I actually got a more decorative pattern and hand painted each one with a brush prior to installing.
There was no brush strokes. The tip is to not overload your brush and use light strokes

I live in FL and am about to repair some drywall in one area of the house from some storm damage. I'm considering repairing the drywall and then instead of going through the pain of trying to paint match (old popcorn ceiling), just doing ceiling tiles like these. My concern is that if/when we get another hurricane and the drywall gets water damage, these ceiling tiles will conceal the damage and I will not be aware that I need to do a repair. Do you have any experience with identifying water damage behind these types of tiles, or if water damage will be noticeable?

Your concern is reasonable. I don't think you would be able to notice water damage with these tiles is place and it would be difficult to test for damage as well. Unless you have a way to view the ceiling from above, I would probably skip the tiles.

if I can ask a question, just moved to a home where there is a ceiling paint peeling, i want to instead of repainting it do this ceiling install, want to check if its okay to sand down where the peeling is happening and then glue this on top of it. There is some moisture or humidity where we live in Hartford, Ct

The best method is to have a completely clean surface. Barring that, scrap away any peeling paint and apply a heavy-duty primer like Killz. Be sure not to skimp on the the adhesive caulk. If I were you, I would apply more liberally than I did in the video so that if one spot fails, there is plenty of spots still adhering. You don't need to cover the tile, but place more dots of adhesive around the tile. Good luck.

    Why Styrofoam versus plastic?

I did not choose one over the other, this styrofoam is what I found with a design that I liked. I would imagine that the plastic would be more difficult to cut, but might be more sturdy. All the plastic that I have seen is for suspended ceilings, but it is possible that there is a plastic tile that glues onto drywall.

@@HomeImproveman thanks. There is glue up plastic tiles, just wondered if you had experience with both and chose Styrofoam, guess not. Thanks
