Interesting. A pick does make attacks more articulated. A couple thoughts. My fingernails are quite involved when I strum. My down strum uses my index fingernail and to a degree my middle finger fingernail. I twist my wrist every so slightly and get the back of my thumbnail on the up strum. I have also selected strings that are bright with a lot of sustain - Aquila Reds. The downside - they only last me 2.5 to 3 months and I have to restring in order to keep the sound I want. A low G string has a lot more sustain - I love it. True - if I want to thrash - like I do when I perform Fat Bottom Girls - I use a Diamond leather pick, and if it gets flabby, I have to toss it and use a fresh one. It could also be your ukulele. I have played ukes that aren't nearly as loud. I solid wood top makes a huge difference. I can't say enough good things about Koa wood, and my favorite concert ukuleles all have solid Koa wood tops. I also like the sound of a solid spruce top. Lots of bright, crisp resonance.
I have a spruce top concert ukulele with lazer etchings. I think it sounds quite good with Aquila strings. Loud, bright, clear. No picks needed. Economy brand.

Thank you for making the chords large !! ❤
I’m glad they helped!
Love the finger picking pattern and also this arrangement of We Wish You A Merry Christmas!! Best one I’ve seen!!
I love playing this one. It’s so classic. This tune haunted me for my entire Sunday run!!!! Kinda good - kinda not. Thanks for your support!
I can't make my uke ring, I had to use a plectrum. it just sounds muddled when I strum or pick using my fingers.
