the fact that I see so many-- mostly old-- comments praising Josh Peck for "moving on" and demonizing Drake Bell for "peaking/being obsessed with the show" just feels really off yk. Of course, after watching the documentary *Quiet on Set* and learning that this show was a coping mechanism it makes sense that Drake would want to go back. Hell, even I revisit shows that I used to cope with things that happened in my life. This show brought him comfort, and he had such a personal involvement with it that it's very near and dear to him. Typically I never comment on TH-cam because it will get lost in the sea of comments, but something in my gut made me feel compelled to just add my two cents. It irked me even though the comments are from 1-2 years ago. So what if he "peaked" on Drake and Josh? He's proud of a sitcom he was in. I would be hella proud of myself if I starred in a sitcom, or if I got famous because of an iconic show, or a theme song, or a book. Most child stars "fall off the face of the earth" after something that makes them famous, unless people really follow them closely after whatever they were in, or they get famous for something else. I'll admit, I didn't really think of Drake Bell even when I found out he voiced freakin' Spiderman. I'm not saying "Shame on you for forgetting him!!! >:(" because I've done the same thing. Feel free to call me wrong if I took those "Drake peaked on this show" comments as something that they aren't.
I see your comment AND agree! Drake Bell deserves so much better, but I’m glad he has lots of fans and support in Mexico. I hope he can feel the love and best wishes from a lot more people now that the documentary has exposed all the injustice he has faced.
i think people are misreading the reason why he’s “stuck in the past.” it’s money. (i am not including the quiet on set doc) drake has a decent music career and wanted to cash in on the nostalgia content and attention that comes from it. he gets more eyes on himself and his music, podcast revenue, and potentially a refreshed acting career with a reboot. we’ve seen other stars do it. yeah, maybe he misses the time where he was the cool guy that everyone envied, but isn’t it more likely, especially considering how traumatic that time in his life is, that he’s trying to help his bottom line? i don’t think it’s a bad thing necessarily. he’s welcome to do what he wants with his past if people are willing to watch/listen. hell, we’re watching 3 hour videos on it. but i think saying that it’s just his ego is because you don’t like him. which is fair, there is good reason to dislike him besides “he peaked.”
It's so interesting to see all of the clips of Drake talking about how much he loved and missed the show after it ended. It really comes off as a man that peaked and wants desperately to relive his glory days. Whereas with Josh, it seems like he sees D&J as a footnote in his career.
I kind of See it both ways, where you can also see it as drake treating it with respect because of HOw people fondly remember it, Where is Josh tries to act above it when in reality it’s not like turner and hooch or grandfathered were prestige television either.
i don’t agree with the glory days thing, Drake has debatably been more successful since then than Josh, genuinely the biggest stuff he’s done since is dobrik videos and his one off shows, neithers been huge it just seems like one person accepting he’s associated with the role and the other pretending Grandfathered was bigger than Drake and Josh
@@kobe9886 that's fair. I didn't mean to imply that Josh was more successful, just observing that he is noticeably less vocal about nostalgia for the show than Drake is
From a psychology standpoint, Josh's denial of ever having been Drake's friend is quite common. A childhood friend turns sour so the other party completely blocks out the relationship altogether.
It has nothing to do with psychology. Josh LIED about ever being friends with Drake to publicly distance himself from him. He wasn't denying it. He literally got caught lying about the last time they saw/spoke about each other. He didn't block out the friendship. He downplayed his association with a man who was caught talking online to an underage child.
@@DavidKen878 so part of my research for the part two Has been the fact the friendship ending does not seem to be rooted in any of the child predatory stuff. Like that would’ve been a legit reason, but it does not seem like that was the reason
It's kind of sad to see Drake's career timeline in this; he looks like someone who had so much promise as a teen. Knowing how he ends up is depressing.
@@vkmtvstudios criminal consequences aside, I think a lot of his redepmtion will have to come from Drake moving on from that era of his life. Josh has grown up, Drake can't seem to let go of what he considers his peak (and technically was his peak, as part of a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy).
Drake Bell will always want to do a reboot or be attached to the show. He was the quarterback dating the head cheerleader and Josh Peck was the over weight unhappy kid who had a glow up at the end of senior year. Understandably Josh wants to move on and spread his wings and has done so while Drake peaked on that show. With the guilty plea from Drake and being a kids show it might be better to not do a reboot or reunion.
Drake Bell was open to doing Josh’s proposed reboot, which would’ve parodied Drake’s real life peaking in that show. Drake just wasn’t cool with the depiction of Mexico. Can’t blame Josh for wanting nothing to do with Drake after the legal stuff though.
A revival series would have actually been good considering the ICarly revival is actually decent (although not perfect). However, that's pretty much off the table considering Drake was prosecuted for se×ting an underage girl and she said he also sexuality assaulted her.
I think everyone saying "drake peaked and josh moved on" while it is true to a certain degree but not completely accurate. They were child actors as outlined drake said they often would hang out after filming and they were almost like real brothers during the filming spending a good majority of their life together. Drake genuinely thought of josh as a really good friend and wants to have that same feeling of being as close as brothers meanwhile as shown josh looks back at the time as a bit negative. He was dealing with his own body issues and psychological issues on top of being swamped with the stressful life of being an actor. Drake is able to see the time spent on dnj as the golden era whereas josh views it as him awkwardly figuring himself out while trying to balance his career at the time.
I am braziliam and drake and josh is a HUGE thing here, anyone whos older than 14 now knows this show and when Drake came to Brasil was THE DEAL so I am very pleased that you have put braziliam's televesion moments that talked about the show, it's really conforting and in a place where we are almost never mentioned, makes me happy
Thank you so much! I'm no youtube algorithm darling, but cool people like @whangwhangwhang throw a lifeline every so often. I'm just glad you dug the vid!
To me Drake and Josh was the most realistic depiction of teenagers. Yes obviously there’s over exaggerating but episodes that consist of them sneaking into a night club with Fake IDs, Drake getting girls and them showing he’s got game, deeper episodes like when Josh stops caring about Drake and Drake sees how much he needs him and just a whole lot that made the show feel real and relatable. Especially when I was at the prime age for this when it aired it really was like watching a real family in the early-mid 2000s
Well, Dan Schneider is probably one of the most evil persons alive today. The things that happened on the set would have gotten every other person into jail.
I think this might need a continuation... The controversies, the child endangerment cases, the 'racist' reboot idea, Josh now denying he was ever Drake's friend... Things have gotten worse now!
@@vkmtvstudios Best of luck. I also adore how your video literally shows all the times they were friends and said so, yet Josh now comes out saying they never interacted outside the show. It's an extreme blatant lie.
@@iara0 i dont blame Josh for saying that, as sadly people will assume cause someone did bad things that anyone associated them was also doing those things or knew bout it. But people are really good at hiding things.
This video is something I didn’t know I needed to watch. Not many people are fans of long videos anymore, but I appreciate being able to put a video on and listen to it for a while. Well done!
@@BuddyHollyMallCop He never plead guilty to anything the girl accused him of, otherwise he'd be in prison. He just admitted to texting the girl but there was never proof of nudes or sexual comments and he claimed he stopped talking to her once he found out her age. The judge himself said the sexual interactions were bs lmao
I think the fact Nickelodeon sitcoms back then had zero publicity helped Drake and Josh age well enough that rewatching it doesn't feel agonizing to me, where something like Henry Danger or Victorious or even iCarly kind of creeps me out because - "oh, I know these people now..."
25:55 in 2024, Drake Parker's characterisation as promiscuous really feels a lot less palatable. Actually, it almost seems like a sick joke on the actor.
I see a lot of people say that Drake peaked during D&J and that's why he wants to return but other people want to move on, but I'm not sure that's wholly true. I see it more like that's when he was having the most fun, he played an exaggerated version of himself being brothers with a close friend in real life and basically grew up with his co-stars. Josh went from a chubby and dorky kid to a tall nerd who was also pretty popular. And then right as people are really starting to flourish in their roles and step away from what they used to be, everybody left. For them, they got experienced, moved on, and continued getting better. For him, he just wants to keep having that fun with people, and then he never got to hit the peak of the show, where everybody is at their best, and then *other* things happened and he'll never get that chance again. It's pretty brutal to watch your friends just move on when you felt like things were about to be better than ever. So rather than he peaked, that's just when he was having the most fun and happiest with his career. He's had other roles since then but he never got the same feeling as before which is why he likes it so much..........maybe. I'm not him so idk for sure but that's what I imagine it's partially like.
I think that's the most accurate way to describe Drake's feelings. It was a time when he was a REALLY BIG DEAL, and not just voice actor/bit player/straight to stream guy. I think Josh seems to be harboring unresolved feelings and Drake is like a symbol for the bad feelings from that time period.
Wholly agree. I don't think Drake is a "washed up has been" thinking of his yesteryears. I think he genuinely looks back at that time with such fondness because he loved the people he was working with and loved what he was doing. I think he was a lot more devastated than he let on that Josh didn't even invite him to his wedding because Drake probably did see him as his brother. It's not like Drake's career in a slump by any means. It's the age of reboots and remakes, and given the show's popularity, it makes a lot of sense to want to do a reboot.
@@vkmtvstudios what Josh is saying is cap because they did actually hang out after the show. So he’s lying, when he says they haven’t kept in touch after the show
God bless the TH-cam algorithm gods for putting this in my recommended. The fact that this only has 36K views and you only have 3.08K subscribers is a crime. Nickelodeon nostalgia, a well put together video, A+ green screen background, 3 hours of entertainment, what else could I want? Drake & Josh was my childhood. It's one of those shows where the quality never tanked as the show went on. If I could mentally separate present-day Drake Bell from early 2000s Drake Parker, and just completely ignore Dan Schneider's existence and involvement with the production, I would still enjoy watching it to this day.
Thank you for the kind words, and I put drake and josh in the same category of a 7th Heaven, Cosby Show or Different Strokes where you mentally need to separate the shows tainted history from how you can still be entertained by it. Especially since the work of just one person shouldnt destroy others hard work
Amazing video! I'm only an hour in, but it's clear that you've put a lot of effort into the project. I loved Drake and Josh growing up and I'm so happy to see a deep dive video about it. Great work!
The behind the scene life of Josh Peck is incredible that you don’t see on the surface of the show. It’s unfortunate they both couldn’t have been happy post Drake and Josh.
@@vkmtvstudios yeah but upon the end of the video I’m sad to see that he’s a little fake towards Drake. Like to be with a guy as a costar for 20 years and you don’t even invite him to your wedding? Not even an invite? I’d be salty too.
@@aidenhoffman312 Yeah part of what I’m thinking of discussing in the next video is like I totally get a wife not wanting her wedding to be overshadowed by some Drake and Josh reunion talk, but it would seem common decency would have like a phone call where they would Give Drake that kind of heads up. And Its kinda sus that Josh talks about the show like it was old news and just a day job but he totally will use the show for his own benefit if it provides a ratings boost or vlog content
@@vkmtvstudios yeah like why have drake in your videos if you don’t see him as a friend or having a professional relationship with them? It seems to me that Josh kinda just threw all that away because he’s not that person anymore (which is fair) but if that’s the case then don’t be wishy washy with the other person. Just be straight up like “hey I’m sorry but I’m moving on from this part of my life let’s not have any hard feelings.” I feel like drake would be accepting of that and either move on or continue to look fondly of what they had and continue on with his career.
@@vkmtvstudios That's odd, though. He didn't want his wedding day to be about Drake & Josh, yet he invited Miranda Cosgrove (Megan) & Yvette Nicole Brown (Helen)? That's makes sense, doesn't it?🤔
The amount of care and research in this video is insane. Press footage is so cringey sometimes, especially for early 2000s kids networks. You are literally so powerful for wading through all of it and pulling out the most interesting parts. Like other people I am looking forward to a follow up, subscribed!
I think it's gonna go viral soon. the video came out almost a year ago but all of the comments are from the past week so I guess it showed up on all our explore pages at the same time. hopefully it will on more people's too! long-term documentaries on old kids shows seem to be in rn
I always love TH-camr documentaries especially the ones that don’t get a lot of attention somehow it feels like they have more passion and research into it
2:36:14 When the Beatles broke up John wanted nothing to do with them, in fact he was the first one to say he was leaving the band, but he never announced it publicly. Paul was the first one to announce he was leaving the band publicly, but John was the one who said it first privately within the group members themselves, they just told him to keep quiet about it. Paul wanted to get the band back together more than John did, even George and Ringo were open to coming back too, the only problem is Paul hated the manager Allen Klein and his handling of Apple Corps. That was what ultimately led the band to break up. John spent his last years before he was shot working as a house husband cooking, cleaning and raising his son, then he and Yoko made the Double Fantasy album released after his death.
It's very clear Drake has never moved on from the show. And I can't help but wonder how close the two were when filming. Did Drake view them as best friends and Josh always just view them as co-workers/work friends? It's hard to trust how they presented themselves to the public, because I imagine it was good PR to see them have the same dynamic in real life. Post-wedding, I always got the feeling Josh interacted with Drake to avoid the social media backlash of he didn't. Like Drake was using social media to make Josh be friends with him
Watched the whole thing and the ending is really depressing considering what's happened with these two lately. Looking forward to your part 2. Take your time with it. Hopefully there will be a part 3 with a happy ending in the future but idk man
Great video! The pacing was amazing too, which can also be hard to achieve in videos this length, and I like how everything was easy to understand and absorb. Sidenote: Yvette and Josh’s relationship is so cute
I noticed that when watching old clips of themselves, Drake will stare at himself and talk about himself a lot closer like he’s a fan watching his favourite actor’s new movie while Josh watches as if it’s a childhood video. It’s like he’s obsessed with the past and himself while Josh is like “yeah that happened okay”
I Suspect... Their conversation about the wedding probably ended with Josh understanding that if Drake showed up... then it would be about "Drake and Josh" and HER DAY would essentially be taken. The wedding day is the Brides' day. That's what i'm thinking !
I'm in the midst of cutting together the follow up video, and from my research. I went on record saying the same thing. It's always been treated as the bride's day and Drake being there could over shadow. I think of it like how Justin Timberlake didn't want his marriage to be overshadowed by an NSYNC REUNION headline.
It's kind of sad seeing drakes interviews. He obviously loves Josh and the show and you can tell that was his peak that he desperately wants to go back too. Seeing him talk about how much he loved josh and how much time they spent together, knowing that Josh doesn't feel the same way or at least publicly states he doesn't feel the same way is just sad. Until you remember the child abuse...
This video should have at minimum 2 millions views , just goes to show you views are not always an indictor of quality. This literally sent me back to that simpler & wonderful time now known as the early 2000s. You managed to be whimsical yet keep it professional.
It's not that professional, the introduction is extremely stretched out with the unnecessary cuts to the video creator awkwardly standing with his hand clutched in front of him.
@@addkeifspsdcvl Well it worked for me. he has done his research and the way he presents the information is in tune with the subject. This video is made for people like me who grew up in that time so him coming off in a causal manner mixes well with the professional level research here.
I can understand why josh doesn’t wanna revisit the past. He was always made out to be the ass of the joke but even so, he was always funnier just cus of how goofy and innocent he was. Drake is just stuck in that mentality of the “glory days” not realizing you have to grow up and move on
@@vkmtvstudios oh didn’t know that I don’t really even watch their individual work. To me the show was gold, I’ll just leave it at that and not look too close into their lives. Appreciate the art not the artist you know
plus although lots of girls had a big crush on Josh that time (both the character and the actor cause he's really cute), he was actually bullied in his own school so that's how he remembers it mostly.
The Brazilian clips warmed my heart. I used to be a small kid watching D&J and those interviews were iconic here. Drake and Josh was very influential to most kids here. At first they weren't available on public channels, but even then, they were already known! Man, those were the good days... Only at my granny's house I had access to Nickelodeon, so I cherished my visits there because I'd be able to watch cartoons... And Drake and Josh. I think D&J and Ned's declassified school survival guide were the only shows besides iCarly and Wizards of Waverly Place (but those were years later) that were live action and I actually loved... Good times
@@vkmtvstudios Not sure, to be honest. Kenan and Kel made some impact years before, but Drake and Josh was the biggest hit ever, I think. I think all the characters were in a way relatable to the audience here: both parents being either divorced or maybe single parents (Brazil has a bunch of single moms) that marry a person who already have kids (pretty common too) the father being chubby and quirky, the kids being unsupervised most of the time as parents work, the brothers being very different, Drake being a prankster who lies a lot, Josh being the nerdy good kid who is kind of a simp, Megan having a whole secret life... Also, the themes discussed, the type of comedy... Way more relatable than most live action shows for kids. Zoey 101, Victorious, iCarly, Kenan and Kel and such had way more "fantastic topics" with situations most kids never faced. D&J didn't rely on stereotypes and weird quirkiness as much as others did as well, i think. Overall, I can't pinpoint one thing, but I think it was a show that most kids, no matter poor or rich, could relate.
Oh man I love this!! All these commercials and interviews put together and actually having structure makes this 3 hour journey a cool drive, well done pal 🎉
wow these comments read differently after watching quiet on the set. I am so happy Drake is having success with his latin music career. He even moved to Mexico and it is so cute watching him speaking Spanish. He does a great cover of "La Camisa Negra". I hope he joins the ranks of other artists that have done crossovers and been successful like Shakira.
I’m saying this is someone who works professionally in the film industry. I absolutely loved watching Drake and Josh. I think I was the perfect age for it I want to say I was about nine years old when it first came out. It’s comedy direction personality was miles ahead of any garbage that Disney Channel ever produced. They actually had the teenagers act like teenagers which when you’re a preteen that’s what you look up to. I know for a fact that everyone that was my age group absolutely loved the show.
I don’t usually comment but this guy deserves some attention! Spent my day cleaning and reminiscing on my Drake and Josh days. Really glad this popped up on my recommendations. This was awesome, amazing work man.
I really appreciate you making this video so in-depth. Drake and Josh was one of those childhood shows I remember watching start to finish . It might be the clearest memory I have of a show premiering. It was a great show for kids who grew up watching it. And I hope kids today as finding it!! Do you think you'll follow up with the "Quiet on set" documentary?
Thank you so much for this video. This brought back some great memories from my teenage years. I’m 32 now but Drake and Josh will always hold a place in my heart and I would absolutely watch a reboot. Honestly this morning has been a real nostalgia trip for me and I ended up watching the whole thing in one go. Once again, thank you for this excellent documentary. I am sure it’ll blow up one day and get millions of views. The kind of quality on show here is very rare to see and reminded me of some great times in our living room with my brothers growing up watching this show.
This was one of the last shows I watched on Nickelodeon. I was headed into high school and just kind of grew out of it before it ended, but Drake and Josh reminded me of my brother and I. This was super in depth and interesting. Thanks for putting this together.
Brother, you did your homework. This is a great documentary. I'm a 51 year old dad whose daughter loved Drake and Josh. Me, I still watch it to this day. I bought myself the series. Something about it I just love!
@@vkmtvstudios I remember asking my daughter somewhere around 2007-2009 "what is this show?" And she told me. I loved it then and still love it. The only one thing I would change is that it can be a little "Risqué". They probably didn't realize 8-10yr olds would watch it. But I still laugh at it all the same. Of they do a remake, I want to be in it! Haha! Supporting characters were great as well. I loved Eric...he was funny.
Wow. This video is fantastic. I'm sure you've got the comparison often between this video and Quinton Reviews' similar deep dives on Carly/Victorious. But I prefer this format MUCH more. You manage to be comprehensive about everything inside and outside the show and weave it all together so well without resorting to play by play breakdowns of every individual episode. It's very clear you did a ton of research based on stitching personal stories of Drake and Josh from various scattered interviews throughout the years. And you worked a lot on how you structured things. Asides from some editing issues where you're talking and there's also Drake and Josh audio underneath you so it's hard to understand you, this is about as good I can ask for a retrospective.
Dude yes! I’m not trying to dog any other creator like a Quentin, but I’ve always been against a full ep recaps unless they mean something to the overall arc of a show. And yeah, I’m always trying to get a better audio mix. My best friend @itsyfhtv is a huge audio stickler.
@@11mazatl Yeah I’ve always been kind of turned off myself by the cynical nature that he makes his stuff with. Though to his credit his Garfield early history video was good

I still like the ep. breakdowns but keep this up my dude!
The amount of old Nickelodeon commercial footage is insane. How much time did it take to compile all of that? I don't even like _Drake & Josh_ (I'm more a _Zoey 101_ and _iCarly_ guy, personally) but I watched this documentary all the way through in one sitting and I feel like I've come away with a vast amount of knowledge.

Appears to me that Drake's development was completely arrested in this time. The 2000's really was a strange and misogynistic time, and he was put into a LITERAL role of being some sort of player, heart throb guy. I don't think he could move on and grow up. Most child actors struggle with this, but it generally doesn't lead to his convictions. One thing about predators in general is that they're immature and think of themselves as still young or even as still children and teens. This is a delusion, designed to justify their own sexualization at a young age, which only leads to the perpetration of more sexualization of teens and children. Drake Bell is kind of a victim, right? No 14 year old should have their identity wrapped up in all of this. Not to mention, the state of autopilot required of child actors. They have to learn to be "on" and this can lead to a very manipulative set of personality traits. Whether Drake felt up to it or not, he had to go on camera and be charming, and not only that, but always represent a character that was praised and loved for his charm. He basically was groomed to be a liar with trust issues and a troubling ego.
You can sense when Josh Peck speaks that he is being authentic, you can sense when Drake speaks that he's putting on the same front he always has to get through the industry. I feel for him and I also do not.
As someone who watches stuff like this all day this is the best long form video about any nick show in a while. Too many of these are 2hrs plus for no reason.
Thank you, I got nervous about the length. But I always thought if I was to watch a documentary like that I would like to know every last thing there is a possibly now by the time I’m finished
I remember the premier of Drake and Josh go Hollywood being a big deal to us 8 year olds that year. I remember my neighbor and I having a sleepover to watch it
I can say Drake was definitely mainstream at some point in his life. Being a guitar player myself, if I were to play sell out shows to 20,000 people in Mexico I would be so happy that I’m making a difference in music somewhere. The US isn’t always the big leagues
I actually respect Drake more that he at his peak wanted to make the style of music he liked (50s/60s) instead of trend chasing. And as a son of a rocker, It's been like 30 years since America has treated the guitar with mainstream respect. Other countries like our Rock way more than our radio stations.
This is one of the best documentaries I have seen on here. Also it’s weird how TH-cam recommended this video 10 months later. Drake has been involved in a scandal and Drake and Josh are feuding again.
I don’t play the TH-cam trending game, so my stuff tends to disappear into a void. It’s kind of funny how it’s showing up now. I think I will have to make a follow up on Whats happened since
I've been watching this video bit by bit over a few days, and the view count jumps by a few thousand every time I come back! Well deserved, great video.
This randomly came across my recommended videos & I didn't even realize it was 3hrs long! That flew right by! Great pacing! You did a fantastic job putting everything together. Drake & Josh was one of the best shows on Nickelodeon. I would love to see you do a followup!
I've never seen this channel before, and figured I'd listen to this while I worked. I couldn't because I kept seeing and hearing scenes I wanted to see with my own eyes again. It's a shame with all the drama (and more importantly allegations) around Drake, I met him when he was touring near Philly a few years ago and he seemed like such a chill guy. Thanks for all the hard work, you obviously spent a ton of time working on this!
I talked with one of his movie costars who said Drake was kind of intense competitive. I'm glad you found the channel, and hope you find more in the backlog you dug.
This video would have been much more depressing had it been made just a few months later, so I'm glad it wasn't. I hope Drake gets the help he needs to grow and make amends with everyone he has let down eventually.
To be honest there were things that I stumbled on researching that were hearsay and rumored, but I didn’t include because there was nothing concrete and I’m not a fan of jumping before researching
I thought I was a Drake & Josh superfan, but there was so much I learned from watching your video! It’s amazing how you were able to find and include behind-the-scenes videos from the show back when it was airing on TV. On another note, it’s insane how literally days after you made this video, everything changed since that’s around the time Drake’s legal issues started happening.
Thanks, I try to get the type of info that a superfan wouldn't even know. It's what I want from videos, so I try to provide that. Also yeah, literally months later all the scandals started going down. Had to make that sequel.
@@vkmtvstudios I’m glad you did. It’s funny how you ended the video saying the reboot was very likely unless “Drake and Josh hated each other”, which is kind of how events played out with Josh denying having been friends with Drake since the show ended
wow i absolutely loved this video! so many details from filming the show to outside situations that affected the cast members. keep up the content (but take your time of course).
i always loved that they referenced what happened in the movie in later episodes!! that was always so annoying in kid shows where they’d completely ignore the random movie they made lmfao
@@vkmtvstudios yeah but even if they somehow made up, there's no telling what the rest of the cast thinks of him, and I doubt Nick would risk the scandle of letting a man who pleaded guilty to attempted child endangerment back on their network for a reboot
I'm glad Josh is able to love himself and keep doing classic comedy in his own way. I aged out of some of the jokes, but it doesn't matter. It is cute and inspiring.
Best Drake & Josh commentary I have seen ever with the separate interview clips and deep dive into all the other characters! This show was my everything after school and will always have a spot in my heart💕
2:40:40 the morbidly hilarious thing about Drake's idea here is that the fraught economy, housing market and lack of wealth/class mobility these days means that many more people in their 20s and 30s are living at home with their parents and/or siblings still, where decades ago they'd have moved out at 18. So it's not even an outrageous premise nowadays.
I've consumed my fair share of videos talking about the controversies between them, Drake's allegations, Josh disliking him, and all that. I really gotta say that it's refreshing to watch something that is a history of the show and the time they spent there rather than just another drama dump video. Also some of those bumpers and old commercials were probably a pain to find, so kudos!
Thanks for the compliment, and funny enough the hardest stuff to find was any "Where's Walter" stuff. I even had some lost media people reach out to me.
53:28 Aykroyd & Belushi are a good parallel with Bell & Peck. Both relationships are or were very strong and binding, but also very mixed up and lacking in boundaries, not to mention confusing to outside observers.
I just now realized that their last moment on the Amanda Show was fighting over shrimp and the last Drake and Josh "movie" was called really big shrimp lol
Pretty interesting stuff. I know what Drake did was really bad, but I do feel a bit sorry for him. He clearly knows he's peaked and he tries so hard to cling onto the past. Josh obviously just wants to move on and him throwing Drake under the bus just shows how far he is willing to go. From the clips here, a lot of what Drake talks about is them being a dynamic duo and it's pretty clear he really valued their friendship. I know you mentioned doing a follow up video and it would be pretty interesting to see.
Yeah I’ve been researching for Partío and I’ve gotten to the more pro Drake Bell reasons first So I’m a little bit more sympathetic to him. But I got a look on Josh’s books and interviews to see if it’s a little bit more complicated
@@brytonup1551 I think that’s another case where they wanted to separate from each other for a while and now that Keenan is older and accomplished it seems like he’s way more chill about nickelodeon stuff
Despite all the things surrounding Kid Nick Stars… Drake & Josh is very timeless. Even after all these years, the show can still pull a laugh out of you 😭 Now that’s funny, I wished Drake and Josh were cool in real life so they could work more. They had a chemistry that was cool, but it seems the shows played a little too close to the actors reality which blurred the lines. When actors changed the show change with and it was amazing. Josh showed the growth but Drake had the heart. Supporting cast was the outcome of the two and it was always a hoot to watch them bounce off of other characters. This and Ned declassified always had top tier slap stick comedy
It probably doesn't help that Drake didn't do all that many shows after Drake & Josh and so that makes even more longing for those days. Of course one has to wonder if he really misses it or if he misses the attention and fame he got from it because he was considered a teenage heartthrob back in the early 2000s...
The episode where Josh is done with drake and drake realizes he needs Josh in his life is interesting to look back on now, because it’s almost a prediction of how things are playing out irl
This was amazing!! Subscribed! Thank you for all the work I know you put into this. I really enjoy super long form content like this! Only half way through so far and I’m absolutely amazed ! Can’t wait to check out your channel!!!
I’m ngl I’m really hurt Josh didn’t invite Drake, Miranda or Yvette to his wedding. Sometimes Josh feels a little… fake in his presentation to social media? Like he milks D&J quotes for views, and talks about how close he is to the three mentioned above… but he didn’t invite ANY of them to his wedding?
i can kinda see both sides. on the one hand, as an above comment mentioned, if he invited them then all of the headlines would be about a drake and josh cast reunion and i glean that that isn’t what him and his bride wanted. on the other hand, i totally understand what you mean. if he was really as close with yvette as he says, i would be really hurt if i was her.
I found such a similarity of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are you gonna go my way” whenever a scene was switching on Drake and Josh, especially around the end of the song with a solo guitar part 🤯
It's kind of a pointless question, but i sometimes wonder if drake turned out the way he did because of the way his character was deified and how he was surrounded by men of that...variety, from a young age, or would he always have been this way? Obviously we can't change the past but I do wonder if we can use it going forward to prevent history from repeating.
24:16/1:31:02/1:32:40 Drake Parker definitely has hinted bisexuality, evident from coded dialogue lines and jokes in the show, and from how he relates to Josh specifically (i.e., 1:32:38). In a way, this makes a lot of sense--consider the way Drake overcompensates with serial dating women for his reputation while not attaching to any of them (even Carly was gone after a month), yet is devastated when Josh leaves his side. On the flipside, it's also quite telling that Josh goes through so much angst and reluctance over telling Drake he's dating Mindy (1:50:09). It's like Josh already knows he'll break Drake's heart at least a little with the change. Drake's ostensibly fine with it in the show, but he does seem downbeat after receiving the news, and becomes more clingy toward Josh in episodes afterward. Drake also freaks out when, in a later episode, Josh confesses to Drake that Mindy has said the 'L' word, and Drake's bad reaction in turn causes Josh panic and upset too. It seems that Josh himself didn't want anything or anyone to come between what he & Drake have. Add to these moments: the unnecessary but sweet kiss scene in the episode Josh Runs Into Oprah; that tender couch moment they have in Really Big Shrimp (2:03:36), and; the several heavy adult innuendos in the Christmas movie (my favourite being 2:22:52, when Drake awakes to a baby chimp kissing him and grumpily/tiredly assumes it's Josh, without being disgusted or upset, as if morning kissing is something they routinely do). All of them subtextually tell the audience "this is not an entirely platonic or fraternal relationship". It's pretty clever how the writers & producers got this past American censors.
I was so excited to see this pop up in my recommended, awesome doc! I adore this show and I was so into Drake at the time. I've been so saddened by everything that came after for him. This is such a great retrospective, great memories from that era of Nick for me.
Missing from this timeline: before Josh joined The Amanda Show, he appeared on an episode of Double Dare 2000, competing on a team with the cast of the film 'Snow Day' against the existing cast of The Amanda Show which then included Drake. It was Josh & Drake's very first meeting, and their first job together onscreen. During that DD2k episode, Josh made Drake laugh out loud and smile a good few times despite playing on an opposing team, so they obviously had a connection from jump.
the fact that I see so many-- mostly old-- comments praising Josh Peck for "moving on" and demonizing Drake Bell for "peaking/being obsessed with the show" just feels really off yk.
Drake? 🤔
It's so interesting to see all of the clips of Drake talking about how much he loved and missed the show after it ended. It really comes off as a man that peaked and wants desperately to relive his glory days. Whereas with Josh, it seems like he sees D&J as a footnote in his career.
I noticed that too
I kind of See it both ways, where you can also see it as drake treating it with respect because of HOw people fondly remember it, Where is Josh tries to act above it when in reality it’s not like turner and hooch or grandfathered were prestige television either.
i don’t agree with the glory days thing, Drake has debatably been more successful since then than Josh, genuinely the biggest stuff he’s done since is dobrik videos and his one off shows, neithers been huge it just seems like one person accepting he’s associated with the role and the other pretending Grandfathered was bigger than Drake and Josh

It’s like the real life version of the episode Josh is Done
It has nothing to do with psychology. Josh LIED about ever being friends with Drake to publicly distance himself from him. He wasn't denying it. He literally got caught lying about the last time they saw/spoke about each other. He didn't block out the friendship. He downplayed his association with a man who was caught talking online to an underage child.
@@DavidKen878 he shouldn't have lied but it really isn't unimagineable someone would react the way he did
@@DavidKen878 so part of my research for the part two Has been the fact the friendship ending does not seem to be rooted in any of the child predatory stuff. Like that would’ve been a legit reason, but it does not seem like that was the reason
@@vkmtvstudios Wow really? Now I can't wait for part two! 🤔
It's kind of sad to see Drake's career timeline in this; he looks like someone who had so much promise as a teen. Knowing how he ends up is depressing.
The good thing about life is that there’s always opportunity for redemption and A come back
@@vkmtvstudios criminal consequences aside, I think a lot of his redepmtion will have to come from Drake moving on from that era of his life. Josh has grown up, Drake can't seem to let go of what he considers his peak (and technically was his peak, as part of a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy).
2024: he was blackballed in acting.
Yeah but I think by season four they had changed up the dynamic of Josh being always the whipping boy
Yeah without researching this topic it seems to me like Josh is more worried about the PR backlash that Drake brings
Yeah that whole situation is messed up,
I think everyone saying "drake peaked and josh moved on" while it is true to a certain degree but not completely accurate. Drake is able to see the time spent on dnj as the golden era whereas josh views it as him awkwardly figuring himself out while trying to balance his career at the time.
when you put it like that, makes perfect sense.

Paul wanted to get the band back together more than John did, even George and Ringo were open to coming back too, the only problem is Paul hated the manager Allen Klein and his handling of Apple Corps. That was what ultimately led the band to break up. John spent his last years before he was shot working as a house husband cooking, cleaning and raising his son, then he and Yoko made the Double Fantasy album released after his death.

plus although lots of girls had a big crush on Josh that time (both the character and the actor cause he's really cute), he was actually bullied in his own school so that's how he remembers it mostly.
Josh was a better actor and comedian on the show. Drake was the music and public personality of a celebrity
Finally, more unnecessarily long reviews of Nickelodeon sitcoms
You just wait till I drop my 16 hour video about cat dog
The Brazilian clips warmed my heart. I used to be a small kid watching D&J and those interviews were iconic here. Drake and Josh was very influential to most kids here. At first they weren't available on public channels, but even then, they were already known! Man, those were the good days... Only at my granny's house I had access to Nickelodeon, so I cherished my visits there because I'd be able to watch cartoons... And Drake and Josh. I think D&J and Ned's declassified school survival guide were the only shows besides iCarly and Wizards of Waverly Place (but those were years later) that were live action and I actually loved... Good times
That's crazy how big this show was in Brazil. What made it speak to you guys?
@@vkmtvstudios Also, I think the "dirty jokes" and such also had a big part, since Brazilian kids are kinda precocious
Yeah, sometimes they try to make teens either super mature or way too immature and it feels off.
I don’t usually comment but this guy deserves some attention! Spent my day cleaning and reminiscing on my Drake and Josh days. Really glad this popped up on my recommendations.
This was awesome, amazing work man.
That made my day!
Yes I to would watch drake and josh with my best friend and my sister. It was appointment tv
Seeing how Yvette cares for Josh her little pumpkin is so precious I love them
This was one of the last shows I watched on Nickelodeon. I was headed into high school and just kind of grew out of it before it ended, but Drake and Josh reminded me of my brother and I. This was super in depth and interesting. Thanks for putting this together.
The fact that you made this 11 months ago.. and it’s getting more popular recently is crazy… glad I’m here before 1 million views 🙏🏻😇
1 million would be awesome, thanks for watching
Brother, you did your homework. This is a great documentary. I'm a 51 year old dad whose daughter loved Drake and Josh. Me, I still watch it to this day. I bought myself the series. Something about it I just love!
That's really cool. I always thought the show had a real 70s 80s sitcom vibe.
@@joeb2588 thats pretty cool
Dude, Helen still looks fantastic 15+ years later.
Yeah she’s one of those that looks the same as when the show was new
Bruh nothing against QR but he rants forever about absolutely nothing. His videos could be half the length he puts them out.
quinton's long reviews are puroposefully made as binge content
@@11mazatl Yeah I’ve always been kind of turned off myself by the cynical nature that he makes his stuff with. Though to his credit his Garfield early history video was good
@@vkmtvstudios not sure if you’ve seen J’s reviews channel, his videos (without the copyright edit) on the DCAU is a good series. He does episode by episode reviews but it’s a good format for that style review bc his passion/geeky-ness shows. This format is definitely a lot more informative driven, and I’m a fan!
I’ve had the suggestion to take a look at Zoe one oh one, and that interests me. And I’ve not seen the marathon Quentin Reviews video to know if he dug real deep on ICarly or just did episode recaps. Can some of you guys answer that?

Subbed & liked, will definitely check your other videos out soon, brother :D
Watched this because it was in my recommended for the past week or two. Congrats on being blessed by the algorithm for a nearly year-old upload.
Yeah I figured it was just another doa vid haha

I'm glad you dug it, Im hard at work mapping out part 2 and all it's not so pretty revelations.

On another note, it’s insane how literally days after you made this video, everything changed since that’s around the time Drake’s legal issues started happening.

Best Drake & Josh commentary I have seen ever with the separate interview clips and deep dive into all the other characters! This show was my everything after school and will always have a spot in my heart💕
Thank you I made it for people like us who like a deep deep dive
The more you know
This really is a great documentary! It should be on TV. Nice work, man!
Yeah, I try to aim for high-quality. One of my TH-cam inspirations is Norm the gaming historian
@@vkmtvstudios It would be most interesting to see, keep it up mate.
Drake and Kel should team up lol Kenan ditched kel and josh ditched drake

Look out for part two, I’ll address that split
Drake is like that one dude who’s already graduated that keeps coming back to visit his high school and old teachers
From my research for part 2, I think his stance is that he wants to love the show the same way a fan approaching him does.
I hope it has the same ending to.

100 percent agree
i can kinda see both sides. on the one hand, as an above comment mentioned, if he invited them then all of the headlines would be about a drake and josh cast reunion and i glean that that isn’t what him and his bride wanted. on the other hand, i totally understand what you mean. if he was really as close with yvette as he says, i would be really hurt if i was her.
Drake is the irl Bojack Horseman
TH-cam's recommendation system doesn't always work, but when it does...
i've been stuck to my screen for two hours, it's such a good video
Love hearing that
I found such a similarity of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are you gonna go my way” whenever a scene was switching on Drake and Josh, especially around the end of the song with a solo guitar part 🤯
Theres no denying some of that Lenny influence
it really was a genius move giving Drake and Josh their own show together. They clearly have excellent chemistry
Yeah they really did
It's kind of a pointless question, but i sometimes wonder if drake turned out the way he did because of the way his character was deified and how he was surrounded by men of that...variety, from a young age, or would he always have been this way? Obviously we can't change the past but I do wonder if we can use it going forward to prevent history from repeating.
I think it's a bit of both. Cause sometimes it's the straight laced guys on some of these shows that snap later on.
Yeah I hope him having a family stops all the weirdness from here on out
Bro this was so well done. Like watching a professional documentary without the fluff. PERFECT
Thank you so much, I really wanted to answer every last question about the show I could
Missing from this timeline: before Josh joined The Amanda Show, he appeared on an episode of Double Dare 2000, competing on a team with the cast of the film 'Snow Day' against the existing cast of The Amanda Show which then included Drake. It was Josh & Drake's very first meeting, and their first job together onscreen. During that DD2k episode, Josh made Drake laugh out loud and smile a good few times despite playing on an opposing team, so they obviously had a connection from jump.
