The anime looks beautiful so far, the only problem I have is that they rely heavily on Ruby's semblance during fights rather than how in the original she uses her weight and the much larger weight of Cresent rose to move on turns and slashes
I think it was to show her semblance as early as possible so that they wouldn't have to explain what it is later. Also Ruby barely used her semblance in the first volume, actually I think the first time we got to actually see it in full action was during the food fight in volume 2 lol.
Contrary to the absolute shit fed to us in.... I think V7?, Ruby's Semblance is a speed based semblance so she's actually MUCH smarter in the anime than the main series gives her credit for. She uses physics to her advantage by using her Semblance to make up for the probably insane weight of Crescent Rose. Sure, she'd likely be able to snap any one of us in half but let's assume for a moment that she's NOT inhumanly strong. She would be able to use Crescent Rose on it's own unassisted for short bursts but by using her Semblance, she can offput some of the effort needed to swing that probably 200 to 500 pound hunk of metal while simultaneously increasing the strength of her blows. Just think about how much mental calculating she would have to do in a fight to make it come across so smoothly. This girl's basically a fucking genius!
I like the anime version a lot, but I liked the little bit where Ruby asked the shopkeeper if it was okay if she went after Torchwick. I like the implication that if the shopkeeper was truly injured Ruby would have just left Torchwick to make sure they were okay. It really cemented that Ruby was more focused on caring for others than defeating evil. Of course, given the implications about Summer in season 8, maybe Ruby is supposed to be less caring in the anime.
@@ben99ny69 Also true, though to be fair she would have been kind of useless inside the store. Ruby wields a scythe in melee, which requires a wide range for power buildup (it can't exactly stab after all). Being in the middle of the store might cause her to be limited in close combat, plus unable to use her sniper rifle. By contrast, she was very skilled when she had room to maneuver, and if the enemies had stayed inside she could have sniped them from range. I honestly thing that is why she deployed the scythe in that way, making it clear that if they didn't come out, her bullets were coming in (which would have broken the window anyway). All in all, while not exactly the best choice (Ruby REALLY needs to learn hand to hand or carry a backup weapon for just such a problem) breaking the window and forcing the fight outside was the best call she could have made.
@@idk-ye7ur Fair, but there are 3 things to keep in mind. First, the RT budget for RWBY wasn't that big so they might have just skipped out on injuries because of that. Second, you can't always tell if a person is injured. For example, if the guy had been punched hard in the chest and that caused internal injuries it wouldn't be visible for a while (bruises tend to take hours if not a day to form). Third, Ruby only knew about the goons she fought. It is entirely possible the "okay if I go after him" question is also her asking about any remaining goons that she didn't see or hid (which considering Neo's shtick would have been a good thing to ask). All in all, I can't think of a reason why a caring Ruby at the very least should not have asked if she could help before going after Torchwick. Again though, it might be that in the anime Ruby is supposed to be more vengeful compared to her original counterpart so that might be why she didn't ask.
I think I get why it's cut cuz Japanese don't understand American jokes XD so they interpreted it to suit the Japanese audience remember y'all's animation studios don't care about the west an anime is worthless if it don't do well in Japan ^^/
@@zeninspriggan794 yes, that's right😂😂😂, original RWBY is too western imo, and have many things that not suitable in Japan or eastern consumers in general, so it feels different. So, I don't get it why so many people try to compared too much of both in quality?, it obviously have different mindset, technolgy, budget and resource😂.
While 'This Will Be the Day' cuts out in the original, having 'Capabilities Unseen' playing in the actual fight just elevates both versions to a whole new level.
I don't know, I prefer having the music cut out like that. She is playing it through her headphones and she pauses it to deal with the goons it's almost like she is saying I need to deal with you but you are not as important as this tune I am listening to and I won't miss a second of it
One thing I noticed is that when the scythe is unfolding the original doesn't focus closely on it, while the anime puts a lot of emphasis on it. So the anime feels like it's saying "here's the really cool part" but the original feels more like it's still building to the cool part. Then comes the scythe twirl with the OG being a flurry of movement from both Ruby and the weapon, while the anime is more standard anime "fast moving weapon" spinning
Monty had a better understanding of weight, movement and shot composition. Trying to recreate his stuff by trying to match the energy he creates tends to come out floaty and weak
isnt that just a nitpick? also didnt she literally spin in like in the OG after doing the "fast moving weapon" spinning? You're critisizing just to critisize at this point.
@@user-tq6fx7tl7e I don’t think it’s a nitpick tbh. The aspects of the fights, like the camera angles and body positions are some of the major appeals of the original. Look at the JNPR fight with the scorpion, new and old for example. The anime still has good animation though. I don’t think they were saying it bad, just pointing something out.
If you watch it in slow motion, you see little details in Monty's animations that are too fast to notice at full speed (especially in the trailers, which are of MUCH higher quality than the show ever was). While some may see the original as a bit slower, it's actually too fast for you to even register at full speed, and a lot weightier. Every movement is deliberate. Rather than swinging the scythe around like it's weightless, she uses the weight of her weapon to move her own body around. While the new looks really good, and even holds up well under slow motion, and I'm glad this is where they are spending the budget, it sadly does not hold a candle to the absolute genius of the original. And I fear I won't get to witness another fight animator like Monty in my lifetime :(
Yeah there is a reason it felt so real and so good, and almost not like an anime lol. But I think your right, we probably won't see another person of Monty's level. It's makes me cry );
@@DrNyow I've seen some fans coming up to stand with him, not in his place but definitely with more understanding than the average fan. It's a reminder that while he may be gone, Monty left a legacy that will last much longer.
Somewhere out there lies a timeline where Monty was okay, continued RWBY with his original crew with what probably would've been a different storyline almost entirely, improved his unique craft, and eventually got to work with animators of Studio Shaft (who did Black Rock Shooter which inspired Monty and made Ice Queendom), and take his craft to an even higher level, and potentially even make RWBY a revolutionary series in animation. Too bad we're in our timeline. I just hope that seeing his RWBY being adapted by the Studio that inspired him, brings him a kind of joy I couldn't even begin to describe.
One thing that surprised me and I actually liked about the new anime is having Ty and yang show up looking for Ruby : I always thought she might have been alone in the original, And that bothered me a little bit despite knowing it wasn’t too much of a deal as a trainee huntress and it’s fairly safe city, but having Yang and Ty go looking for her in that first part really cements them as caring family members
I think this one casts a shadow on Ruby's heroic loner mood. It made her look like a teenager, spoiled and irresponsible girl. If his family didn't trust him, they wouldn't have trained him as a warrior and handed him that weapon. I think the depiction of trust could have been handled differently here.
But that's the thing I think is out of place. The principal talked to her without them around after the fight. If they were there looking for her, they should've also been there in that room. If they're gonna add something, they should've gone all the way. Same with her petal form semblance. When I saw she used it here, I was very much looking forward to her using it against the giant scorpion and giant crow, when I saw she doesn't use it in that fight, I got very disappointed and didn't even watch the rest.
Sorry to but in, only want to add that I consider it actualy very reasonable that the teenager that is alowed to carry a loaded gun biger than she is tall, to be trusted to walk to a store on her own. Especialy considering that she probably was there because she was geting something for her academy, and yang had graduated and their dad lived in the woods.
I like how in the OG she takes care to use the back of crescent rose instead of the main blade, showing that she's not trying to hurt them to much, just trying to knock them out of the fight.
Shaft's take on the robbery is mostly better minus one small detail. When Ruby bust through the window in the original it's not just to be a dramatic entrance, it's to take down one of the thugs as well.
@@SynchronizorVideos Yeah bruh, just causally walk/run to the door in front of armed goons. Obviously she's gonna use her semblance to get out of there asap lol. Also, they need her to use her semblance as much as possible in this scene for story purposes.
Yes. I was hyped after seeing this fight, but was disappointed after seeing the fight against the giant crow and scorpion. She used her petal form semblance in this first fight scene, but she never used it against those two giant monsters. The continuity is bad, if they're gonna change something, they should've gone all the way and make sure it's consistent.
When you realize Ruby took out all these goons without directly hitting em with the sniper bullets or the blade of her scythe. Cause im pretty sure that would easily paint the whole street red- Aura or not. Just saying i feel there's a reason she barely ever uses it on people.
the animation of the fight scene is improved in the anime (Vol 1 left a loft to be desired graphically), but the anime seems to have changed Ruby's character. OG Ruby is playful, almost happy to be robbed so she can kick some ass. Has a bit of an ego to her. She's a child and it shows. Anime Ruby seems a lot more serious, is portrayed as being more mature. Also, anime introducing Ein and Blake a little too early, and Tai WAAY too early
My guess is they're going to go in a different direction from the original by introducing a new plot. Because I'm sure that whole Nightmare Grimmm thingand that dreamcatcher mage character was never in the original. So they have to quicken the pace to get to it.
The reason why the anime is different from OG seems to be these: -It has been decided to remove the prominence of the original series on Ruby. The Anime gives more importance to the rest of the team. -It has been decided that each protagonist will have a completely entire season. Icequeendom makes reference to it being Weiss season. -Scenes from the original series have been removed to speed up the plot towards the new anime synopsis, Icequeendom. -Each season will have an original plot that does not exist in the original series. Focused on each member of RWBY. -RWBY Project wants to use the Anime as a separate series. Addressing more to this audience. So he will make new material where the four protagonists will live new moments together, and also have a greater development in the 4 characters than in the original series. -Many comedy moments have been removed on purpose as the RWBY Project intends to rewrite the first 3 seasons with a more serious tone.
Gonna be honest the anime added some cool stuff to the choreography but completely messed up and the quirky interactions that defined Ruby as a character from the beginning. Instead they kinda threw all her character to the wayside making her appear bland almost normal teenage girl. Cool flashy animation doesn't make up for lack of narrative through character interaction and action esp when the anime is already way more relying heavily on exposition than the original.
It is a true testament to the sheer talent Monty had this early on that there is even a discussion to be had on which is better, a shoe string budget bare bones 3D animated fight scene by a group of people that had never done 3D animation before vs a full fledged anime production with experienced animators
both versions are wonderful! I think the original one brings up the feeling of something "home made" with a fan-made atmosphere, and also there is the nostalgic factor.
1:06 I like how the original does shifting diegesis. I think that the anime has better writing for this scene but the action can feel kind of hard to follow at times; in the original it's a lot easier to see her actions and is also animated to the music. Overall I think the OG has better action.
@@user-tq6fx7tl7e From 1:22 to 1:24 in the anime, you can't see anything at all, it's just an unreadable blur of colors. That's the most egregious example, but throughout the whole thing, Monty kind of dunks on them with how clear and concise his action is. Honestly, I'm not sure if this side-by-side is a good example of the strength of 2D animation when the 3D side is using such cheap models and so little budget and still looks 10x better.
@@SeventhSolar you must be legally blind because I see ruby kicking someone twirls her scythe to block an attack from behind then uses her sythe to knock him back and just a little fyi this type of fight animation style is very common look up any top fight animations this year and they have a similar feel to this so I don’t know what your problem is unless your a special snowflake 🥱
@@sandersGG I was curious if anything had changed, but no, good anime is still good anime. Any of the search results turn up great fights. I've been watching anime for a while, I've seen plenty of great fights, beautifully animated. Icequeen is still garbage. It's pretty, but garbage.
@@Oly876 It's not about the miniscule things, it's about how frustrating it is to watch the show. It's not enjoyable. Then people argue about that, so you get this.
I have yet to watch the anime, but I really love the og in this scene. I love the idea of Ruby still being young and new to her own semblance and with it she doesn’t use it, instead she uses her own weapon and weight to move around. While in the anime being the in the roses form makes it cooler to animate it makes it seem like she’s not really a young huntress in training but maybe an already developed/educated huntress who just happened to be out in the city. I also think the OG just shows more of Rubys character and personality compared to the anime, I might be wrong but that’s just what I got from it
But she's not a novice here, she was good enough to skip two grades to join a huntsman academy, and the point of this scene is to make that believable. The anime still shows plenty of her shortcomings.
I like the art of the anime, but at times the expressions on Ruby really seem to not grasp her charm & personality. She feels too "Serial experiments Lain" and not enough of Ruby's cheerful optimism, it's a bit unsettling. And there's little nuances of personality in the original like the talking to the shop keeper with the "you okay if I go after him?" that speaks to character build in side details on the flow, that the anime version lacks. These little nuance markers aren't there to 'filler' that can be cut, they're there as they speak to who Ruby is as character build & establishing of her personality even in heated moments like this, that shows us who she is even during difficult moments. These things define her, the anime feels rather soulless in that regard with how it seems to not grasp who Ruby is in nature. These aren't things that can be written off by this Ruby is more anger fueled/driven, because even in spite of that, she'd still put her humanity elements to the forefront, which helps speak to character drive of who she is even when guided by emotion. These things define her to her core. It's weird that a director or new writers don't seem to grasp that. But the hyper detail of moments is also nice. But also feels like key things are missing, like the speed up to her cloak spiral before the second robber rushes her, whereas the original had that as her means of knocking back the second robber into the fight outside. Feels weird on direction. Like some great visuals are there, but spatial awareness of why on the character build & how the scenes work isn't there.
Ok so... I’m not completely caught up in the whole RWBY lore (I just started watching it today and on top of that, I'm currently watching Black Clover) but here's what I think so far: I like how mature Ruby is in this anime. For someone who lost their mother, it's very unrealistic to be very optimistic and cheerful all the time. Losing a relative or someone close to you is an opportunity for a person to change and look at life differently, not stay the same. Ruby's character is a perfect example of unrealistic optimism. Plus, some people said that her personality got annoying since it was the same and on top of that, wanted her to have some kind of character development.
@@blossxma it's pretty much expected that anime protagonists will be unrealistically optimistic, that's kinda the point. And people grieve differently. Silly to say that her behavior is unnatural just because it isn't how you would be
@@Leto_0I never said that her behavior was unnatural. I’m just saying that I like how she's much more mature here than in the original. I understand that people grieve differently but at the same time, don’t let your emotions cloud and control your judgment. Also, it’s not expected that anime protagonists are unrealistically optimistic. That’s more expected for a shounen anime, not anime in general.
Here is the problem of anime, while there is the opportunity and material in this hand, it must be superior to a legendary production that uses a limited source material. And you're right about the first point, they changed the feeling my friend Ruby gave off. This is very sad.
Ruby's character and weapon intro goes hard!! When the weapon is fully opened, I noticed the scythe's blade is pointed upwards in the og and downwards in the anime. I like the blade upwards best. Og Ruby fight intro is better; it's the music, fits perfectly and voice acting.
"You were worth every cent, truly you were" sounds better in the original than the anime and maybe is because one is 3D and the other 2D but I think I prefer the original
To be honest I like the anime version more. not because I don't hate the original version. it's just that everything in the anime seems more smooth also I like the anime OST as well it gives me chills. especially the track that they used for this fight.
Agreed. My friends tried getting me into RWBY last year and I couldn’t really get into it. But after watching this new and improved 2D version, I couldn’t stop myself from cooming in my trousers. It looks so good and I’m honestly hyped for more. I watched quite a bit of the original RWBY before I dropped it and I honestly don’t care about the “cut content” I’ve been reading about. The show is looking really good imo
@@Juzzwald The 2D version is nice but saying it's the improved version is both subjective and a huge disservice to Monty imo. Personally I couldn't get past this episode in the anime as the faces seemed god awfult do me
The original really did feel like there was "weight" in Ruby's movements. I womder if it's harder to capture in the anime version considering what the animators are working on "spoils" the animators to the point their skills in animation aren't tested. 2D animation programs have advanced so far, to capture the perfect weight and speed in animation and animation programs have become more useful friendly. It might even be slightly harder as everything was tuned onnthe program for "smooth" motions, so they didn't bother trying to catch the exact same effect Oum had in the original. Aside from that, I think Oum worked with the limitation of the engine(?) he worked on to make sure it all looks deliberate as well, as I notice the 3D animation at times looked a bit clunky in non-fight scenes but nevertheless for something that was created in it's time, it was considered top quality 3D action made by an indie animator.
Seeing these comparisons actualy helps show a problem I have had in the main show with ruby's fight style and the way she holds her weapon in the IQ version and the main show post volume 3 crescent rose seems to have lost its weight she holds it differently blade up and behind her in the og and blade down and in front post volume 3 in the original you actually see how heavy the scythe is ruby isn't as much controlling the scythe as using its weight to launch herself into moves. When she holds it behind her it looks and feels like she is constantly moving at speed but when she holds it in front it feels like she is less confident in its use and wastes movement to get into a good position she is much more defensive and slower.
Glenda vs. Cinder still has to be one of my favourite V1 fights. Goes to show that talented fight choreography can shine even when it's not CQC combat. Kind of disappointed that they shortened it in IQ. They need to have more badass moments for the characters to shine.
Why smash through the window, in OG she slammed a guy through it vs in anime it’s to take the fight outside. I believe OG has the better excuse as it was just a consequence of throwing one opponent and Ruby used it to her advantage for a quicker get away. In anime she could of just rush the door before anyone could act with how heavily she relies on her semblance she would of left them baffled to respond before she was outside.
the anime is really gorgeous and sets somethings up better i think. but it does lack alot of the fun character moments, that really flesh them out, and the fight scenes feel a little bit on the tamer side, both have their strengths, though im hoping they'll bring some of the fun characterization back x3 and im sure the fights will only get better
Maybe I'm just biased or something, but I still love the OG the most. The music + the animation in Ruby's face + the animation of Crescent Rose + the weight of the action is my favorite! It'll always be a classic to me! But I really appreciate the beautiful art style of the anime!
@@theexecutioner5244 I dunno, Ruby in the original was looking for a fight. And if you’re significantly stronger than your opponents why wouldn’t you crack a smile?
@@falcon1378 funny enough, it feels like Yang is the more goofy one in combat with the anime. Well, even more than usual. And while you aren't wrong with abusing the weak, she was also in the middle of a good read. Peace was never an option.
I like the anime because Ruby feels like that she is relying more on her semblance than her own skills as she did in the original because the original feels like that she is a lot better than she is now in the show.
The Anime is great but the one issue was how she twirled the Scythe around and then slams it to the ground. The part with slamming to the ground was great it's the half second before where she swing it over her shoulder and then slam it forward making the scythe feel light weight and doesn't give that impact the necessary power.
There are two kinds of people. People who think that the anime is beautiful and people who loved RWBY for more than it's appearance. The anime feels...I dunno, heartless. The amateur nature of Monty's work is something that could never be captured on purpose. The framing, character balance, intentions, Say what you will about him. That he "only animated cool fight scenes and was terrible at doing anything else." But that first few seasons were labors of love through and through. I'm not disregarding the animators on this, nor anyone who worked on the projects after but this looks like every other anime of it's kind. Not bad, but far from standing out.
One thing that I'm disappointed with the anime for cutting/changing: When Torchwick shoots at Ruby (1:46), the original has Ruby quickly shoot the ground, throwing herself over the shot and dodging it. The blast hits the ground where she was standing. The anime simplifies this to having the shot explode in front of Ruby and it becomes a smokebomb.
In comparing the glasses adjustment at 3:01 I notice that Glynda is looking sidelong past her glasses anyway. So clearly her glasses are just a style choice since she's fighting without using them.
I will forever prefer the OG instead of the anime. Trust me I won’t be the only guy who will say they would’ve not loved not see the pals and enemies of team RWBY into anime; but I just prefer the original not only because of Nostalgic, but it’s Ruby Rose herself; 1:01 ; Look at this scene where she looks at the thieves when she’s outside of the store after breaking the glass window. On the OG I see a more confident Ruby aware of what’s going on and she’s confident that these men are just gonna be a drag to her compared to her ability; now the anime you see a more serious Ruby when she stares down; I dislike the fact that she looks serious in the anime because you gotta remind yourself that Ruby is indeed still a teenager and not a full fledge early adult like Blake, Weiss or Yang (her older sister). So the fact that she looks over confident in her ability I feel still brings out that child like attitude which works cause when you see her at Beacon that’s how she is, a still developing mid teenager now with all these early adults becoming hunters and huntresses.
The second i saw this was being made by shaft i knew its gonna kick ass Altough outside of fights its easy to see where the corners were cut but honestly its still a much better viewing experience than the original imo. My main problem with the original has always been how uncanny the cg looked (well some of it is pretty iffy in the anime too) but i loved the story itself so i'm extremely happy right now.
What modern (post Monty, rip the legendy) RWBY fails to grasp is that Monty made RWBY to make the SICKEST fights ever to exist, and then built a rickety plot around it. His choreography was so good he could make stick figures look epic, and it's the same reason stick figure animators make amazing fights. Sure the anime looks fantastic, but Monty made you believe the incredibly broken physics of the world just made sense to this series.
@@maellesueur5859 I ripped my heart ages ago, I honestly stopped caring about the main show after season 8. After seeing this scene and the anime in general it honestly made me remember why I used to love the series in the first place. The song also feels more grand and mystical by comparison, whereas the original, after watching the anime version, just feels lesser by comparison and the music now feels allot more generic in the original.
@sb555 Understandable personally i think it's a lot because of the nostalgia but i can't like the fact that they changed the soundtrack i known its not a remake but i think the music and the choregraphy do a lots of effects for the original that i can't find in the anime
I've never watched either, but the original Red Rose seemed to be so much more human rather than the generic excitable anime character. Her eyes were more expressive too, if you don't count the brows and facial expressions
Honestly, I think the original is better, just because you don't need as many cuts for fight scenes. Monty's fight scenes always felt like they could really be happening in real time, and that just doesn't apply to the anime.
The anime did a good job, but Monty's work always deserve the highest praise for me. From the expressions, the dialogue to the heavy feel of Crescent Rose, it all shows how Ruby is not a naive girl but a rather confident fighter
The anime adaptation looks sick, the movement is really good, but there’s just something about the original. The weight, the momentum, the physics that went into it. I just don’t think it can be topped
The anime may be flashier, but the original is more thought out and better choreographed. The amount of detail and thought put into the character's movements and poses in the original is exceptional.
I like how weighted the scythe feels in the original. How the weight needs to be guided but not fully controlled when spinning it. When she spun it above her head in the anime, it didn't look or feel all that cool to me.
Haven't watched it yet, but it seems to be for a more serious broad audience than the original. There were some moments that felt very roosterteets. I notice that less here.
honestly, the helicopter scene is much better in the original. cool that the anime is being true to the original in the animation, with the shakiness in the movement of the characters and all.
That they replaced "This Will Be the Day" killed it for me. I don't get. I can't even come close to the same feeling as then I watch the original, so sad. Also, I think that they missed some importent scenes to show Rubys character. But the animation is a lot better. Obviously the OG is from 8 years ago with lower budget.... Why can't they make a remastered version with no cuts -_-
I think Ruby's part actually has both versions on equal footing. Original is amazing of course, and the anime version has a different feel but managed to achieve the same hype by playing to 2D's strengths and the new soundtrack. The flow is good, the bodies have momentum and weight, and style fits Ruby... sadly it only lasts 10 seconds and then the anime becomes too slow again. It was probably hard to animate those few seconds to that level
Even though the original doesn't have as much quality, it's definitely funnier and more go-with-the-flow than the anime's more high quality and badass scenes
The original fight was better but Rubys little pose with crescent rose was very well animated in IQ and really broken in the og. Which just shows how awesome monty was even with the jankey software.
Pretty huge minor thing: this was not the White Fang, but Junior's gang (Yang beat them up in the Yellow trailer) (Not sure if they have a specific name too or not)
Atleast the anime doesn't look like fucking animal crossing. I just couldn't watch the original because of the animation, I'm gonna start watching it now
I over all love how the anime looks it’s not perfect but has amazing potential for being a remastered version of the show that could possibly fix a lot of the stupid stuff within the show so I hope they continue the anime
The original had more character with everyone showing more emotions and not just busting through everything like human tanks, but this still looks really cool
@@NeoZeta It’s not hard to believe Personally I think the original was stiff, but stiff in video game standards, where they can still show a lot of personality. The anime’s stiffness though doesn’t tell me anything up until it randomly decides to have a bunch of flowy elements that don’t match with the impact
Ngl I prefer the anime fight scene more but I wish they didn't rely on Ruby's semblance as much.. It showed in the original that she wasn't as capable and had a huge amount of room for growth/training, whereas in the anime fight she seems more op.

It seems to be how they introduce what a semblance is and how hers in particular works
Yeah the combo move on original is definitely better. Take example of the bird fight, there's a lot of missing combo 🥲

All in all, while not exactly the best choice (Ruby REALLY needs to learn hand to hand or carry a backup weapon for just such a problem) breaking the window and forcing the fight outside was the best call she could have made.
Think* not thing
The shopkeeper clearly wasn't hurt at all tho. xD
The comedic gags and timing are definitely missing but everything that was cut was worth it for how much better that cigar being crushed is animated.
Eh, the sfx of the Scythe hitting the ground in the anime alone makes it all worth it. More... metallic?

While 'This Will Be the Day' cuts out in the original, having 'Capabilities Unseen' playing in the actual fight just elevates both versions to a whole new level.
That's my one gripe with the original and made the anime version for me tbh, still like both tho.
Been searching for that song for a while. Thank you.
I like capabilities unseen for the fight, but I really wish they added the original soundtrack at some point in the show
@@DrNyow oh yea 100%
That's something the later volumes have done as well. Ruby twirls her scythe around like it's made out of plastic.
The anime does a good job animating the hands in the twirl, but watch the original in slow motion. Complex movement that holds up at any speed.
"Okay... Get her." Roman out here commanding thugs across universes
And I fear I won't get to witness another fight animator like Monty in my lifetime :(
Yeah there is a reason it felt so real and so good, and almost not like an anime lol. But I think your right, we probably won't see another person of Monty's level. It's makes me cry );
@@DrNyow I've seen some fans coming up to stand with him, not in his place but definitely with more understanding than the average fan. It's a reminder that while he may be gone, Monty left a legacy that will last much longer.
Yea the OG was better. You just can't see it. You really have to tilt your head, close one eye, be in denial and then cope.
@@toby2real cope this ratio
the shaft one looks a lot better... at least to me
Somewhere out there lies a timeline where Monty was okay, continued RWBY with his original crew with what probably would've been a different storyline almost entirely, improved his unique craft, and eventually got to work with animators of Studio Shaft (who did Black Rock Shooter which inspired Monty and made Ice Queendom), and take his craft to an even higher level, and potentially even make RWBY a revolutionary series in animation.
Especialy considering that she probably was there because she was geting something for her academy, and yang had graduated and their dad lived in the woods.
ah, now I know what's felt missing from the anime scene...it's the part when Ruby turns off the music!
There was also the little “oh” she said after the robber said he was robbing her.
Yeah, that threw me too. Crashing through the window by herself just seems pointless.
@@SynchronizorVideos I think her jumping out of the store is so that the victim in it would be the window and the table (On both versions) I think.
She jumped through the window to not put the store owner in danger and damage his store even further.
@@felwinter7538 So why not just use the door if she's not tangled up with an opponent like in the original?
@@SynchronizorVideos Yeah bruh, just causally walk/run to the door in front of armed goons. Obviously she's gonna use her semblance to get out of there asap lol. Also, they need her to use her semblance as much as possible in this scene for story purposes.
You can't beat Monty but the animator who animated ruby's fight did and excellent job
Yeah it's an amazing display of her character that she designed an edgy killing machine but is too nice to really use it
its a weapon designed to take down grimm the size of small buildings, so yeah it would probably be an absolute mess if she had the intent to kill.
the animation of the fight scene is improved in the anime (Vol 1 left a loft to be desired graphically), but the anime seems to have changed Ruby's character.
Yeah, she's got this death-robot face on in IG that feels way out of character.
I noticed that too! I really like og Ruby for that, especially in that scene. The anime Ruby doesn't have many expressions
My guess is they're going to go in a different direction from the original by introducing a new plot. Because I'm sure that whole Nightmare Grimmm thingand that dreamcatcher mage character was never in the original. So they have to quicken the pace to get to it.
The reason why the anime is different from OG seems to be these:
-It has been decided to remove the prominence of the original series on Ruby.
It's probably because Tai didn't shut down after summer rose in this version, so Yang didn't pamper her
Gonna be honest the anime added some cool stuff to the choreography but completely messed up and the quirky interactions that defined Ruby as a character from the beginning. Instead they kinda threw all her character to the wayside making her appear bland almost normal teenage girl. Cool flashy animation doesn't make up for lack of narrative through character interaction and action esp when the anime is already way more relying heavily on exposition than the original.
Yeah I mean I like the anime but I still will always prefer the original Monty’s rooster teeth version.
What's hard to follow in the anime...? Frames aren't glitchy and the choreography isn't confusingly complex either.

@@Krikenemp18 then the original emphasizes her skill even more by not using her semblance and holding her own lol
@@reeceenglish5201 Agree
I agree with this alot especially the shopkeeper part and im just randomly watching this video nowhere and barely know much about rwby
Ok so... I’m not completely caught up in the whole RWBY lore (I just started watching it today and on top of that, I'm currently watching Black Clover) but here's what I think so far:
I like how mature Ruby is in this anime.
I think its the voice. In the Eng Torchwick genuinely sounded disappointed.
@@umbranassassin8372 tbh after the first few episodes this show fumbled hard. I withdraw this statement i made a year ago lmao
Finally. Someone who agrees on the iconic cookie scene.
This makes me want to watch both since I feel like the original seems more goofy and fun while the anime seems more cool with the animations
Glenda vs. Cinder still has to be one of my favourite V1 fights. Goes to show that talented fight choreography can shine even when it's not CQC combat. Kind of disappointed that they shortened it in IQ. They need to have more badass moments for the characters to shine.
We all know the only reason Merc did this scene was for Glynda
Alright, I admit it, you guys caught me. 😆
The fight scenes in the anime are very smooth and nice, also more colourful and graphic like other anime.
1 minute into this video and I already love this character I've never gotten to know, wow
Maybe I'm just biased or something, but I still love the OG the most. The music + the animation in Ruby's face + the animation of Crescent Rose + the weight of the action is my favorite! It'll always be a classic to me! But I really appreciate the beautiful art style of the anime!

I enjoyed the anime but I will never forget Monty's masterpiece
The Anime is great but the one issue was how she twirled the Scythe around and then slams it to the ground. The part with slamming to the ground was great it's the half second before where she swing it over her shoulder and then slam it forward making the scythe feel light weight and doesn't give that impact the necessary power.
The og looks like a good fan animation
It seems shaft is making this a more serious version of Ruby
3:41 It's a pity that this joke with cookies is not in the anime
It has been years since I started watching the show and now I look on TH-cam and they made it also a anime... I have missed a lot but nice 👍🏻
One thing that I'm disappointed with the anime for cutting/changing:
When Torchwick shoots at Ruby (1:46), the original has Ruby quickly shoot the ground, throwing herself over the shot and dodging it.
Never heard of this anime in my life but it looks sick
What modern (post Monty, rip the legendy) RWBY fails to grasp is that Monty made RWBY to make the SICKEST fights ever to exist, and then built a rickety plot around it. His choreography was so good he could make stick figures look epic, and it's the same reason stick figure animators make amazing fights.
Sure the anime looks fantastic, but Monty made you believe the incredibly broken physics of the world just made sense to this series.
the original is still the best because this was Monty's masterpiece before he passed away
The original is Legendary, but I wouldn't mind seeing more seasons of the anime... one can only hope
I prefer the anime version, mainly because i actually prefer the song over the original.

You cant really compete with Monty in terms of fight choreography, but the new version is aight.
I've never watched either, but the original Red Rose seemed to be so much more human rather than the generic excitable anime character. Her eyes were more expressive too, if you don't count the brows and facial expressions
This is the only fight I think was better in the anime, at least RWBY's part in it. That said she didn't eat the cookies 0/10 for the anime.
Finally, I know why this anime script sometimes goes wrong, because the original script goes wrong.

This adaptation completely went under my radar. What the heck? And I believe Ruby is the second scythe user Saori Hayami has voiced so far.
in retrospect knowing how volatile Dust is, starting a fight in and around the Dust store was a monumentally bad idea.
Ah this comparison of the first beginning of rwby I really like the original better the anime is pretty good
I think Ruby's part actually has both versions on equal footing.
It's no contest. This comparison spits on Monty's grave.
Why at 2:20 was "Persistent" AFTER he got on the plane and was about to throw the dust?
Pretty huge minor thing: this was not the White Fang, but Junior's gang (Yang beat them up in the Yellow trailer) (Not sure if they have a specific name too or not)
Well there goes the studio's entire animation budget.
Ngl capabilities unseen elevates the new one so much
0:51 funny window scene. Loved it
Atleast the anime doesn't look like fucking animal crossing. I just couldn't watch the original because of the animation, I'm gonna start watching it now
I over all love how the anime looks it’s not perfect but has amazing potential for being a remastered version of the show that could possibly fix a lot of the stupid stuff within the show so I hope they continue the anime
Anime looks nice, but Monty's fight choreography is just insane.
The original had more character with everyone showing more emotions and not just busting through everything like human tanks, but this still looks really cool
Yeah anime really lacks on emotion part
lol what? you got to be kidding...

It’s not hard to believe
Personally I think the original was stiff, but stiff in video game standards, where they can still show a lot of personality.

Guys by not eating the cookies she already split the timeline into an alternate route where certain characters live
Huh. In the anime Roman turns around to look at her before getting on the airship, but in the original he doesn't even bother turning around until he's throwing the dust crystal.
most of this anime budget goes to this scene lol
in the anime they forget to show how caring and calm women can be and should be when in intense situations
For anyone who wants to see the English version with original soundtrack check my video👍 I decided to put it together cause why not lol
It was an amazing edit!
@@mercuryblack Thanks Mercury😁👍 I was happy with the end result!
The anime adds a lot of extra stuff
Roman's Comment about Semblances
Ruby spinning her Scythe more in the anime
And also, Yang and Tai actually witness part of Ruby's fight against Roman
