I think the implication of the ending is that the things you've been pulling up aren't naturally occurring creatures at those depths, but that something about lowering test animals to those extreme depths and exposure to the pressure down there causes them to mutate somehow, and you've been studying their test animals to understand the procedure better, and now they want to use you as a guinea pig to see what effect the procedure has on a human. I think the name of the game also hints at that, with lowering things into the depths of the earth with extreme heat and pressure being analogous to forging, but it's carbon because they're doing it with living thing. (And also obviously being a play on the actual type of steel called carbon steel.)
I've not exactly watched the series, but isn't that *sort of* what happens in Made in Abyss? They test what happens when creatures (and humans) are lowered to this "Abyss" and subjected to its somehow unnatural... Pressure? Environment? Again, dunno the specifics, just seen a few clips.

The series itself is following a young girl trying to reach the bottom of the abyss. The entire abyss is an eldritch abomination designed to lure in humans, but it hasn’t been revealed why yet.

This looks like something they REALLY don't want to escape. When you have concrete walls this tight and very basic system. It's like if you're way of entering is a large concrete door that slams behind you in case anything goes wrong and it can't be opened again.

Unlike job horror of Chilla's Art which is more about outside things that can happen to you as you work somewhere, these ones are about stress of the process of the work being the horror. This title gives me a good idea for a horror game. Basically: your leg is stuck and there is a monster down the hallway coming towards you. You have a tranquilliser gun to make it fall asleep but it wakes up quickly. You basically have to then conserve your darts for as long as possible (deciding when the best time is to fire them) in hope of rescue.
I'd give the player something else to do besides shooting the monster. Otherwise all you'd have to do is shoot it again as soon as it wakes up. Like, maby in order to get rescued, you need to build something to send out a distress signal.
This developer continues to impress. It's such a distinct, bleak world and they get a lot out of relatively simple gameplay. It's enough to make you fear what you don't see, what you could never begin to understand.
I love the technically aspect of this developer's games. Hearing Manly mention Lobotomy Corporation brings back memories... I wonder if he ever completed the Library of Ruina playthrough on twitch

I don't know why I like this developer's games so much. These games plus the one with the submarine in the ocean of blood (of another developer) have something dark but also mesmerising to them.
_It's always science gone too far_ That's why there's supposed to be an ethical review of research. You don't just subject beings to different procedures "just to see what happens". Great short sci-fi horror. This developer, Mike Klubnika, nails that post--apocalyptic facility feeling of the hopeless mundane really well, with facilities having odd machines achieving bizarre outcomes. And really clever title - carbon-based lifeform, subjected to intense pressure... I don't think people make good saute pans.
I just love how whenever I think of a reference or a joke manly says it like 95% of the time right after I just wish he found more rpgmaker horror games though those are the best
I'm kinda wondering if this is all going to build up to a game where you have to mix and match these mechanics of managing these various machines, like you have to drill a hole into the pod before you can scan the lifeform, then drill a bigger hole to amnestisize it.
I thought so too, but to be fair David Szymanski has been a pretty prominent horror game developer for a while so it's not hard to claim that Dusk or another one of his works influenced the dev of this game.

There are actually a bunch of weird/horror Indie projects that have come out the past month that look interesting. Not sure if it fits your channel's content but Cultic and Scorn both just got released as well and you might wanna check them out if you haven't already. I'm not sure if it's annoying to get suggestions from fans or not, but there are actually a bunch of really interesting looking games coming out over the next few months that I just impulsively want to tell everyone about so they get more attention.
