    so let me get this straight, a raw material of choice is fermented then the alcohol is isolated to obtain nearly pure alcohol and then it is diluted with clean water?

    • @beakt
      @beakt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! Gin is similar; they add herbs and water to the nearly pure alcohol, then distill it again so the alcohol picks up the flavors. Then they add water again.

    All those examples of water purity, and you forget Reyka? Their water also comes from glacial ice, albeit in Iceland, where they’re based.
    Fun fact, the name “Reyka” is a shortening of the name of Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik. Reykjavik wouldn’t fit on the whole bottle, so they shortened it to Reyka.

    @2:58 the image used is incorrect as it is Raki, an alcoholic drink made of distilled grapes and anise (It is the national drink of Turkey). the reason it is white and looks like milk is that traditionally water is added to dilute the alcohol before consuming, however, you can drink it without adding the water.

    what is the difference between the "grape vodka" and brandy??

    • @missourimongoose8858
      @missourimongoose8858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grappa is made after the juices have been taken out for wine making while brandy is made strait from the fruit without making wine first

    • @SamuelLanghorn
      @SamuelLanghorn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@missourimongoose8858 thanks for your comment, but that was not my question.
      I am not talking about Grappa.
      I am talking about the concept of grape vodka and grape brandy.
      From my understanding, vodka is made of wine (as you also point out) and vodka is strictly (?) made from potatoes.
      Looks like there is a lot of purposeful confusion done by the respective distillers....

    • @Novocalsmtlbeat
      @Novocalsmtlbeat ปีที่แล้ว

      Brandy can only be distilled from any sort of fruit juice (grape in this case) while vodka on the other can be distilled from literally anything that contains starch or sugar that being said the main difference between grape vodka and brandy is in the distillation process vodka is akin meaning that it is distilled above 90 % alcohol and at that level all the flavour has been stripped off which it is now a tasteless odorless spirit brandy on the other hand is distilled about 2 times which means that there is plenty of flavour compound and impurities left giving it a fruity and spicy aroma brandy is also almost always aged while vodka aren’t!

    Just a few little corrections! Vodka was invented in Russia, yes, but the Polish invented it. Specifically, it was the Polish Monk Isidore, who used Rye to create the first referenced recipe for vodka while visiting the Kremlin in Russia back in the early 1400s.
    The grape based spirit you reference in this video is Aqua Vitae, or 'Living Water', which was brought to Russia by the Genoesians in the mid-to-late 1300's and was distilled from grape must. It is the base for a few different types of spirits, including vodka, but it is not vodka.

      Buy a gallon of water- add sugar and yeast.... let ferment for a week or longer if u want stronger.... and then drink that like shots or distill it for alot stronger alcohol.... can make the sugarwash for less than 10$ and drink that for a weaker vodka, make it taste good with grape juice etc.
