Oingo Boingo's Minnie the Moocher

- Cab Calloway's jazz hit "Minnie the Moocher" was used as the soundtrack for an extremely surreal Betty Boop cartoon in 1932. The cartoon and song became an inspiration for the young Danny Elfman. He performed it on stage with the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo (later just Oingo Boingo), rewrote the lyrics as "Squeezit the Moocher" for his role as Satan in "The Forbidden Zone", and it was clearly a strong influence on Oogie Boogie's song in "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
Here I've brought things full circle and resynched the original Minnie cartoon to Danny performing the song. Obviously there are some differences in speed and lyrics between the two versions, so the lip synch isn't exact.
Danny Elfman's voice gives me the chills..
me too..
as does looking at him.
aghh danny's voice is so aghhh
right AUGHFHGHFHGUF
FUN FACT: In _The Nightmare Before Christmas_, there's a deleted part from Oogie Boogie's song, called the "Shadow Dance." It's basically twenty seconds of a cel-animated Oogie silhouette dancing against a psychedelic spiral background, and it was cut for pacing, though it IS present on the DVD as an extra.Almost all of the shadow's moves come from the big walrus in the "Minnie the Moocher" cartoon.
I KNEW I wasn't dreaming when I saw the movie as a child, I k n e w something was missing later on
@@redsiren9354 If you listen to the soundtrack, that extended bridge is included. Right after Oogie says he's "gonna do the best (he) can."
- Which is also a Betty Boop/Cab Calloway reference, btw.
This really showcases Danny's amazing voice and range.
The rotoscoping on that dancing ghost walrus is absolutely horrifying. I'm still weirdly fascinated by it, though.
How do you about the rotoscoping animation in American Pop, Heavy metal’s Taarna story, fire and ice, waking life, scanner darkly, roger rabbit Jessica scenes and Undone?
what kills me is, they must've rotoscoped over Cab. For someone who was suaver than suave in the day, he was legitimately a living cartoon character.
Danny Elfman's voice is amazing, especially with this kind of music. I wish more Mystic Knights content existed out there!
I heard they were the best live!
have you seen their gong show appearance yet?
I miss Oingo Boingo.................
Danny's voice. Sigh...
@I'm unsubscribing. wut?
@I'm unsubscribing. kek edgelord on a fuckin oingo boingo video
Other comment: a polite and professional compliment of Danny Elfman's vocal ability

Hootchie-cootcher. It was a type of dance/ dancer in the early 20th century that was considered very provocative.
I love how Jack’s singing voice actor is singing the song that was the inspiration for Oogie’s song. It cracks me up.
Well, he also composed the movie score. There's a track of him singing the oogie boogie song too
Jack's singing voice actor and main actor are the same!
Chris Sarandon is Jack’s speaking voice, Danny Elfman is Jack’s singing voice.
@@trashleader i saw that. i still think ken rocks it better
@@abcdedeflimsinc.3226 nope. danny is the singing voice. Chris Sarandon did the speaking
Pretty groovy for a song that dates all the way back to the 30s.
Cab Calloway was so amazing.
the audio is from oingo boingo performing it in 1990 from their haloween concert. you can watch that on youtube too
beautiful voice!!!!
Some of this was in Forbidden Zone. Directed by Richard Elfman. (Danny's older brother) Squeezit To The Rescue. The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo were also in the movie.
What a great job! What you did is clearly near perfection. Atmosphere is PERFECTLY synched!
I love the song Squeezit the Moocher by Danny Elfman
its unbelievable!
He did another one when he was with the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. They did an underground film called Forbidden Zone. It should still be on TH-cam.
What a treasure.
wow I’ve heard the forbidden zone version so many times but never this one. so fukin good
This is some top 20 of all time shit right here
I like this better than the Cab Calloway version

Folks, here's a story 'bout Minnie the Moocher
She was a red-hot hoochie-coocher
She was the roughest, toughest frail
But Minnie had a heart as big as a whale
Hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi (hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi)
Whoa-a-a-a-ah (whoa-a-a-a-ah)
Hee-dee-hee-dee-hee-dee-hee (hee-dee-hee-dee-hee-dee-hee)
He-e-e-e-e-e-e-y (he-e-e-e-e-e-e-y)
She messed around with a bloke named Smokey
She loved him though was cokey
He took her down to Chinatown
And he showed her how to kick the gong around
Hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi (hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi)
Whoa-a-a-a-ah (whoa-a-a-a-ah)
He-e-e-e-e-e-e-y (he-e-e-e-e-e-e-y)
Oh-oh-oh-oh (oh-oh-oh-oh)
She had a dream about the King of Sweden
He gave her things that she was needin'
He gave her a home built of gold and steel
A diamond car with a p-la-ti-num wheel
Hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi (hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi)
Ho-dee-ho-dee-ho-dee ho (ho-dee-ho-dee-ho-dee ho)
Skip-de-diddly-skip-de-diddly-diddly-oh (skip-de-diddly-skip-de-diddly-diddly-oh)
Bour'rrigy-bour'rrigy-bour'rrigy-oh (bour'rrigy-bour'rrigy-bour'rrigy-oh)
He gave her his townhouse and his racing horses
Each meal she ate was a dozen courses
She had a million dollars worth of nickels and dimes
She sat around and counted them all a million times
Hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi (hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi)
Whoa-a-a-a-ah (whoa-a-a-a-ah)
He-e-e-e-e-e-e-y (he-e-e-e-e-e-e-y)
Whoa-a-a-a-ah (whoa-a-a-a-ah)
Poor Min, poor Min, poor Min
Brilliant!!!
