Manipur: Miscreants burn down five houses in Imphal

- In a fresh case of arson in Manipur, around five abandoned houses were burnt down by unidentified miscreants at New Lambulane locality in Imphal. The incident occurred at around 2:30 pm on Sunday, after which firemen rushed to the spot and put off the blaze and the area was cordoned off. Soon after the incident, people gathered in the area and demanded state and central forces deployed in the locality to allow them to enter the area. Security forces also fired a few rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Later a scuffle broke out between police and public.
Irate protestors alleged that the burning down of houses was executed following a preconceived plan to disrupt peace in Imphal city. It may be mentioned that the New Lambulane area consists of residents from both Kuki and Meitei communities, thus, security forces are deployed round the clock to prevent any untoward incident.

I am very close to the place. There are around 1000 kuki in the locality. They have been facing a shortage of foods and amenities. They gutted 4 houses themselves and 1 meitei house. So, this is not some meitei miscreants burning.
