He dedicated himself to boogie woogie at an early age, although he didn't own a piano. So how did he practice? He played in pubs (although under-age) until he was thrown out or someone better took over. He also played in schools while the school cleaners were doing their business .. until he was yet again thrown out, because they wanted to go home after they'd done their work. He didn't actually own his own piano until well into his early 20s.
