I was able to secure boarding group 11 the first day and 22 the 2nd (both were called while waiting for EPCOT to open to non resort guests). We are planning on going back to Magic Kingdom this year. And I’m wondering if you can go on the Tron over and over if there are no big lines at night. Because they make it seem so complicated to get on this particular ride.
Right now, you can only get on Tron if you have a Virtual Queue boarding group (one per regular day, and one per Extended Evening hours on certain days), or through a Lightning Lane purchase (one per day). So on most days the most you can ride it is 2 times with VQ and LL, and one more time on Extended Evening Hours days. This might change in the future (and I hope it does), but that's how it currently works with the Virtual Queue system.

That does make sense, and it’s a great question. If you have a date based ticket that doesn’t require reservations, then you don’t need a reservation to join the Virtual Queue at 7 am. So you could try for any of the Virtual Queue rides at 7 am: Tron, Guardians, or Tiana (once that opens next month). There’s a set amount of slots for the 7 am, and a set amount of slots for the 1 pm. So even if 7 am sells out quickly, there will always be availability at 1 pm as well. And usually the 1 pm slots last longer than the 7 am slots.
No one should have to play these games to go on a ride. I picture grandparents being told to “tap tap tap” refresh button at exactly one minute before 7:00 rapidly until you can join the virtual queue..this is RIDICULOUS!!!!!
If there’s an issue refreshing being slow, I believe that’s a connection issue. Either with the internet connection on your device or with Disney’s server having issues.
Like I said, it’s possible the connection issue was at the server end, so the server was slow to respond. The advice should still apply even with slow refreshes, as the whole point is to refresh as close to 7:00 and tap the Join button. Even if it refreshes slowly, your finger is still in the right spot. But thank you for bringing this to my attention, I’ll look into it more.

Great question! You should be able to use Rider Switch in this scenario. Go up to the entrance to the Virtual Queue and tell them you want to do Rider Switch. While one person rides, the other person watches the kids. Then after the first person is done with the ride, the second person can enter via the Lightning Lane for a shorter wait (essentially making it so your party doesn't have to do the entire Virtual Queue wait twice). I explain the system here, and it should work as long as both you and your wife have a boarding group: th-cam.com/video/wes0YDY2xKM/w-d-xo.html Even without rider switch, if you got to the attraction right after the boarding group is called, the other person should be able to still get on the ride (you can be up to 15 minutes late for the Boarding Group, and cast members will sometimes just let you in if you're even later than that). Depends on your cellular and your resort’s WiFi. Usually cell works better for me, but you can check each on Speedtest.net or just Google internet speed test.

So, I am testing before I go, and started tapping right before 1PM, but the refresh button never changed to the "loading". A few seconds later, I decided to try to refresh to pull and the page was refreshed. Since I was not in the park, it showed a red error message. But I felt tapping just wasn't working, and pulling down did. What do you think?? You just keep tapping, even even a few seconds have alteady passed??
Same here. As long as I kept rapidly tapping the Refresh button it would not change to the Join Virtual Queue. Getting a low number boarding group centers on knowing the EXACT millisecond atomic clock time (hint: it is not what your phone says). I have practiced my technique at home enough that I was able to get BG #1 on consecutive days for both TRON and Guardians when we were at WDW last fall. Trying to do that by the method used in this video would not have worked for me.

Tapping the Refresh button 0.5 seconds before 7:00am is the only way it changes to Join Virtual Queue on my phone. Google search Atomic Clock Time on your computer and refer to that EXACT time when doing this.
Right now, since both Tron and Guardians aren't brand new anymore, typically the afternoon opening has availability for longer. I've seen days where the 7 am opening sells out within minutes, while the 1 pm opening is available for hours. You do need to have already entered the attraction's park for the 1 pm opening, but since all day park hopping just came back earlier this month, that's easier to manage.
You can't join both the 7am and the 1pm Virtual Queue to go on the same ride twice in one day. You can only join the VQ once per ride per day. The exception is the 6pm queue for Extended Evening Hours - you can join that queue even if you joined the queue at 7 or at 1. You can join the Virtual Queue for multiple attractions per day. So you can join the 7 am Tron queue and the 1 pm Guardians queue. Just not the same ride twice during regular operating hours. If you really want to go on it multiple times, your best bet is buying Individual Lightning Lane in addition to using the Virtual Queue. Alternatively, if there's someone in your party who doesn't want to go on the ride, you could use their ticket to join the Virtual Queue as well and use their Magic Band to scan in.
Virtual Queue is too frustrating in so many ways. I'd rather stay in a regular line for hours and have the guarantee of going in the ride. Should this be the new way to go, several other attractions would have it. Seven Dwarves in MK don't even is available in Lightning Lane. VQ indeed is not the best way to go for visitors, specielly newcomers. WDW must review that in lightning speed.
I actually agree with a lot of this. I think Virtual Queue makes a lot of sense for when an attraction is brand new. It allows Disney to control the crowds and wait times for a ride while they are still working on perfecting operations. But it really should only be for a limited period of time, and I honestly don't know why Guardians still has Virtual Queue at this point.

Seems like they tuned this out, refresh button only actually works once in a while, even at 0700, it wouldn't refresh at all
