But that's the problem with always wanting to believe the best of people... They take advantage of you or just downright disappoint you. Harsh reality is... I’d take Aiden over Big in a heartbeat, but Carrie screwed that up like a sociopathic teenager. The only thing that redeemed Big for me was the movies, particularly the second one where he seemed to have finally matured. He was one of the most likable characters in that movie which is a testament to how awful it is.

I agree with the comment that said Carrie was Aidan's Big, she really was. She treated Aidan the way Big treated her. Aidan was a very sweet, nice and loving man who wanted to settle down. He liked the quiet country life, and he treated Carrie so good. She ran back to the man who kept treating her like crap, and never offered her any hint of commitment. In fact Big treated Carrie like the dirty little secret for the majority of their on again, off again relationship. In the end though, I think they chose the right partners because I think ultimately Carrie would have cheated on Aidan again. As, she almost cheated on Big in the movie, after she finally got what she thought she wanted the whole time, she still was not happy.

I’m so tired of people calling Big a bad boyfriend. Homeboy wanted boundaries and never established she was his girlfriend in the beginning. She got super obsessive and crazy about defining their “relationship”. If you watch the series back to back you start to understand why he tried to keep her crazy ass at a distance.
the dude pressured her into an affair, literally ignoring carrie's verbal rejections of his advances when they were in that elevator together. he'd consistently interfere with her life when she would date someone else because he's possessive. he's terrified of committing to her, but wants her on reserve for himself. boundaries or not, big was emotionally immature and is capable of some pretty morally abhorrent things.
The word is “self-sabotage”. There was no instance where Carrie could not put her big girl pants on and COMPLETELY tune him out of her life. She CONSENTED to an affair and to keep him in her life. He wanted boundaries and had reservations about the relationship and she did not respect that. She wanted it on her time and her pace and that is not how relationships function. I’m not going to say he wasn’t a douche at times and some of the things he did were shitty but it takes two people to tango. That is who he was and she desperately tried to change him into the type of boyfriend she wanted. Carrie is also a character who needed to mature. Carrie and Big are both interested in the push and pull and chase and drama in a relationship. That's what keeps them both interested. Aiden wears his heart on his sleeve and is just an uncomplicated guy who wants to love and be loved. He says what he means with no games and that was never right for Carrie.

I do love that you guys acknowledged that the way someone treats you isn't everything. It certainly is a big component of a healthy relationship, That often gets ignored. That the ability to talk to your partner and relate to them along with goals and values leads to a successful union. That's one reason I prefer big for Carrie is that they really balance one another out much more than her and Aidan. They provide for one another's needs more and are on the same level in terms of goals and interests, and yes it's a long and difficult road to get to a commitment but honestly, it works for them. They both had to grow to be together, and I am happy they did.
The idea of marrying Aidan repulsed Carrie. And they had nothing in common. He liked the country and she's a city girl. He wanted lots of kids, she didn't want kids. Their fundamental differences were always too much. He wanted Carrie to fit his mold of a partner - enjoying the countryside, being family oriented, taking care of his dog. He's a good man, just not for her in the long run. Aiden was attracted to her because she was unattainable. Carrie might have cared for Aiden in a way but she always held back. Aiden knew that and continued to mess with her. When he took her back he knew he was stupid to give her another chance but he did it anyways. I think he meant to use her to work off his anger then leave her broken hearted as she did him. But it didn’t work out like that and he got emotionally involved when she called him out on his punishing of her. When they saw each other in Abu Dhabi in the second movie, I get the feeling that Aiden would have left his wife if he really thought he had a third shot with Carrie. He was far from perfect. He was ready to cheat on his wife with Carrie and I wonder how further from a simple kiss he'd have been willing to go if she didn't stop him. He also came across as someone who was more in love with the idea of a family than anything else. Didn't Carrie meet him like a year after they broke up and he already had a baby? Nothing wrong with this obviously but he sure moved on quickly. And considering his wife was the same woman he cheated on it makes you think. He wanted to marry a version of Carrie that wasn't really her, he loved the idea of her more than anything.
Great list! I know I'm in the minority, but I'm so tired of people saying Carrie didn't "deserve" Aidan. He's a grown man, not a raise at a job. If he didn't want to take her back after she cheated, no one was forcing him. She never got over Big, so her heart was never really in that relationship, and if the spark's not there, you can't force it, believe me.

Anna Kornilova I have to disagree with “love” - at least in a mutual sense. I think Carrie has always been more into it than Big has been. But they’re both narcissists and deserve each other.
The last point is so important: Carrie and Aiden were too different in terms of what they liked and did. Carrie and Big on the other hand were on the same page with their lifestyle. While Aiden was a good boyfriend, haven’t we all been at a place where we just like who we like? Someone could be perfect but no perfect for you. The only issue was that Carrie played along knowing this, cheated on him and treated him horribly. I believe it’s important to have the maturity to know what it is you like and not get into a relationship if it’s not. I get you can grow to like a person but there are some fundamental similarities you must posses for anything to work and they started off with everything different.
As a small towner you're not wrong. People are nasty about Carrie. She has faults but that's the point of the show. She wasn't objectively wrong for not deep down wanting Aidan, just for leading him on because she thought she "should".
If Aidan had a fault it was that he was trying to change Carrie. He pestered her about her smoking. Then he got at her about her apartment and was going to change that.
That's because he didn't care about her. Aiden tried to change the smoking which is a negative trait and bad for you. You'd have to be a child (like Carrie) to consider someone toxic and wanting to change you for telling you they don't like smoking. It's not like smoking is a personality trait and if you consider it one you're probably a pretty boring person.
Aiden was the better boyfriend, by a milestone, but Carrie treated him like crap so she was better of with Big. As for me, i would want someone with Aiden’s personality, but with Big’s lifestyle.

Have to agree with the verdict. Aiden overall was definitely the better man than Big in general but not for Carrie. Carrie thrived on drama and dysfunction in her relationships and that’s exactly what she got from Big. Aiden was too normal and down-to-earth for her. Burger couldn’t handle Carrie being more successful than him and I never wondered so much what Carrie was doing with Alexandr Petrovsky as much as I wondered what he was doing with her.

The reason it worked with Mr. Big was because Carrie was not all about getting married & having children. Their friendship on the off-times had a lot of toxicity. The way SHE screams: "NO!" to Big in the street, the Lover of LOVE, yelling at BIG?!? *slow-clap* Also, as the "It's a sign!" friend, spotting the trouble w/ Aiden in Abu Dhabi (Dubai?) and being RIGHT?! *i just loved her.* i loved "If Harry's cheating, my first thought was..I can't Lose The NANNY!!!" 😂😂😂 Carrie & Aiden discussing that she still didn't have a diamond. *Or kids..* Genuinely happy for Aiden & Kathy & his kids.. The kiss was so..organic. The confession to Big & the black diamond at the end. i just loved it.
A guy you gotta chase IS hot because it never gets boring but with time it's only painful and it gets laughable when you're trying to turn him into the better guys you're always rejecting. So I'm gonna go controversial...I'd say agreeably that Big is by far the more suitable match for Carrie hands down, but it's not because he's "soooo selfish." Can we state the obvious here? Every man Carrie was seriously involved with tried to change her (Aiden, Berger & Alexander). All except Big. Yes, Big was a selfish asshole, but AT LEAST he accepted Carrie for who she was and loved her for what and who she was. Big never tried to change anything about her. Ironically, Carrie never tried to change anything about either Aiden, Berger or Alexander, but allowed them to manipulate her. Yet, Big was the only one she tried to change. She KNEW he couldn't make commitments; knew he didn't want marriage and yet she stayed and bitched when he only proved to her what she already knew. - Aiden wanted her to be a 'natural', simple, stay-at-home, non-smoking girl. So..NOT Carrie. -Berger wanted her to not be as talented as she was or (more aptly) more talented than he. So Not Carrie. -Alexander wanted her to subjugate her feelings and her career and HERSELF for his wants, needs and career. Again, so NOT Carrie. Each of those three relationships were IMO suffocating to her. Carrie's future had two ways to go: Unattached forever and loving it. Or ( despite all the 'girls' protests to the contrary, they all really wanted marriage) she could only have been w/Mr. Big. And THAT wouldn't have even occurred unless & until he finally realized what an asshole he'd been for wasting so much time and avoiding the obvious that Carrie was the only one he could feel comfortable with. I have to stand up for Mr Big. Aiden is a traditionel loving man who want kids and marridge. Mr Bigs lifestyle is completely different and there is nothing vrong with that. The only thing that redeemed Big for me was the movies, particularly the second one where he seemed to have finally matured. I agree with the comment that said Carrie was Aidan's Big, she really was. She treated Aidan the way Big treated her. Aidan was a very sweet, nice and loving man who wanted to settle down. He liked the quiet country life, and he treated Carrie so good. She ran back to the man who kept treating her like crap, and never offered her any hint of commitment. In fact Big treated Carrie like the dirty little secret for the majority of their on again, off again relationship. In the end though, I think they chose the right partners because I think ultimately Carrie would have cheated on Aidan again. As, she almost cheated on Big in the movie, after she finally got what she thought she wanted the whole time, she still was not happy.

I’m so tired of people calling Big a bad boyfriend. Homeboy wanted boundaries and never established she was his girlfriend in the beginning. She got super obsessive and crazy about defining their “relationship”. If you watch the series back to back you start to understand why he tried to keep her crazy ass at a distance.
the dude pressured her into an affair, literally ignoring carrie's verbal rejections of his advances when they were in that elevator together. he'd consistently interfere with her life when she would date someone else because he's possessive. he's terrified of committing to her, but wants her on reserve for himself. boundaries or not, big was emotionally immature and is capable of some pretty morally abhorrent things.
The word is “self-sabotage”. There was no instance where Carrie could not put her big girl pants on and COMPLETELY tune him out of her life. She CONSENTED to an affair and to keep him in her life. He wanted boundaries and had reservations about the relationship and she did not respect that. She wanted it on her time and her pace and that is not how relationships function. I’m not going to say he wasn’t a douche at times and some of the things he did were shitty but it takes two people to tango. That is who he was and she desperately tried to change him into the type of boyfriend she wanted.
Carrie is also a character who needed to mature. Aidan was willing to give her the attention she craved from Big AND let her meet his parents and she pushed him away constantly. Again SELF-SABOTAGE.

I do love that you guys acknowledged that the way someone treats you isn't everything. It certainly is a big component of a healthy relationship, That often gets ignored. That the ability to talk to your partner and relate to them along with goals and values leads to a successful union. That's one reason I prefer big for Carrie is that they really balance one another out much more than her and Aidan. They provide for one another's needs more and are on the same level in terms of goals and interests, and yes it's a long and difficult road to get to a commitment but honestly, it works for them. They both had to grow to be together, and I am happy they did.
The idea of marrying Aidan repulsed Carrie. And they had nothing in common. He liked the country and she's a city girl. He wanted lots of kids, she didn't want kids. Their fundamental differences were always too much. He wanted Carrie to fit his mold of a partner - enjoying the countryside, being family oriented, taking care of his dog. He's a good man, just not for her in the long run. Aiden was attracted to her because she was unattainable. Carrie might have cared for Aiden in a way but she always held back. Aiden knew that and continued to mess with her. When he took her back he knew he was stupid to give her another chance but he did it anyways. I think he meant to use her to work off his anger then leave her broken hearted as she did him. But it didn’t work out like that and he got emotionally involved when she called him out on his punishing of her. When they saw each other in Abu Dhabi in the second movie, I get the feeling that Aiden would have left his wife if he really thought he had a third shot with Carrie. He was far from perfect. He was ready to cheat on his wife with Carrie and I wonder how further from a simple kiss he'd have been willing to go if she didn't stop him. He also came across as someone who was more in love with the idea of a family than anything else. Didn't Carrie meet him like a year after they broke up and he already had a baby? Nothing wrong with this obviously but he sure moved on quickly. And considering his wife was the same woman he cheated on it makes you think. He wanted to marry a version of Carrie that wasn't really her, he loved the idea of her more than anything.

I believe it’s important to have the maturity to know what it is you like and not get into a relationship if it’s not. Have to agree with the verdict. Aiden overall was definitely the better man than Big in general but not for Carrie. Carrie thrived on drama and dysfunction in her relationships and that’s exactly what she got from Big. Aiden was too normal and down-to-earth for her. Burger couldn’t handle Carrie being more successful than him and I never wondered so much what Carrie was doing with Alexandr Petrovsky as much as I wondered what he was doing with her.

Can we state the obvious here? Every man Carrie was seriously involved with tried to change her (Aiden, Berger & Alexander). All except Big. Yes, Big was a selfish asshole, but AT LEAST he accepted Carrie for who she was and loved her for what and who she was. Big never tried to change anything about her.
Ironically, Carrie never tried to change anything about either Aiden, Berger or Alexander, but allowed them to manipulate her. Yet, Big was the only one she tried to change. She KNEW he couldn't make commitments; knew he didn't want marriage and yet she stayed and bitched when he only proved to her what she already knew.
- Aiden wanted her to be a 'natural', simple, stay-at-home, non-smoking girl. So..NOT Carrie.
-Berger wanted her to not be as talented as she was or (more aptly) more talented than he. So Not Carrie.
-Alexander wanted her to subjugate her feelings and her career and HERSELF for his wants, needs and career. Again, so NOT Carrie.
Each of those three relationships were IMO suffocating to her.
Carrie's future had two ways to go: Unattached forever and loving it. Or ( despite all the 'girls' protests to the contrary, they all really wanted marriage) she could only have been w/Mr. Big. Aidan may be predictable but he’s so loyal and everything he does comes from a place of love. Big may be ‘exciting’ but he’s also a narcissist who strings people along. I’d rather sit in a boat and enjoy the views than sit in a rollercoaster and wonder what’s around the bend 😂

Aidan wasn't always a great boyfriend. When they started their second relationship up, he was terrible toward her when Big called her house. And he seemed like he wanted to marry her to basically make himself sure of their relationship- which is the exact wrong reason to get married.

Aiden has done sooo much for Carrie things I didn’t mention on my other comment was he gave her a key to his apartment and when her laptop crashed; Aiden swooped in and brought her a new might I add a cute laptop with a handle and he said so she can “Carry” it like a purse. Like O...M...G!! What a boyfriend! Big? He didn’t give her anything and has done nothing for her. Oh wait, he did brought her a purse in a shape of a duck? Oh yea, that is soo carrie! A duck purse!! Lmfao. Big never gave her a key to his apartment. And when Carrie, on purpose; left some things at his place; he brought it back to her and acted as if she “forgot them”. And when she expressed her feelings to him about that; he had the nerve to say that “he has his space and she has hers” and “they’re together when they want to be and they’re separate when they want to be”’or something to that effect. Like wtf? This girl was suppose to be your gf and you act like she isn’t! Typical big! Carrie basically had to force him to act like a boyfriend! She never had to do that with Aiden! Carrie never ever had to question what she meant to Aiden. Not once did she EVER questioned or HAD to question his love for her!!! Yet she treated him like garbage, cheated on him with Big and broke aidens heart twice!! And she married big? Smh well Carrie and big deserved each other. Aiden deserved much better!!!
I have to stand up for Mr Big. Aiden is a traditionel loving man who want kids and marridge. Mr Bigs lifestyle is completely different and there is nothing vrong with that. Kids and marridge is not for everyone. And that does not make him a bad man. Carrie and Big have the same lifestyle and the same outlook on life. That makes them a great match. They are also great friends and have a lot in common. They share the same type of humor. Carrie is not a traditional woman. That doesnt make her bad
