A heat pump isn’t going to get your pool from 50 to 82 degrees in 56 hours . If your pool is 50, it’s because it’s cold outside and heat pumps can only get your pool 5 or 10 degrees above ambient temp outside . If you want to swim when it’s cold and money isn’t an issue, get a gas heater. If you just want to keep your pool nice and warm when it’s already somewhat warm outside or like the pool extra warm on the occasional chillier day , get a heat pump. But remember, 2 or 3 degrees increase in temp in 24hrs is what to expect with a heat pump .

Unless you use a thermal blanket. Without one a a heat pump will struggle in cold as you say.

In B.C. gas is 300 a month (4 months of the year) for 20000 gallons, a heat pump is carbon neutral (here) and is way cheaper to run for maintaining a temperature, we need gas to get us up from 48F to 86

Good to know. Gas is still cheaper here in Southern California. But not by much.

A dedicated gas line? That just complicated things, Sigh...

In California, electricity costs a ton and to run that type of wattage for 56 hours would cost an arm and a leg.

Natural Gas is cheaper - you are correct. The state will be banning gas appliances by 2030 which doesn't make a lot of sense.

Im in southern california, I have a heat pump, but I also have a paid for 7.3kw solar system. The heat pump gets alot more efficient, the higher the air temp is, so I set my heat pump to kick on automatically at 2pm to 3pm (warmest time of the day/before my TOU 4pm) to heat my spa only (with bubble cover on). That gets the spa to about 85 degrees, then by the evening, my spa is "pre-heated" and it only takes about 20 mins to get my spa up to 98ish degrees to get in it, and while im in it, takes another 15 mins to get to 100 degrees if I want. I dont use the heat pump to heat the pool, there is no need in my opinion. Bottom line is, if you must heat your pool/spa quickly, go with a gas heater. But for me, the energy savings with a heat pump is a no brainer.

Hi David…Nikki from Arkansas😊can you recommend a good pool cover for my 16x40 I ground pool by chance? Do I need to order one larger than my pool size? Thanks so much

I hope you are doing well. Been awhile. We don't winterize our pools here, so I only know a little bit about the brands of covers. Maybe check online for the best reviewed covers.
