The first blues harp solo I ever heard was John with the Lovin Spoonful, "Night Owl Blues" and been a fan of his over 50 years. Found Annie more recently and so admire her! Such a great blessing to stumble upon this. Thank you both!
Two absolute masters of the instrument! My introduction to blues harp was through John's "Nite Owl Blues" when he was with the Spoonful 50+ years ago. And Annie has so much soul in her playing.
yep, learnt night owl blues when I was a youngsta...on tape... months of rewinding ...play...fast forwarding...play. Its played on a D harp. Still one of the best harp songs I've ever heard.
My too, Night Owl Blues, impressed a 15 year old boy and I loved blues harp ever since. Yes over 50 years now. So good to see John thriving. Annie is amazing.
Oh yes, Ian..You are so right. Not only do they complement each other, they know each other's licks and respect each other!! Wonderful. I don't know How I came to find this gem, bu I am so greatful that I did..Thanks to a remarkable John Sebastian and a wonderful Annie Raines (rip apparently)...Many thanks or uploading!!!)
Some say ‘In the image and likeness of’…. man and woman…musically playing being whatever you choose to name god….leaves this man feeling like they do being what I’ve gratefully lived and learnt of! Tu meke (so good) people. Kia ora (be well) 🌏💜
Don’t mind the negative comments (or the bad grammar). Harp isn’t disrespectful, it’s one of the earliest names for the instrument (mouth harp). I have heard or read most of the old blues players, as well as modern masters, call it a harp. Electric guitars have been called ‘axes’ for decades, it’s just a nick name, the same as a car is called ‘wheels’. I play both instruments and don’t mind either name, as per my musician friends. 😃✌️
plain and simple this is music you can sink your teeth into . . . . an abundance of heart and soul and i agree with cairns70 we need more of this , thanks and blessings to john annie for keeping the flame alive !
Wow. I just looked around a bit. And. Since I found this it is with me every 2nd or 3rd day. Sure it will stop sometimes... But I enjoy it so much. Thank you for giving this to all of us. Silvio
Oh my!!! I never knew a harp could sing!! Wailin' and singin''..I wish I had this video on an endless loop..just wonderful. Miss you Annie... Thank you both. Absolutely Sublime!!!!
C’est par ´harmonica que j’ai compris que j’étais musicienne mes amis prenez plusieurs instruments ça marche aussi que dieu vous bénisse dans vos choix andree je vous aime
No offense to Annie, but Gussow has 2 million on Crossroads blues (and that was after a takedown cost him something like 10 million views.) Both great players. I keep hoping to see Annie Raines live. She lives over near my aunt and uncle. I missed her once when she was playing in town. I didn't know about the show. I was literally in the bar across the street playing harmonica at an open mic. I am in some of the same harmonica internet groups with her so I commented that I'd just missed her, and she mentioned an entirely different show. I guess she'd played in my area twice and I'd missed them both. A friend of mine asked me if there were any good venues in my area... he was asking for Dennis Gruenling. The venues I knew didn't work out and I didn't hear anything more until Dennis posted he was going on stage about half an hour from me, in 5 minutes. The harmonica community needs to get a better community calendar.
Annie Annie Annie...where on earth was I??? You were bloody magnificent!!..And, John ..... you play like no one I've ever heard...I think I'm in love..
Just found my grandpa's harmonica and looked up what pros can do on it. The way she plays her harmonica is so sensual! I just fell in love with her and the instrument ❤
I could listen to this over and over every day and not get sick of hearing it. I wish I could get the two parts tabs and a cd with more music like this on it.
What a great job, both of you. That piece was very emotional for me. I just have to find the tabs to this, it's great. Took me a long time to come across it but so glad I did.
This is truly beautiful. In my mind I was on a sailboat cutting through a gentle breeze with dolphins in our wake right in the middle of 10 big magnificant sunsets and a full moon both at the same time
Wish I can give a thumbs up every time I see this...
