Thanks. I have been struggling with my new SDS100 for 3 days off and on. Reading manual, following discussions on radioreference, looking at videos. Yours is the first youtube video that was concise, clear on teaching me the process of adding systems from the RR database, adding to favorites and setting quick keys. I knew it could not that freaking difficult. But it was until I followed your video. You took your time on the process and made it very clear. Many thanks. PS: the SDS100 isn't your dad's scanner you dusted off from years in the attic.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I ran into the same problems you did... the manual was useless and most other videos out there moved too fast or were too complicated for a novice like me, so I decided to break it down and present the topics in ways I wished others had done for me. I'm glad my videos are helpful!
@@ResearchReviews you? Are the only one" who take the time to explain what the process is..and that is very important for us to understand how to work this.. thats what helped me purchase this scanner! You made it fun and fundamental!
Thank you so much for the video. It made adding a FLQK easy. I have 176 FLs and have been toggling them on and off from the menu. Now I have made FLQKs for six of my most used FL and can use the keypad to turn them on and off. It will save me wear and tear on my scroll knob. If I find that I use another FL I will add it to the FLQK. I am keeping the FLQK short so I can remember them and not have to resort to a list. Thanks again!
Andrew...great video. Been avoiding learning through the manual. Found yours made this such an easy operation. Tell us please, how to assign Quick Keys to the "SYSTEMS" and "DEPARTMENTS" [and to turn them off] as well. Lastly, how to assign QK's [and to turn them off] to the many systems/departments in the individual favorites lists. Many thanks for taking the time to respond!
Hi Joaquin, I've never tried assigning quick keys to SO's and DOs, and my understanding is that you can't. I haven't found any information to the contrary. As for assigning quick keys within a favorite... I haven't done that either, but I did do some research, and apparently it is possible. The process I turned up is below... I haven't tested it personally, but this is what I was told: Yes, you can assign quick keys to individual departments within the same favorite list on the Uniden SDS100 scanner. This allows you to quickly enable or disable specific departments without affecting the entire favorite list. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it: 1. **Access the Menu:** - Press the **Menu** button on your SDS100. 2. **Select Favorites Lists:** - Navigate to **Manage Favorites** and select the favorite list where you want to assign quick keys to departments. 3. **Edit the Favorite List:** - Choose **Review/Edit System** to access the systems within the favorite list. 4. **Select the System:** - Select the system containing the departments you want to assign quick keys to. 5. **Access Department Settings:** - Choose **Edit Department** to view the list of departments within the system. 6. **Assign Quick Keys:** - Select the department you want to assign a quick key to. - Navigate to **Set Quick Key** and assign a quick key number (0-99) to the department. 7. **Repeat for Other Departments:** - If you have multiple departments, repeat the above steps to assign quick keys to each one as needed. 8. **Save and Exit:** - Once you have assigned quick keys to all desired departments, exit the menu and ensure your changes are saved. **Using Quick Keys:** - To enable or disable a department, simply press the **quick key number** on the keypad followed by the **.No** (decimal point) key. For example: - If you assigned quick key 1 to a department, pressing `1.` will toggle the department on or off. This setup allows for efficient scanning and management of departments within a favorite list on your Uniden SDS100.

Great videos ! Appreciate you making these. I'm new to scanning and trying to educate myself one TH-cam video at a time, Your videos are done well and easy to follow for us noobs. Thanks
You are very welcome. When I first got my SDS100, I had lots of questions so as I figured things out, I made a new video. Be sure to check out A Boy And His Scanner... he has lots of good material too. Zip Scanners also has a lot of good educational stuff.
Thank you for the feedback. And yes... if you no longer want the quick key for your Favorite List, it's easy to turn off. Open up your menus, select Manage Favorites. Select the Favorite List you want to remove the quick key from. Scroll to Set Favorite List Quick Key. Scroll up to the dot above the "0". Select that and back out of your menus... quick key is now turned off. Hope this helps!
Thank you for the feedback... to turn off quick keys and return to normal scanning, press the menu button, select Set Scan Selection by pressing the vol/sq knob, klick the knob a second time to select Manage Quick Key Status, click the kbob again to select Favorites Quick Key. Then scroll down to the Quick keys you want to turn off and click the knob to toggle them off. Then all you have to do is assure the Favorites you want to scan are turned on and you'll be back to normal scanning. I hope this helps!
@@ResearchReviews excellent video on how to setup quick keys, but I'm still confused on how to turn them off and go back to scanning everything. I did what you mentioned above, but when I back out it tells me there is "nothing to scan". I verified that my System to scan is in fact set to ON under "select lists to monitor".
@@brandonh9106 Hi, you might double check under Select Service Types, that the service types used in your Favorites are turned on... that's what first pops up in my mind. I hope that helps!
Hey there... you're close by! If by "site hold" you mean how do you lock it on a channel rather than allowing it to scan, I just press the "Channel" Key. It's the third key along the top of the key pad... the three marked with dashes. Press it once to lock on the channel you want and press it again to release back to scan mode. You can do the same to lock onto specific systems or departments using the first and second top keys respectively. I hope I answered the right question!
awesome video btw i just subbed but what if you have a quick key set to say number 12 since i have 12 favorite lists on my sds100 how do i turn on or off quick key #12
Hi! I'm so glad the video was helpful. So, the solution to your question is actually easy. If you want to turn on the favorite for #12, press 1. You will see the one at the top of the screen. Next press 2. Now you will see 12 at the top of the screen. Now just click the rotary knob on the top of the scanner and quick key 12 will be active. To turn it off, just repeat the process. That should do it for you!
I set up my quick keys as described but when I back out to the main screen I do not see the lists that are scanning and have the option to scan certain ones. I have another Uniden scanner as well as a Whistler and it has never been a problem on those. Thank you.
Hi, I took a screen shot of my screen for clarification but unfortunately, I can't attach it here. I doublechecked the process and it does work on my SDS100. In the upper left portion of your screen you should see three lines: F0, S0 and D0. The quick key numbers you programmed should be listed on the top F0 line and flash as they are being scanned. If they are not there, I'd double check the quick key setup to verify it was done correctly. If there are no issues in the quick key setup, I can only guess an issue with the radio. Before giving up though, I would direct you to the TH-cam Channel "A Boy And His Scanner". He is very knowledgeable and may have an better way of troubleshooting your issue.
But I'm confused about beyond qk. I see up to 99, and then there is x.y. Systems under qk's are not settable by users? I am about to create more fav lists. Ideally I'd like to create two Groups within one favorite list both are the same topic, but I want a quicker way to disable half of a list. And they are not systems. Ok one is I want to break analog/non-trunked out so when I'm home, I can just let my old scanner deal with those frequencies. Same thing with the ham for weather. Expanded vs primary. And I've already got 9 quick keys used
Hey there... I'm not sure what you mean by "beyond qk". I fired up my SDS100 and found the numbers up to 99 but I didn't see anything looking like an x or y. You might have a question that's beyond me... which isn't hard to do. Maybe another viewer out there might have some useful guidance.
