The Grateful Dead first played at Rec Hall on May 8, 1979. The band was undergoing a bit of a transitional period then, as keyboardist Keith Godchaux recently left the band amid issues with drug use. Brent Mydland joined up with the group in late April of '79, which made this one of his first shows with the Dead YAAAY MOVE ME BRENTLY! 🫶🏽🌅💃👣💨🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸❤️⚡💙👍🏽💓✌🏼🥰Thank You Bryan Dearing & thank You Sarah for your channel and all the work you do to bring us DeadHeads the very bestAH⚡😍🥳🫠

Phish played the first concert ever at the "gnu" state college basketball arena 96, if memory serves opening with the star spangled banner. Camping on a ski slope that night, lots of kids fell down.
Slept out for this one. Saw JoePa comin' to work at 6 a.m. Almost got crushed as the doors opened. Crowd had incredible energy, got the band out early! They kicked it the next year, too.
I'm from State College, though born in 82...so a bit late to the show, but ive pretty much lived here the whole time otherwise; I have no idea how this show missed me! absolute burning shakedown opener, whew! looks like I'm in for a great evening. thanks to okie for all the best music a person could ever want.

Even though the band was going thru somewhat of a transitional period with Keith leaving and Brent comming aboard the boys are tight and sound like there enjoying playing as much as the crowd is diggin them!
I went to this show as non-student and I remember tickets were like $5.50. They came back the next year and tickets went up to $7.00. The end of an era, even for Mad Bombers.
Those were the days!!! I’m from north Jersey, I remember seeing the Dead , Jerry G Band and just too many shows to list at the Capitol theater in Passaic NJ and paying $8.00- $10.00 a ticket. Btw great venue, small maybe 2,200 people. It’s gone now, knocked it down for a couple small businesses and a parking lot. Wow the memories come flooding in.! I’m gettin old!✌🏻
@@bwanna23 Yes, I had to pay the non-student price, too. But being from NY, I was struck by how friendly these PA kids were. A really nice scene on a pretty, bucolic old campus far from the hubub of the city.

As i remember, tickets to this show were ridiculously cheap, like $4 for students.
