If Huawei's 7nm chips are produced in low (how low?) yields, how come they can produce tens of millions of advanced chips since last August 2023? And if the low yields push up their cost, how come they can sell it almost half the cost of iPhones?
Huawei has the advantage of mass production, so even if some yields fail to meet specifications it wouldn't affect them that much, moreover Huawei has the advantage of diversity in their supply chain so beating price down wouldn't be impossible either.
@@solverTechinkproducing chip-sets with obsolete DUV technology at twice the price removing them from the conversation. The world is already moving or has moved to 3nm, and 1.6 has been cracked. At the moment, their sales are a result of patriotism. Not much of a business model.
Great point, at the global level 5nm is no big deal, which is true, but a nation such as China being able to mass produce 5nm with absolete DUV is a big deal. To be able to use older DUVs for mass production of 5nm is a very difficult thing to do.
@@solverTechink it was not so long ago when everyone was producing smaller and smaller nm with DUV. The time and expense means they cannot be competitive. Also, at this stage, all this is just a rumor reported by a single source.
DUV mechanic can do 14nm but Huawei and SCIM are able to use DUV mechanic to make it work at 5nm. It's was impossible and they still was able to mass produced.

Huawei is the best ❤
Nothing new about a new chipset????
This is the first time SMIC has been able to mass produce 5nm. So this is a new chip to SMIC.
