      That was top shelf wiring but not really useful information for me. I live in Canada and we have the more dangerous plug type and our wires come pre-molded and we have the White, black and mostly bare copper for earth. We are not supposed to re-wire anything and it has to be left to electricians technically (though I have re-wired some parts of a house alongside my father) but electrical code handbooks can be purchased at the local hardware store and the homeowner can as I last understood can do wiring as well.

      @@marhawkman303Yeah it is the same colour coding for Canada and the US. There might be slight differences in the code depending on which province (or in your case state) that you are living in. I found it fun as I have been watching UK electricians and others Tech TH-camrs that post electrical projects (Channels are bigclive.com, Julian Ilet, and thomas nagy). I was just stating that this was not as useful for a North American Audience but still funny as hell to watch.

    We covered how to wire a plug in GCSE Physics class (not to mention my Dad teaching me years before). I realise most appliances come with pre-wired plugs now so we don't necessarily need it these days but it feels weird to me that this knowledge is no longer universal.

    Wait. Luke doesn't know how to wire a plug? Why?
    *10 seconds later*
    What the hell is that plug? It has a fuse?!

    • @youkofoxy
      @youkofoxy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      UK plug, isn't that bad.
      You should see a XLR connector in a hot-cold configuration.
      I don't have the slightest idea of how to do it.
      P.S.: silly me, forgot that there a 3 pin version, I was talking about the 5 pin one, that also has phantom power.

    • @wbfaulk
      @wbfaulk ปีที่แล้ว

      UK plugs have fuses in them because they were developed in conjunction with a wiring system that reduced the amount of wire required in a home, but which did not allow whole-circuit protection to be rated low enough to protect individual appliances. So fuses were added to the plugs themselves in order to provide sufficient protection for the appliances (and the cords) that they were attached to.

    In all my experience with electricity and electronics, the one thing I've learned to be a universal truth is that you MUST keep the magic smoke, INSIDE the circuits. The magic smoke makes the whole thing work. If you let it out it stops working.

    Wiring plugs must be a generational thing. Before 1992 shops didn’t have to include plugs on electrical items so you had to buy the plug separately and wire it yourself.

    I love how little self-control Luke and Mike have when they’re together. Usually one of the others will reign in some of their explosive gameplay styles, but when it’s just them:
    Luke: Mike, I’m going to do a crazy thing.
    Mike: Good plan, good plan. But also let’s add more explosions.
    Luke: Great idea!

    Well done to Luke! I only learned by studying plugs, mostly in the dark after blowing a fuse. I've had some interesting encounters with electricity, I trained to work backstage in the theatre. Theatres need a shitload of power, and they have three times the amount of electricity, which is why I don't do anything whatsoever to mess about with electricity. It scared the bejesus out of me hearing the hum of the three boards being used by a play in full flow. Anyway, rewiring is not easy and I'm very impressed by his ability to work out how to do this.

    Well done on rewiring a plug Luke. Now ask Mike what a cars electrics look like. Start with the fuse box and then look at the wiring harness. That's it! Luke, your Xmas challenge this year is to change the oil and spark plugs in Mike's car. He won't mind if you make a mistake, so no pressure.

    I'm a simple person, I remember being taught the wires in UK plugs being the R in Brown for right, and the L in Blue for left. So what's left goes in the middle!!!
    My philosophy is a mix of many, I tend to like to see a bigger picture than narrow down to one specific. I don't like to limit myself to one idea, I like to be open minded.

    The plug bit was amusing to me as I am a robotic engineer in the US. I do now how to put together a European field attachable plug. One thing I completely forgot is that brown is hot and blue is not on your AC lines as well. US actually is using Brown and Blue for +24VDC and 0VDC reference on sensor lines in robotics. It is harder to get the US color code with sensors.

    My personal life philosophy, that quite accurately describes my life so far, i call negativism - if anything can go wrong it will and be worst then you think. If by any chanse it does not, then it is just building the height to drop you with even more power to the ground, so you shatter to even more pieces. Life sucks and you need to learn to live with it, and try to be happy in the rare moments when the bad luck is just taking its time to bite you hard later. And no, it is not depresing, just realistic.
    Anyway great show as always, a happy moment in the eye of the storm, just before the winds strike again :)
