- Join me every Friday as I learn about a new Kpop group. Every four weeks, I will explore one group to get to know their personalities, songs and to see if anyone can cause an upset to my top 5 kpop groups. Week 1 of Dean and Mamamoo!!
I am going in blind and super excited because this is my first girl group!!! Learning new names and faces; this is going to be tough but I am ready!! The RnB Prince of Asia and will I finally find a girl group to listen to; watch and see.

Best kpop female group. These women are top tier in kpop. Vocal Queens. I cannot wait till May 24th to see them in Ft. Worth.

Mamamoo has always released their MV's both with 1theK or Stone and the RBW official version. The early Stone ones never have Subtitles and you can find the fully subtitled RBW ones on Mamamoo Official channel. The other result of this is often the RBW MV has much lower view counts. Sometimes the Performance video has more views than the MV on Mamamoo's channel. The first time I heard of Dean and the song Instagram was watching Queendom where it was covered in the competition.
Perfect time to get into Mamamoo since they're doing a world tour for the first time in their career and coming to the US soon. Maybe I'll see you at the show in NY. :) Btw, you might want to get tix as soon as they're available at the end of the month because MMM concerts tend to sell out immediately.
Any moomoo (MMM fan) will tell you Mamamoo is best when they're live because of their amazing, always live vocals (they can't lip sync to save their lives), riveting stage presence and bff team chemistry. Moomoos usually advise new fans to check out two live samplers - their appearance on the Dingo Killing Voice series where they performed a medley of songs from throughout their career up until the vid was filmed in 2020, and the Immortal Songs Medley, which includes some of the covers of classic (immortal) Korean songs they performed on the singing competition tv show Immortal Songs 2. The Immortal Songs Medley was filmed at a MMM concert in 2017.
Queendom was a 2019 female competition tv show between 5 groups and a solo artist. The guide showed a snippet of their 60's soul & gospel style song I Miss You on Queendom and I'd highly recommend it since you like Toni Braxton. Besides I Miss You their main vocal masterpieces in a recording studio include Paint Me and Where Are We Now. You can hear MMM venture into Braxton's general vicinity in their solo ballads. Examples include Solar's Whitney cover and her covers of Korean ballads in her Solar Emotion series, Hwasa's LMM and Be Calm, and Wheein's Goodbye and Butterfly (which includes a feature by well known k-r&b singer G Soul) and her OST ballads for kdramas such as With My Tears and Shine on You.
Another woman you might want to check out is Yoon Mirae, who's a Korean/African American singer/rapper and is probably the most prominent female k-hip hop artist. My favorite songs by her are Black Happiness, Kawi Bawi Bo and Baby Bye Bye. Wheein used to say her favorite song is Baby Bye Bye and there are a couple of behind the scenes vids on MMM-TV that capture Wheein doing the main rap verse. There's no MV for Yoon Mirae's original recording of Baby Bye Bye but you can find an audio-only vid under her old stage name T (or Tasha - her birth name is Natasha Reid). Yoon Mirae is married to Tiger JK, who's often called the godfather of Korean hip hop, and they led a group called MFBTY (My Fandom is Better Than Yours lol) for a long time.

Woah glad you have already found the top tier girl group. I am with you when you said you don't like those high tone cutie pitch voice... Mamamoo is for you! They are known as the Vocal Queens of Kpop and master of stage because their live is always better than studio recorded ver.
You might want to watch Hip, Aya, Egotistic, Wind Flower for their MVs. For the live vocals, their Mamamoo Killing Voice is a must watch 😊

Bashing how people’s voices are is so sad. I have one of those high voices. People are how they are. You can say you like a deeper tone without putting down other people
Here is a translation of the spoken part in the middle of "Mr. Ambiguous": The "producer" Baek Z Joung (she is a well known solo singer in South Korea) scolds the group in front of everybody, which would be a nightmare, if you are just shooting the video for your debut. But it was just a prank (a cruel one in my opinion, it didn't look as if they knew about it):

mamamoo youll love Dream because 1/ theyre more a mature woman vibe 2/vocals (dont do lip sync) 3/ project swag, woman empowerment and are crazily funny personalities 4/ all have successful solo careers 4/ were built by ceo more as 4 artist in mind then typical kpop cutesy vibe..please do a deep dive the ahve hugh discography since 2014 and versatile in all genres

Mamamoo is a great start for getting into Girl Groups, but Mamamoo is SO good that they’ll basically spoil you, as there is literally no other group like them.
The best group, Mamamoo!! In my opinion of course. I can't like other groups like a like them, they are just fenomenal!!
Mamamoo's sub-unit Mamamoo+ (Solar & Moonbyul) just dropped a new MV called 'Chico Malo' !! They'll have a comeback next week :D

You should check out Big Mama and their killing voice. They’re a group from back in the day and their vocals are insane. One of the members can reach notes lower than Moonbyul. Definitely check out their killing voice.
