to the Michelins 18 hwy mpg. Not bad for a truck with 265,000 miles on it that rolls across the scales at 9300lbs with my tools and full transfer tank. Rotate every oil change and they should keep you happy for a long time.

    Bought a flat tire kit (the plug type). Ditched the spare tire on the 4Runner. Saved almost 70 pounds and therefore MPG. Plus, I don't trust changing a flat tire on the side of the road anymore. Flat tire kits are much faster and highly reliable. You'll be fine unless a tire explodes or there is a tear on the sidewall. Those are rare (unless you're reckless).

    Nice Job on these tires, I like how you did all your homework. i am doing the same now as I just purchased A F350 with those Goodyear Wrangler Adventure with Kevlar. I am in the northeast in MA and these are not a good winter tire as I tried them in the last storm and they were terrible. The only knock that I have heard on these are the noise is not good on the highway. Other than that I am looking at the Falken in size LT295/70R18. Thank you for your review.

    I have these on my 2023 Toyota Tacoma trd sport. They have excellent traction in the snow.and they are good on the highway. They aren't to noisy either for the aggressive tread design. I'm definitely going to buy them again. I highly recommend them for a good all around tire.

    Hello from the lower peninsula. I just went through the same thing with my F150 and decided on the Toyo's over the Falken's. I like the Toyo tread pattern better and they were a little over $100 cheaper than the Falkens. 285/75r17 size doesnt leave you with many options especially when most tires are backordered now.

    I love the narrow tire size you have! I have the same tires and hate them. I live in the PNW with lots of wet roads. The wet traction is scary. So much wheel spin with even lite acceleration and tire chirp on medium breaking.

      read and watched reviews of a number of AT tires and Tire Rack testing showed the Toyo's to have subpar wet weather traction and braking. i'm sure they are very good off road, but for me (Vancouver Island) wet weather road performance is critical. i'm running Summitomo Encounter AT's, they are great.

  • @gregmacklem

    That is the tire I’m looking at for my F250. Like you I have the 3.73 gears. I tow a camper and run about 2,100 RPM at 65 MPH when towing. I calculated the larger tires would drop that to about 2,000 RPM. I’m a little worried it will be too low. It tows easily now but maybe could run a bit more RPM to get more into the power band.
    Do you tow anything with yours? If so how does it do?

    • @NorthernExplorerOverland
      @NorthernExplorerOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't tow anything with mine. I purchased it mostly to haul my truck camper (which I haven't put on since getting these tires). If you want this size tire but don't need something that is this aggressive, I would recommend Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT. They are six pounds lighter than the Toyo's which should help a bit for towing.

    I've noticed on every video I've seen about these tires, the sidewall lugs that it has points different directions when comparing the left side of the truck to the right side. Is that just how the tire is? Or is there a way to mount them so the sidewall lugs point the same way on both sides? Hopefully this makes sense.

    • @NorthernExplorerOverland
      @NorthernExplorerOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s just the way they are. I would think that if the sidewall lugs pointed in the same direction, the tire tread would also point in the same direction. This would make the tire directional and would limit tire rotation options.

    So I've been binge watching your channel and subscribed because I like your attention to detail. But I'm also looking at a similar 2023 F250 XLT 7.3L 10-speed SuperCab, 6 3/4' bed, standard 18" wheels and standard LT275/70Rx18E tires. Why didn't you choose the Tremor LT285/75R18E tire? It looks like it will fit on the stock wheel and stock height suspension. Also did your ride improve or get worse with the Toyo tires? I'm especially interested in ride quality having never owned a HD and wanting it for my daily driver. Thanks!

    • @NorthernExplorerOverland
      @NorthernExplorerOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for subscribing. The F250 Tremor comes with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac in 285/75 r18. They measure 35.1 inches tall and 11.2 inches wide. I’m 100% sure they would have fit my truck. The Toyo Open Country AT3 that I chose are just marginally smaller at 34.8 inches tall. I went with the Toyo’s just to try something different. A lot of people run Duratracs as they are oem tires on some vehicles. I will say the ride quality improved slightly. My truck also has the snowplow prep package (heavier duty front springs) and it does run fairly rough as my daily driver. I keep my camper mounted on the truck all summer and with the extra weight (about 1100 pounds) the ride quality is much better.

      @@NorthernExplorerOverland Thank you. I'm a hunter and average about 50 trips to the woods annually. We're driving deeply rutted logging roads that either wash out or become sloppy with rain. It's a constant problem and sometimes they are impassable. I'm wanting something that can take the abuse in stock form but not have a punishing ride. No diesels. Extended cabs have always been the best compromise as you know. Thanks again!

    Have you ever considered ditching carrying a spare tire? Especially when using a higher ply rated tire? I have been driving now for 23 years and at age 38 ive never used a spare tire yet. I just carry a plug kit, an air pump and a can of the fix a flat just in case. All cheaper than spending money on a tire likely to never be used and subtracting the weight of carrying the tire on the vehicle. If it is really that bad i will just call a tow truck. But i will just take my chances other than continually buying a 5th tire over and over again.

    • @NorthernExplorerOverland
      @NorthernExplorerOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The day I get rid of the spare is the day I get a puncture in the sidewall that a plug kit can't fix. Just my luck. But as you said.... I sold my original spare tire for $30.00. Never used. It was probably a $200 plus tire. The answer is to do a 5 tire rotation instead of a 4 tire rotation. That way the spare gets used. The only problem is I would have to get a matching wheel (spare wheel is different) and I wouldn't have a tire pressure monitor on one tire. Good luck.

      they are not the best wet traction tire by no means. They are a harder compound which gives it the longer wear life just like its processor AT2's. That in turn makes these tires want to spin fairly easily on wet pavement. Maybe on a a SuperDuty its ok but on a half ton not so much. Still one of the best tires you can buy imo.

    The 3 peak symbol also doesnt mean an all terrain or hybrid tire is good in winter driving conditions. I have the falken wildpeak at3w on my f150 and they are the most garbage tire ive ever used in snowy wintery conditions. Wish i still had my stock highway tread tires on. They performed much better the first winter i had them. Luckily im getting a different set of tires this fall with my property tax return money. And am narrowed down to: Toyo open country at3, Nitto Ridge Grappler and the leading choice thus far the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.
    Ive had Bfgoodrich t/a ko2's before on a powerstroke i previously had and they are solid enough. But going to try something else to see if i can get a tire with even better performance. Because why wouldnt i?? Predator new mutant tires are intriguing but came out of left field and i dont know much of anything from that manufacturer. All i know is they cool as heck. So a hard pass for me.
