It seems you are also influencing 2k kids to have work life balance. It doesnot mean freshers should compulsorily work beyond work time, if he wants to learn he can try working extra hrs. Since i wanted to learn , i worked late, i used to catch express trains ,travel an hr and reach home around to 12 midnight, i used to walk 1.5kms alone in the road. And the server father expectation is, he wants his son not to face any humiliation like faced.
Ex: in 90s my father worked as govt emp, since he donot converse in english, he was himiliated by his superiors, he was even transferred to long travel region. When my dad was sick, he was humiliated much to rejoin work. The superiors made my dad and mom to stand outside office for one week. Only people who faced such humiliations can understand.
My father gave me good education, i understood the work situation and worked beyond hours and now in decent position.

In Uk employees can work on terms but what you've committed you have to deliver.
Full time employee should do 9-5:30 timings which is not negotiable.
If you want reduced hours then you'll be part time employee with reduced hours and pay which has to be agreed with employer about timings.
