Chris, Thank you for the video. I believe that the income you receive from the channel is yours to do with as you please. It's your innovation, enthusiasm and drive that makes the channel. We're so lucky to have you.
Hi Chris, I have been watching you since the very beginning of your TH-cam journey and have always enjoyed your videos and content. As for negative comments on your channel, I have had some too and don’t quite understand…if my channel is not for them then why not just click off and watch something else? I think sometimes people forget that there is an actual person with feelings behind the camera. I call them keyboard warriors, they think it’s their job to criticise and address issues but if it were face to face I’m sure they would not say those things. Hugs Chris, 99.9% of us here watching appreciate you 🙏🏻🥰
I enjoy your pen chats. I know I can turn you on and get ready for bed or washing dishes or tinkering around the house and it feels like I have a friend who likes pens and stuff over to keep me company. Keep doing what your doing Sis we’ve collectively got yo back! Thanks again for being you. Peace and blessing to you and your household.
Hi Chris- Great Pen Chat; thank you, as always! Your videos are always very positive and encouraging. Please know that they are very much appreciated. Best regards!
Thanks for a quick Pen Chat. Remember, you can’t please all the people all the time, but you can please some of us some of the time. That is good enough for your own opinion, and should be for others - these YT video’s aren’t a replacement for sound expert advice - we should remember that. Thanks for sharing . 😊
Yay ! A pen chat! My favorite rendez-vous on your channel ☕ About the mean comments : as you say, if you disagree with a video, you just click next! If anyone wants to spread their frustration or security advices, it's legit to delete or block them. Sharing your thoughts is precious (especially when you're not a rich white cis male) and useful to a majority of your followers 🙂
Life does get in the way of the hobby sometimes. I was recently hit by a car while walking and have a broken leg. I’m not able to walk so I can’t stand at the sink to clean pens and can’t carry things to the table to ink pens. I can ask my husband to help, but he’s already having to do everything around the house so my November pen routine is going to be much different when I figure it out! I saw that comment about intermittent fasting and thought it was wrong. You have never come across as someone who was telling others what to do, you’ve always shared your experiences. I appreciate you. Also,I need lots of videos to watch while I’m imobile!
Hi @FranM6179 -- oh I am so sorry you got hit by a car ... yikes! I am wishing you a very speedy recovery!!!! You will be so happy to get back to your pens and inks AND of course being able to do your normal activities. Oh gosh. I was just saying to my husband that if I ever have to walk anywhere in this city I am going to wear his orange vest. I just hear about too many pedestrian accidents. It's scary. I hope you heal up quickly!!!! :)
It’s way past time that I thank you for your pen chats, and reviews Chris. I enjoy your positive outlook on life, it’s this we all need more of in our lives. Shocked just outright shocked that you are not a doctor, lol. I didn’t think that you were advocating people go onto this diet, but were using it as a tool to explain how you changed your pen buying habits. FOMO is a deadly disease 🦠 that I’ve personally had to deal with, but that’s me now rambling. Thanks again.
Hi @Goldilockszone123 - thank you - I really appreciate your thoughts on this! LOL my niece calls me a doctor but I just read from my book the health insurance gave me years ago where it has questions and you answer them and follow the arrow as to when to treat at home and when to call a doctor and when to go to the ER ... ! It takes the panic out of things in many cases that are unclear. LOL I agree FOMO is a very harmful disease! Now I think we need to embrace JOMO - Joy of Missing Out! :)
I’m so glad that I discovered your channel. I’m able to concentrate on everything you speak about. I have severe anxiety, severe depression and a panic disorder. I can’t read nor watch TV anymore. Anyways, I guess this is my way of saying thank you!
I'm so glad you're here and believe me I understand about anxiety and depression (and for me ADHD) affecting what I can concentrate on so I know that joy when a You Tuber resonates with me so that I can listen and concentrate. It's rare for me to find those too. :) Thankfully, I can read still but it's hit or miss which ones I can finish/enjoy. :) I'm also affected in my driving and being a passenger these days so I have more work to do to bring the anxiety down.
@chrissaenz13 It’s turned into an agoraphobic. I went to cook something one day and had a severe anxiety attack just trying to turn on the burner. I can’t cook anymore. The list is endless. Anyway…. Another subject, I wanted so much to come back to this video. It made me so sad that you felt that you had to explain yourself about all your wonderful pens and inks. Be happy with them. I know you didn’t take them seriously and I admire that. They, like myself must be going through something, they chose to be mean about it. I chose to enjoy your happiness with you.
I love your channel! I also understand about letting mean comments get to you, even if it's just 1 in every 500. So to balance that out a bit, let me tell you how much I enjoy your channel. As a highly sensitive person and introvert with strong personal opinions, this is the time when I start to realize who thinks I'm an idiot because of my political opinions. I like people so much better when they don't discuss *specifics* of their politics, and I absolutely LOVE that you do this perfectly. Also as someone without hundreds of dollars of mad money to spend (like you), I appreciate how you review and work with affordable Chinese pens right alongside the more expensive mainstream pens without feeling the need to tear down the Chinese pens by calling them toys or "cheap plastic," insinuating that they'll break under normal use. I know I will always hear your honest opinion, and I appreciate that!
Hi @christadicken296 -- Thank you so much for this comment! I appreciate knowing your thoughts about affordable pens and opinions expressed ... ! And, oh my gosh I hear you about the political opinions -- I was just in a situation where accidentally someone I care about and I realized we don't share the same political opinion(s) .. and yet I realized quickly that we both had some broad and strong opinions that might look different (or be understood) if our reasons were discussed ... so I told the person one reason... one issue that affects me personally that drives a lot of my opinion. The look of surprise and the improvement of us being able to go on and talk and listen to each other was nice. At the end we concluded that we ought to be able in the USA to have our opinion and our vote without being enemies. It was interesting. (I said: yes, because we're family AND we're Americans!) I also walked away thinking about the other persons ideas in a new light realizing how much we all (and especially our elected representatives) could benefit from working together to solve things.
I really enjoy your video chats whatever the topic 😊 it really is like having a cup of coffee with a friend. I'm not a big reader, but I still enjoy hearing about what you are reading and other interests too.
Thanks Chris! Always enjoy your videos. I wish I was as diligent in journaling as you appear to be. After "rightsizing" my journal supplies to what I thought was a several year supply, I've now concluded I have a several lifetime supply. Time to start writing!!
Hi Mike! I write everyday -- often I'm not impressed with the words I write but journaling (for me) just helps clarify where my focus is whether positive or negative and allows me to say anything ... during a time when there are not many people I feel I can "say anything to" lol. :) Every once in awhile I'll read back over something I wrote that really is profound but this is rare. :)
Hi Chris. I saw your video about the Baronfig cards the other day and purchased them already. Just wanted to let you know I love them. So glad I bought three stacks. Currently I am using them to list Netflix videos I want to watch, books I want to read, and websites I want to go to when I come across them from other sources. And I don’t displace them like I do slips of paper. Great tip!
This was another wonderful pen chat. To truly embrace the Constitution & the 1st Amendment everybody has to be allowed to speak even those we disagree with. But by the same token, everyone has the right to not listen!! Okay, enough of that. This year I decided to get the Inkvent, and I had pre-ordered it from Atlas Stationers. It had arrived and is now sitting next to my desk - there's no hurry! An update on my adventures or mis-adventures with trying to recreate a Serendipity dip pen. I had succeeded with the one & have since created a second one. Those I used a wooden nib holder, but I wanted one in Acrylic. Well I got an inexpensive resin nib holder from Osprey Pens - Let's just say they just don't have enough material at the nib end to allow for modification!! Everyone knows (or should), failure is a valuable teacher & failing is a teaching moment. For my next one, I'm thinking of trying to modify an Ebonite holder. I'll see how that goes. I only have one new acquisition on the way instead of the 2 or 3. This time I'm getting the Kanwrite Mammoth X with the large #9 nib. Big pens are not for everyone, but I rather like them. Have a great weekend!!
Hi Zeus -- oh cool your Inkvent is in the house -- awesome! I have several nib holders that just a nib can go in but I do like the concept and how nicely the Serendipity works because of the feed and the little reservoir. :)
I'm still on my pen buying ban, but I've recently been gifted two pens! Rosamunde Pilcher has the best cozy winter book; Winter Solstice. Do you like fantasy? Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword is my all time favorite fantasy book; except for Tolkien's works. The Blue Sword is the book I go to when I need a comfort read. About two weeks ago, I put away all my summer clothes, and organized my winter wardrobe. I was all set...and it's been high 70's every afternoon.
Hi Teresa - thank you so much for the book recommendations! I will enjoy checking those out! :) Oh.... lol .... I never put away my summer things completely because South Texas is so weird ... but the past several fall/winter seasons were much cooler. I have yet to even need sleeves. :)
Chris, ignore the negative comments. You must remember that there is a large group of people in the world who live their lives constantly on edge, just waiting to be offended, and another large group who live their lives looking for opportunities to demonstrate what they consider their vast intelligence, at least in their minds. OK, now the real reason for this Comment, which I have been waiting to post for a while. I had already been feeling kind of outdone with myself for what I felt like was out-of-control purchasing of pens when I saw your video in late June about your pen fast. I decided then and there to start July 1 and try not to purchase a pen until at least September 30. I did it! Thank you for that inspiration to do something I needed to do anyway. As a side benefit, it has also gotten me out of the habit of scrolling AliExpress and eBay several times a day! I had decided that I would allow myself one pen purchase per quarter. Of course, 10 days into October I was already a quarter ahead, having bought two vintage-ish pens I had been wanting that both were on eBay at the best prices I had seen. That's OK. I am already back in the right headspace. I have decided to enjoy my pens by declaring the family fountain pen and ink lending library, supply depot, and maintenance department. Two grown daughters and one of my teenage granddaughter are really interested in fountain pens so they know they do not need to buy any pens or ink. Since I have pens in pretty much all shapes and sizes, as well as a pretty decent selection of inks, they can try something of mine any time. We were already doing a de facto rotation system anyway. They love it since they have easy access to a good number of pens to try without worrying about storage or maintenance, and I feel better that my/our pens are getting more love. I have to be careful, though, not to slip into a mindset where I relax on pen buying because "It's not for me; it's for US." 😱 Thank you for all you do for us!
Nice chat! And intermittent fasting is beneficial for many medical issues. To my knowledge, it has been proven to be useful in many peer reviewed studies.
I think that if that person was truly concerned for your health they would have worded their comment in a less condescending way. As for pen&ink, I'm going to end this year on a real win! Only one pen purchased, and it's a replacement for one I sadly dropped and broke. I refilled my almost finished three favourite inks and started a new Leuchtturm A5. The only fully new item was a bottle of the new Pilot Syun-Gyo, and that was an easy purchase because I'd been so good about purchases all year. Ty to everyone who's been staying minimal this year, it's great reading your comments about your journeys :)
Wow that's great ... only one pen purchased this year! I've purchased 2 - the Benu Pink Champagne and the Purple Moonman Mini. I don't count the one my husband purchased for my birthday/Christmas under my own personal spending. LOL I'm at 3 bottles of ink. I do not expect to purchase any more pens or inks this year. My one strong desire is for a Rickshaw Fillmore Pen Case but that will depend upon my final 2 months budget when I get the ad $. :) Next year will likely be another very very low (even lower) buy year for me. We have some income uncertainty.
Thank you for the pen chats, Chris. I really enjoy watching them. My pen desk are my thighs. There is not enough room for a writing/laptop surface at present. Nov. 1st is National Fountain Pen Day. Retailers may have some pretty good sales on pens and stationary items.
Hi Tom ... you made me think of the lap desk my Mom had from I think Levenger ... it was nice and big and had some straps to hold paper etc. She could do full study and writing on that .... I think she had a much cheaper one before that and that was just as useful. :)
As a fellow TH-camr it always amazes me how much some of those comments hurt. Even if -as you mention- it is one comment out of many, but the bad ones stick. I have decided for myself that I will not tolerate people who think it is their right to voice whatever mean thing they have to say. They don't deserve my time and energy that I spend mulling. And therefore I have blocked (or hidden) several people since I started to implement this protective measure. Keep being you!
I'm quickly realizing that this is the best way. After I did this video I started remembering how quickly I used to block and delete hateful comments. I think lately I've become far too worried about where the line of decency is. If I'm affected by a comment others that come here for a break and to enjoy the hobby may be too. Thank you - I love hearing the perspective of another You Tuber!!!! :)
I personally don't hold with intermittent fasting, so I just... don't do it, you know? Also, I felt it was fairly clear that you were only sharing your own experiences with the practice as another part of your daily life, not promoting it to others, which would indeed warrant a rebuke. If you need a truly wholesome palate cleanser, Foxgloves and Hedgehog Days by Daniel Blajan is a sweet little book, worth hunting up.
Hi @StaticCling99 I was thinking about it (my talking about intermittent fasting) and realized that my enthusiasm and excitement about things MUST at times come across like rampant promotion so I am going to do better about giving the clear context up front and hope that will help. The one comment was NOT the only negative feed back I've gotten because of speaking about IF. Anyway, all experience is learning experience for me. :) Thanks for the book recommendation!
Hello Chris, interesting video as ever. I am sorry that you have been upset by unkind comments. I don’t understand why people bother to make rude comments but it takes all sorts. We are grown ups so can make decisions for ourselves about the things we watch and read. 😊
Hi Anne -- I actually have learned a lot thru the experience of my reactions to comments. I learned I don't always really fully understand the intent and that sometimes this format of commenting and reacting lacks the full context .... among other things. I think if it happens again I'm not going to feel as upset. :)
I always enjoy your pen chat videos 👍. I guess videos don't always appeal to everyone, but as you say it's easy to stop watching and click onto another. After all, there are billions of videos on YT, so something to suit everyone. It's good to hear that you've not been bombarded with the really vile trolls that there are on YT. These people really ought to get a life, and stay off social media platforms. Giving Daisy her flea spot on is very easy. She comes to me willingly and stands there patiently whilst I administer it. It's the complete opposite though when it's time for her to have a haircut or her claws clipped....as soon as I get out the hair or nail clippers, she runs off and hides 😂. I'll have to check out author Mary Kubica. I'm currently reading a book by Robert Hughes (The Fatal Shore) which is about the history of convict transportations to Australia & Van Diemen's Land (now known as Tasmania). It's an interesting read, though the font size is rather small for my ageing eyes.
Hi Annie - awe that's great that Daisy cooperates for her flea drops. Coco lets me trim his nails but only if Manuel very securely holds him. :) He doesn't mind being brushed. Princess is completely wild and won't let me brush her and it's a tussle to get flea drops on her. :)
First of all: you do you and we thank you for that. But haters will hate. There're a lot of people who can't help but be mean. Just think of how miserable their lives are that they need to go online and beat on people left and right. Secondly, on books: have you tried Richard Osman's Thursday murder club series? It's nearly the only cozy mystery I've read and it's super fun. I've also heard great things about Agatha Raisin series by M.C. Beaton.
Agree, trust and verify anything you see on the internet. Do not believe everything you hear. You have earned a title of doctor of Philosophy and fountain penology. AND you play a doctor on the internet :):):):):):):)
LOL yeah it's kind of important I think for me to always remind folks these are my opinions only. I don't know some days ... Jack of all Trades/Master of None still seems more fitting! :)
I love your chats and the way you are so natural! Some videos feel so “put on “, with you i feel like I’m hearing from an old friend. Thank you for that.🙏 One comment that irks me is when people could be gentle in saying what they think but instead are mean and bullying! Yes we are all allowed to say our opinion, but if it could be said more carefully, there would be less “hurt” in the world. As for the fasting, anyone who takes you tube for “gospel “ is unaware! If i don’t agree or find a topic unacceptable,i move on, it’s not my job to convert the world to my views! When you first spoke of intermittent fasting, i had never heard of that but had been fluctuating wildly with my weight. Even my regular doctor was saying well you’re getting old, it happens… so i did my research, asked family members that i trust, and was surprised to hear that they ( family) had been doing it for over a year with success. So i started slowly and though I’m not as stringent as others , i have found a sweet spot where i feel good and my weight is stabilized. As for how many pens, inks etc that you have, it’s your money to spend as you please ! I always like the way you are always saying “ that’s my opinion” how “i feel”. During your book chats and more, you are constantly reminding us about spoilers, and prefacing your statements with warnings! If that person didn’t hear it were not paying attention!!! Now that i have gone on way too long, let me say - you are the most friendly ,conscientious youtuber ihave heard/seen in the years of you tube. Keep doing what you do, pens & inks ,book reviews &chats i love them all!👌👏🙂
Hi Ann-Ingrid thank you ... I appreciate your words here very much because I know you have been watching and commenting for a long time ... ! I think I need to get some of my confidence back I used to have ..... I distinctly remember several times early on when I blocked and deleted without any guilt comments that read (to me) as if they were plain mean and bullying. I want this to be a good place and free of drama. :)
No need to note that the Pen Chats aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, etc. These chats are great! Folks who aren’t interested will move along…. You do you
Amen!
Well ais!
Thank you! LOL I'm thinking about all the warning labels products contain these days and how laughable some of them are. :)
Chris, Thank you for the video.
I believe that the income you receive from the channel is yours to do with as you please. It's your innovation, enthusiasm and drive that makes the channel.
We're so lucky to have you.
Hi @raybuck thank you for the kind words! I feel extremely lucky and blessed to have all of you in this wonderful You Tube Fountain Pen community!

I have to say I'm riding that same wagon. There is nothing like Chris and her videos that puts life in a cheerful motion.
I bought that book about letter writing that you did a review on. Plan on gifting it to a friend!

I have to be careful, though, not to slip into a mindset where I relax on pen buying because "It's not for me; it's for US." 😱
Thank you for all you do for us!
Next year will likely be another very very low (even lower) buy year for me.
@@ChrisSaenz13 Thank you, Chris! I will have to check on it.
Hello. I go back and forth between mysteries and history, with an occasional side trip to literary classics and contemporary fiction. Reading is fun!
Hi @Calcprof - I agree and wonder also if I'd ever sleep without reading!
Yeah, everyone has their right to free speech but that doesn't mean there won't be consequences.
Thanks for the book recommendation!
Beaton.
Hi -- thank you for the book recommendations! :) Those are new authors (to me) which I'm glad to learn about!
My friend. I’m excited to hear from you!!! If I am not interested in the subject, I’ll skip around. We are adultish. Are you into murder mysteries?
I do like murder mysteries but it's funny how some of them just hit too hard I guess. Or maybe it's the times. :)
Thank you for that.🙏
One comment that irks me is when people could be gentle in saying what they think but instead are mean and bullying!
