  • The Barbarossa Brothers Oruç and Khizr were a formidable duo. They would both leave an equal impact on the Mediterranean sea long after their passing.

Yes. Hyradin Barbarossa was not a pirate but a privatir. He rose to the occasion & was gifted skilled to lead his fleet of privatir ships to defeat the mighty Spanish, Italian & Crusader military fleet ships with devastating effect with support of the powerful Ottoman Empire at its peak led by Sultan Sulaiman the Magnificent.

The Barbarossa Brothers were Muslims and of European descent, Aruj was just a merchant before the European Christians attacked his ship and killed his brother Ilyas, then took Aruj as a prisoner and tortured him for two years...After this, Aruj became a nightmare for the Spaniards and the Crusaders. Aruj spent the rest of his life fighting against the Crusaders in the sea and the coast, and also saved thousands of Muslims and Jews from the Inquisition in Spain. But the Western media will not mention this fact to you. The "Red-Haired Pirate" as Western media shows it to people who have no idea who this character is. Barbarossa was not a pirate but a captain. Trying to tarnish his image because of the defeats that afflicted Europe at his hand, which they are ashamed of it.

It may actually be a sort of pun based on the similarity between "Barba Rossa" and "barbarous" which probably means the same in Spanish as in Latin.

Btw as i know Barbarossa means ''Red Beard'' in Italian. He was known as Hızır '' Khidr'' Reis (Small ship captain) Hayreddin name also given to him from Suleiman The Magnificent which means ''Best of the faith''
According to his logbooks & notes he was really Turkish nationalist for his time too.

It's a pun...of course, a lot of barbarians (especially those of Norse and Celtic ancestry...and the Norse and the Celts both showed up in Turkey...there was even a part of Turkey that was called Galatea because it was inhabited by Gallic tribes, and Galicia in Spain). Barbarossa may have been of Norse or Celtic ancestry.

Jamieson, Alan G. (2013). Lords of the Sea: A History of the Barbary Corsairs. Canada: Reaktion Books. p. 59. ISBN 978-1861899460. Desperate to find some explanation for the sudden resurgence of Muslim sea power in the Mediterranean after centuries of Christian dominance, Christian commentators in the sixth century (and later) pointed to the supposed Christian roots of the greatest Barbary corsair commanders. It was a strange kind of comfort. The Barbarossas certainly had a Greek Christian mother, but it now seems certain their father was a Muslim Turk.

The Barbarossa parents were Orthodox Christians that reverted to Islam. Mother Greek and Albanian father.
Khizr was born in 1466[1] or around 1478[2] in the village Palaiokipos on the Ottoman island of Midilli (Lesbos) (now Greece), the son of Yakup Ağa, a converted Ottoman sipahi[3] of Albanian origin[1][4] from Giannitsa (Greece), and an Orthodox Christian Greek woman, named Katerina, from Mytilene (Lesbos).[5][6] His mother was a widow of an Orthodox priest.[3][4][7] His parents were married[5] and had two daughters and four sons: Ishak, Oruç, Khizr and Ilyas. Yakup took part in the Ottoman conquest of Lesbos in 1462 from the Genoese Gattilusio dynasty (who held the hereditary title of Lord of Lesbos between 1355 and 1462) and as a reward, was granted the fief of the Bonova village on the island. He became an established potter and purchased a boat to trade his products with. The four sons helped their father with his business, but not much is known about the daughters. At first Oruç helped with the boat, while Khizr helped with the pottery.

      BackgroundEdit
Khizr was born in 1466[1] or around 1478[2] in the village Palaiokipos on the Ottoman island of Midilli (Lesbos) (now Greece), the son of Yakup Ağa, a converted Ottoman sipahi[3] of Albanian origin[1][4] from Giannitsa (Greece), and an Orthodox Christian woman, named Katerina, from Mytilene (Lesbos).[5] His mother was a widow of an Orthodox priest.[3][4][6] His parents were married[5] and had two daughters and four sons: Ishak, Oruç, Khizr and Ilyas.

You mean he enslaved the European crusaders who practiced genocide and enslavement against Muslims and Africans...when you start oppressing people, don't complain and play the victim when your ass kicked. What Aruj did was a natural reaction against these psychopath crusader criminals.
France and Spain, still keeps the instruments of torture and the skulls of the Africans and Muslims in their museums.. that's exactly what serial killers and psychopaths do.
These European crusaders exterminated the Native Americans. The extermination of the inhabitants of an entire continent. Then you complain that Aruj kick their ass?
