    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Great observation! - I think we are a little surprised ourselves. In fact, we've been thinking about making a video about this an showcasing how we eat, which is very healthy... It may even shock you that our grocery store bill was about $600.00 - $800.00 a month back in the states (for two people BTW)... Before all this inflation madness.... We've come to the reality that healthy food choices are just more expensive in general, but in Colombia nearly equal to the price as they are in the US. Things like nuts/seeds, coconut oil, variety of veggies/greens, supplements, fermented foods, the better coffees, etc... On eating out... We could have easily cut that number in half if we had avoided specifically 3 restaurants that were really fancy and had gringo prices... But, we didn't hold back, because we have the income, and it didn't break any budget rules. --- I'm sure we could bring our grocery bill to $300.00 if we choose to eat smaller meals... And, if we stop eating out at some fancy pants places, we could get our eating out to $150.00 and still have a very good time... Which would be about $225 per a person a month versus $442.50 per a person a month... GREAT COMMENT AND THANK YOU FOR THE VIEW!

      @lifetheorycouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel Wise! - Thanks for the view and comment! - Wifi is good. We've been living out of Airbnb's and one of our top questions for hosts is, "what is the internet speed?" - Right after visiting Bucaramanga we were in Cali for a month... And, we did not ask that question and our internet speed was crap, like 5 mbs... Since then we ask hosts this questions and test the internet speed everywhere we go. It is common to find anywhere from 20 mbs to 200 mbs where people have fiber optic. - We are digitial nomads and do all our work online. So, I think you'll be fine as long as you ask what the speeds are where ever you decide to stay. --- We also have sim cards with phone service from Claro. Costs about 15-20 USD a month, comes with over 10 GBs of data, we never use of all it, and it works quite well when we need to do a hot spot.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  ปีที่แล้ว

      Within Bucaramanga and Floridablanca, we stuck to just using Uber. Since those two cities are connected, it's very available. Even getting over to Giron via Uber. - The cost was between 8,000 COP to 30,000 COP depending on distance and time of day.
      We generally try to avoid taxis.
      We took the buses from Bucaramanga to San Gil, then jumped on a different one from San Gil to Barichara. You kind of have to ask where the bus stations are. And there's so much travel between the cities that you will find regular schedules running every single day. I think each bus ride was about 12,000 COP.

      That's a fair statement. For expats and people coming from say, the US as we are, this is a very good price. Plus it's likely a mark up in price for the actual apartment due to it being an Airbnb listing (which includes furnishing). Airbnb's are typically close to double in price for what they would actually rent for in normal cases. My guess is an apartment like this would be closer to $300.00 USD.

      Nice! - I miss Dallas and White Rock Lake, no lie... Being cognizant of crime anywhere you go in Colombia is a real thing. So walking in the street or going to public parks you really don't want to take your phone with you if possible and or just keep it hidden. - Although Bucaramanage has several public parks, most of them consistently have homeless. I also noticed lots of Venezuelans in some parts as this city is closer to that country. - However, in malls and public spaces like Santisimo that require entrance fees, you're going to be very safe. So it all depends on what you're looking for... In regard to dogs, I haven't seen any violent ones and I actually don't recall many in Bucaramanage. So I think the dog thing is less of concern. - Feel free to comment here if you have more questions or reach out to us @lifetheorycouple on Instagram.

      In terms of Party, Bucaramanaga doesn't really party that hard, nothing like Medellin. And it's big enough that you can live far enough away from the "party area".

    Very nice and informative video! Personally, I don't recommend Giron. An unkempt village with a lot of noise and heavy traffic in every street. It cannot stand the comparison with touristic places such as Salento or Guatapé. It was a big disappointment for me

      We can totally see what you mean about Giron. There are definitely better small towns to visit.

    How were the Internet speeds?

      The internet is good. Newer buildings have fiber optic... Most Airbnbs we've been in have 30-50 mbs download speed. If you're going to rent or Airbnb... I'd make it a point to ask about speeds first... When we were in Cali, we were in an Airbnb for a month with barely 5mbs download speed... That actually almost killed us.

      Thank you for the view! - Bucaramanga and the Santander department are great. I highly recommend checking everything out in this video and seeing what else there is to offer. San Gil is great if you want to do more extreme activities.
