Minus the crazy rain this city is amazing. I decided to journal my experience in nyc a week before this trip and it was totally worth it. I think capturing memories and reliving as the years past by is the best feeling which is exactly why I made this video. Also My favorite time of the year is here!!! and I’m so glad to be back 🤎

I’ve always taken traveling for granted because it was so normal for me and my family growing up. I also took the quiet suburbs where I grew up for granted. Now I’m building my own life in a city where I have fewer resources to enjoy either of those things right now and this part of my life is beautiful in its own way too. I’m glad you got to experience the magic of New York. Many people miss out on it in the process of trying to do to much.
I found myself frequently drifting off into a light sleep watching this; not at all for boredom but because it has such a high meditative quality, it lulls you into a state of tranquility. This is visceral but not like a harsh or grittiness, we sometimes forget visceral could also be soft, gentle. I could feel the light rain bouncingoff of pavement, the cool air. Amazing piece!!!!

Everything about this video is so good
i feel like i was meant to view this video in all the ways it spoke to me - the resonances are insane. i visited new york in september (left 4 days before you arrived) and had similar reflections - the checklist. then the stumbling. and everything that came with it. the seeing myself moving. the comfort in the connection and insignificance and witnessing. and overall all of the longing. i filmed it too and intended on making a film of it (i've been doing a bad job of keeping promises to myself). i met a guy there who i shared a small romance with and who urged me to watch past lives. in october i watched past lives by myself and it was also my first time by myself at a theatre. over the course of october, i learnt to walk away from longing and into experience. in november - last week - i started filming my home city in the quiet ways it reminded me of new york but with great overhanging differences of course. i had such similar realisations in the framing of aspirations and presence. my walk away from longing settled. and fittingly, a week ago, i started to take film and photography more seriously and finally created an inspiration folder and named it 'capture' - the final word of this piece.
if i had seen this video a week prior it wouldn't have resonated in the same way but every part of my story feels like it fit so neatly into yours. the resonances feel so profound and well-timed in my life, thank you for an authentic and beautiful documentation and for providing the momentum for my own recalibration

22nd September was my birthday, what a coincidence :) love the video, the story and the shots. I particularly like the narration this time, almost felt like I was being told a random plotline my father missed out on mentioning. I'd like to mention that I was as absorbed to the story as I would be in that scenario. The music just adds to everything as well.
