    I think the kitchen cabinets should have stayed and just add more and put the knobs in the middle. That really gave the kitchen character and personality! I loved seeing that!!❤❤❤

    All the knick knacks makes it appear crowded. IMO never paint wood floors if you can refinish and stain. The value over time is better.

      My heart breaks every time I see that. It happens on almost every reno show.. It's a very lazy way to remove cabinets. 😭

      If they are like my old ones, they were built in place and couldn't be taken out in sections. They wouldn't fit another kitchen and the labour to rebuild them would cost more than they are worth. Mine are not standard sizes, have small internal shelves, don't go to the ceiling (dust catchers!) and the base cupboards have no bottoms inside them (the pots and pans sit on the floor!). The drawers are stiff to pull out. They have coats of old chipped paint. I could go on...

    I don't know what the market is like there, but where I live some nice staging and sprucing up the outside would have sold that house.
    I hate painted wood floors! I have them in my bedrooms and I'd rather see imperfect wood than paint.

    Love these ladies but I wish some things could be salvaged. Those kitchen cabinets were solid wood.

    • @heswatchnu
      @heswatchnu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's my thought as well. Wood can be upcycled in so many ways.
      They need to partner with local wood workers to salvage such items.

    I really, really resent when old kitchens are just mindlessly smashed up - instead of gently dismantling them. Either to give to charity or to resuse the matrials elsewhere. A big ‘shame on you’ to the team for that. Sorry folks.

      Unfortunately, a lot of these homes were built with materials that contain lead or asbestos. So while it would be great to donate these materials for reuse, it's just not that easy at times.

    • @VioletJoy
      @VioletJoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fragout9575 There are plenty that are salvageable though. I'm not sure how to properly handle cabinets that contain asbestos, but I've heard it's fine as long as it's not peeling. So even if the paint contained asbestos, there still might have been a way to salvage these. Maybe??

    • @fragout9575
      @fragout9575 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@VioletJoy I'm sorry if my explanation wasn't clear. Asbestos was used in some flooring materials and siding and wraps around HVAC duct work. Lead paint was used in most homes built before the early 70s. When a lot of these homes are being renovated, they have to test a lot of these materials if it's suspected to be lead based paint or asbestos and they have to be removed by special methods. Yes, in some cases, if you are careful, you can remove items that have been painted over lead based paint. Asbestos, can't be removed by the average homeowner. That is why I said it's difficult to keep some items for reuse. Especially items that are specifically apart the original structure prior to the early 70s in SOME homes.
      Hope that helps.

    Kitchen knobs in the middle were a tend in to 70's. My mother's kitchen had had the pulls in the middle. To me, you took the house and removed it's character. You had tress ripped out rather than trimmed back. This was never an unsellable house. This was an real estate agent who had no clue how to sell a house.

    minimal items would look better. Sorry but clutter is not inviting... Attention to detail is vital. Ancient hardwood flooring upstairs means noisy downstairs and there is already traffic noise in front. I think the high bushes was to reduce the noise from traffic...

  • @jhutch1681
    @jhutch1681 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Big job!
    Nice kitchen and details.
    I can't imagine that painted floors are really as durable as finished hardwood, and if they weren't going to replace the rough sections, a little wood filler might have been nice.
    I don't understand the wall unit surrounding the entrance door.
    I think there was a missed opportunity to make the family room look more multi-functional. A kids play corner, a desk, a pool table, reading area... something more than just a great expanse between couch and chairs.
    The main suite looks nice, but I wish there was backsplash over the sink.

    Too much staging for me. I am looking at their stuff and not imaging how my furniture and belongings would fit in. What they did was mostly cosmetic, except for the kitchen.
