Meanwhile in Thailand, a dude barged into a police station with a knife, a cop just sit down and hear him out, convinced him to drop the knife and then offered him water.

My guess is that we're failing at literally every step. The murder alone would normally be enough to enrage the average American but the fact that the police officers involved are currently being protected with (at least at this current time) no guarantee that they will even face prosecution is insanity. I hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if this ends in another example of a murdering cop getting a slap on the wrist with an imaginary wet spaghetti noodle. I'm so angry right now. Moreso than I ever really remember being in my adult life.

I do live in this 'country' and I'm pissed off the system is failing so badly from top to bottom. Leadership is absent and when present it's almost always divisive. So the people rise up and maybe it will rock the world enough to make a difference for the lives of the oppressed. I don't feel oppressed, it doesn't touch me, I'm quite privileged, but I feel the oppression I keep witnessing on others who are not. As a fellow human I can not stand by without great criticism. This world is broken. I just want people to treat people with fairness. Protest and uprising is a symptom of leadership and participants in the system failing to provide equal protections to all our citizens. Fix it or get out.

And just because you are being choked doesn't mean that you can't get some air in just means you can't get enough in. 8 minutes of having someone's knee on your neck is definitely enough to kill them. Also we're gonna have to wait for the independent autopsy they are most likely trying to cover their ass.

    • @Aj-sn1dp

@first last The autopsy is bullshit and has been debunked by multiple doctors. It was funded by the state, the same state that was willing to cover it officers murdering and innocent man. No amount of underlying conditions will kill a person unless they've got a pig pressing down on their neck. Saying "I can't breath" doesn't not mean you are completely cut off from air. You sound like a damn idiot. Bystanders begged the cop to check his pulse and Thao did, he said he was dead. Chauvin then continued to kneel on him for 2+ minutes while Floyd laid in a pool of his piss and foamed at the mouth. He killed him. If you can't see that, then this is on YOU. This has been an issue for decades and has probably been reported in one form or another by every major national news outlet, from 60 Minutes to The Washington Post to Time Magazine, and by most news comedy shows such as Last Week Tonight. Though this was perhaps more powerfully presented than other such coverage, there's no reason to think that Hasan Minhaj has some peculiar foresight. Absent any meaningful changes, this was sure to happen again. It will happen again soon. And again and again.

After campaigning on shutting the borders not only did he not shut them when given the perfect excuse, he actively encouraged it's spread, so did Bojo in the UK, now both those western nations run by right wing scionist leaders who campaigned on isolationism are the worst hit, and thanks to Trumps trade war and Bojos Brexit both are headed straight into a situation of real Famine, last year 40% of the grain crop failed, this year they've already sold 70% of the expected yield, Russia and China are buying up their own rice and grain, and at plus 2 degrees we cant grow grain at scale. When planes were grounded on 911 avg temps across the US rose +2 degrees C.
The Georgia Holodomor happened in 33 under Stalin, at the same time Hitler rose to power and Churchill founded Saudi Arabia. 2021 will mark 33 years to the 1000th anniversary of the split of the Roman empire into two parts in 1054, and this year Saturn and Jupiter will conjoin in Aquarius much like they did in Bethlehem in 7 BC
Trumps second name is John, son of Fred Christ and Mary McKleod, he comes from Vienna Bavaria, capital of the Holy Roman Empire, just like Stalin, Tito, Trotsky, Hitler, Orwell, Freud, Boris Johnson, and Franz Ferdinand. Boris Johnsons great grandfather was Mustafa Ali Kamal, architect of the Armenian Holocaust, who sent Trump's Grandad Baron Von Drumph to America from Bavaria in 1922. Same year the British Scionist foundation published a memo declaring the New World Order will begin sept 17 2001 during Rosh Hashanah feast of trumpets, the year 6000 of the Great Pyramid Calendar" The 2000th anniversary of Christ's birth. America means Great Pyramid.
Remember when 3000 people died on 911 and they got you to spend $7 trillion over 20 years dropping 250,00 bombs on 20 million innocent people, burning 1100 a day alive, over half woman and children, and still *NOT ONE* of you can say why?

I actually graduated from a police academy, and I can testify that this is 100% true. I did not go on to become a law enforcement officer because I was Disturbed at the level of bias, conservatism, and just overall contempt for the community that I experienced while dating a law enforcement officer (he is now a deputy). Something to keep in mind is that, at least in my experience, there is a preference for veterans, and we all know what the military is trained to do.
in addition, there is a strong streak of conservatism that is not only encouraged but outright nurtured. Every police station television will be tuned to Fox news, Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Dinesh D'Souza are some of the only opinions these people are encouraged to consume. Despite evidence to the contrary, many law enforcement officers firmly believe that other races are more inherently criminal. They believe in bootstraps mentality, and reject the idea of systemic inequality, as well as painting other groups with a broad brush. most of the police officers I know are extremely unwelcoming of anyone who is not a white, straight, man. Women are considered to be either lesbians or sluts, and many of the officers I know resented them because they were believed to be less capable, and were therefore a liability.
I believe in the concept of policing by consent, and was constantly getting in trouble at the academy for not pulling my weapon "soon enough." I truly believe that police violence and gun violence are inextricably intertwined and that the only way to end police violence is to disarm the cops. Unfortunately, there are so many guns in America that it would not be possible to do that safely as the situation stands now.

    • @fandomguy8025

This is a dangerous situation in today's climate as Liberal and Conservative (alongside racial and otherwise culturally, pretty much a lot of things are losing their grey area, much like how politics has lost compromise) factions form and become culturally distinct and start wanting fights, and typically when one side "rules" you in a system you revolt. American could be teetering towards societal collapse. With the way people are becoming less trusting, tolerant, more partisan and more paranoid, and with the complexity of the problems in ALL areas, if there isn't an opening for solutions I fear one day, some social scientists predict in the decade of the 2020s, we will wake up, turn on our tv, and hear: th-cam.com/video/att5VrJhApA/w-d-xo.html
Only so much stress a system can take, social scientists like Peter Turchin who analyze historical chaos believe the 2020s are going to be, best case, an unstable decade for America. evonomics.com/science-predicting-rise-fall-societies-turchin/ Due to many factors, that, depending on how they intermingle, can take us to very ugly places.
Or they may lead to something small and actual changes, or change can occur just in time to save us nothing is assured, this is multi-path forecasting like he weather, but like the weather some patterns can tell us what to expect and the paths change, some opportunities are lost, with the degree of chaos we're already seeing, I don't know myself about hope sometimes.
A society cannot function without fairness, as long as someone is getting stiffed or believes they are, we cannot maintain a cohesive society.

    • @fandomguy8025
      @fandomguy8025 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Things here are complex, problems emergent from many problems. And solutions all have a different mix of answers, but some may not like your solutions. And if they feel like their voices aren't being heard, they will revolt. One cannot impose such a rule, and people will have objections that need to be addressed, how can cops protect and defend without guns? "gun owner ship is a basic right!" Sometimes it's personal. This is the complexity in the gridlock we face where nothing is getting done in politics.

@DesertRat45 Uh, politics? As in "Conservative, regressive-right" views, which I thought would be obvious from the reference to Faux News. Even the guy with that baffling word salad who replied first seemed to get that part, even if the reply made zero sense. I'm not painting everyone with a broad brush, but homophobic/racist/sexist remarks were common and when called on it, they would give me the classic troll response:"It's funny because you get mad/It's just a joke/I'm not the racist, YOU are (for pointing out the racist comment).
I'm trying to engage with this comment in good faith, but it's pretty hard to believe you would ask that question had you actually read my original comment.

Question: How do news channels don't conduct in-depth investigations like this but a comedian has to go out his ways to tell the truth? I have deep respect for Hasan and John Oliver but oftentimes the naked truth they reveal is so hard to take that I no longer find it laughable.

simple because classical news agencies are controlled by a minor group of huge industries who are either controlled by republicans who are favorable to give excessive powers to police officers. The other reason is beacause a mjority of the news today is based on creating fuss about non controversial topics so to create drama and attract a bigger audience. News on the TV is basically a reality show not concrete reality.

NPR does. PBS does. Propublica does. Local stations sometimes do, too. But they take a while to produce and research, and the cost of making them isn't usually sustainable or affordable for smaller networks or publicly-owned networks to get behind. And they don't use comedy so much as they use footage and face-to-face interviews with venerated reporters conducting the questions, but they also can't lean into what they deem is partisan territory, so they pull punches and refuse to really appear too critical. Also they get smeared for "liberal bias" so nobody pays them any attention.

And being showered with Fox News and Alex Jones, which I think is enough to drive a human being insane.
And that‘s the problem: most people who would make thinking, respectful, open-minded cops probably can‘t stand working in a place where being prejudiced and violent-prone is a the norm. So the job is left to Fox News viewers.

Not all cops are bad, but if a system is broken and racism is bred in said system, then even good cops are tainted by implicit biases that have been culturally trained into them. This is no longer a question of bad individuals, but a question of finding systemic solutions for systemic biases. If you can train people to develop bad biases, you can also train people to counter and correct those biases - it is literally called Implicit Bias Training. Every industry should implement it as part of mandatory training to be an employee, and also to be acknowledged as a human being who can actually recognize other human beings.

One cop was lit on fire, another's finger was bitten off, and one was stabbed 3 times. So, when cops are out there trying to disperse crowds, you cant really blame them for being more aggressive on their tactics...in riot control in any other police agency, whether it be in the western world. It's far more aggressive, regardless how long the protests/riots have been. This is the same argument people have in the US, because who can blame them when cops can get a gun pulled on them in a matter of seconds. But, of course cops need to be held accountable, especially if there is a wrongdoing. I also need to add that you're saying police here in the US target minorities. Yes, that maybe true, but in a large crowds during a riot/protest. It's fair game, because it's hard to differentiate people in a large crowd on who's who and their job is disperse the crowd indiscriminately.

If a cop stops me and asks questions it's not about what I have in my backpack but rather what place has good coffee around town (I live in a small town and most our cops on patrol are from the neighbouring main city.) Once they are through their POST (Police Officer's Standardized Training) certification at the academy they spend their first year on patrol under the supervision of an FTO (Field Training Officer) - only then do they "graduate" to being a full fledged officer...

I served in the U.S Army for over 15 years and it seems to me that American Cops treat Black people the way that we reacted to suicide bombers in Afghanistan.
It's a combination of a racial basis mixed with being conditioned to not only seek to commit violence, but also to glorify violence.
American Cops do not serve and protect civilians, they simply treat civilians as if they're potential insurgents in a warzone. And what's really strange is that troops in a warzone actually have higher standards of policing and conduct than the U.S Police on American domestic soil.
The military does NOT have labor unions that try to cover-up misconduct for the service-members on the front lines; that's what happens when you file complaints against police officers. The only way to get away with bad conduct in the U.S Armed Forces is to have a whole lot of rank on your chest and by that time you're not directly interacting with civilians or low-ranking persons anyway. So getting away with crime and abuse of authority is not the norm in the military the way it is with American law enforcement culture.
The bottom-line is that Black Americans should not be getting treated like suicide bombers, and neither should any other kind of American civilian.

Valire Dramack. Your comment is powerful and in the wake of George Floyd's death, it makes even more sense. Your comparison of how cops in America treat black civilians like soldiers would treat suicide bombers in the Middle East explains why so many Black men routinely lose their lives. You hear so many white people say" if he had comply he would be alive", well George Floyd complied and he was still murdered, Philando Castile complied and was still murdered etc..etc...etc...
