Portsmouth have signed Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan until the end of the season. Pompey boss John Mousinho is looking forward to Hayden's skills and leadership on and off the field. Good move for our Reggae Boyz player.
I think the midfield will improve by the June window with Hayden and apparently Lewis Baker situation being sorted out. For the future we have a number of young CDMs who hopefully will progress to a high level. My main concern is in the ST position as with Antonio out. We are now left with only one high quality ST in Nicholson. Would love to see Dujuan Richards back shortly and hopefully Kaheim Dixon can earn a spot in the Charlton first team. Along with Dajaune Brown and Malik Mothersille they have the best opportunity to develop into top strikers for us.
Jon Russell’s exclusion continues to be perplexing. I feel like so many others have gotten a few look, but Russell hasn't. In the Mexico game (2-2, Nations League is Azteca) he gave us a glimce of his potential and for some unknown reasons he hasn't played much since.
Get your facts. Hayden started his process before McClaren became the coach. I think you are shooting your load a bit too early. He will more than likely be going out on loan in January. Russell is not a CDM and if we are going to depend on League one level players to be mainstay in the team, as you put it, then we are screwed.
You don’t know if he’s going out on loan… depending on a player who’s constantly playing is far better Dan depending on a unfit player to deliver in the middle of the park…
I watched Russell today MG. He is now being used as an attacking player higher up the field for Barnsley. I hope McClaren wasn't watching. He missed an easy sitter and did a lot of walking. I now know why McClaren didn't call him. He doesn't play the role better than PaImer and some others we can chose from. He is too slow for my liking and don't shoot very well. I would choose Hayden or even Daniel Johnson over him, even if Hayden doesn't get a move and still playing with the U21. Our next game is in March MG. Maybe at the middle of February is good time to see where our players form stand. Pure foolishness MG. All those young lower league ballas old ballas Cousins, Welsh etc. can't help us more than Hayden could. Lets hope than he gets a move in the January windows and get some playing time.

Jordan Cousins is another player who deserves a lookin. He is a regular starter for Cambridge United and plays in the same league as Russell.
